Renault Mégane E-Tech: its price soon revised down with the arrival of the scenic

Resolutely modern, the interior of the new megane e-tech hinders an unprecedented presentation. This consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation supplemented by a large touch screen. Placed in a vertical position, it is slightly oriented towards the driver.

The price war waged by Tesla and MG weighs on sales of the megane e-tech

Electric, modern and high-end, the megane e-tech embodies Renault’s new strategy. Unfortunately, barely a year after its launch, the compact sales are at the lowest. Does the Renaulution have lead in the wing ?

Luca de Meo has no shortage of ideas for Renault. The new boss of the French group wishes to shoot the diamond upwards, selling more expensive vehicles to improve its margins. Renault intends in particular to position itself as “Leader of ecological transition” and place technology at the heart of its vehicles.

A rebirth not as frank as planned for the megane

The first vehicle to respond to this new strategy is the 100 % electric mega e-tech. Launched last year, it inaugurates at Renault a new visual identity and a new logo, the platform dedicated to CMF-EV electric cars and the Openr Link multimedia system based on Android Automotive Automotive.

Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric EV60 220 CH Techno: Renaulution Française

After the ZOE, the fluence and the Twingo, here is the Megane E-Tech Electric, the fourth 100 % electric vehicle of Renault. Proposed in 40.

Despite this, “The Megane does not take off”, explains the CGT at the Renault factory in Douai, where the electric e-tech megane is assembled (source: Capital)). Worse, its sales are still falling in July, with only 998 registrations in VP version, according to data from the automotive platform (PFA), against 1937 in July 2022. The model thus leaves the top 10 best -selling cars in France last month.

Race assessment, from January to July 2023, the Megane e-tech has passed at 10,486 copies in France, against 8127 for the thermal Mégane IV, however aging. Indeed, Renault wished to keep it in the catalog temporarily, leaving the two models and the different strategies to cohabit they embody. Dedicated to replacing the old megane, the new electric e-tech version is therefore struggling to attract customers.

A technically successful mega, but not competitive

However, the megane e-tech is far from a bad car. On the contrary, even: it benefits from excellent road behavior and its new infotainment system is very successful.

We could be tempted to explain the relative commercial failure of the megane e-tech by invoking the state of the electric car market, but to no avail. In the first seven months of 2023, electric cars represented 15 % of registrations and 13 % last month (12 % in July 2022). The Tesla Model also manages to rise to 9th place of the best -selling cars in France from January to July, far ahead of the Megane.

No, if sales of the megane e-tech do not take off, it is above all because its prices are not competitive enough. “It’s a good car with real technological advances. But concern is the price war waged by Tesla and MG ”, explains Laurent Giblot, industrial designer and elected CGT at the Villiers-Saint-Frédéric (Yvelines) engineering center (Yvelines).

The French compact starts at € 33,000 (ecological bonus of € 5,000 deduced) in entry -level version Equilibre EV40, with a 130 hp engine and a WLTP autonomy of only 300 km. For the EV60 version with a 220 hp engine, which increases the autonomy at 450 km, it takes from € 39,500 (techno finish and bonus deducted). As a comparison, the Tesla Model 3 is now offered from only € 36,990 (Propulsion version and deduces bonuses), while the American is larger, more efficient and with a 491 km WLTP autonomy.

MG also draws prices down with its new electric compact MG4, in direct competition with the megane. Its sales have exceeded those of the megane e-tech in France since May 2023. It is sold bonus deducted from only € 24,990 in 51 kWh version, for a range of 350 km, € 28,990 in a 64 kWh version, for a range of 450 km, and € 34,490 in a 77 kWh version, with a 520 km radius of action.

Renault Mégane E-Tech: its price soon revised down with the arrival of the scenic ?

The new electric e-tech scenic should be launched at less than € 40,000 at entry-level level. To maintain pricing consistency with the electric version of the Megane, the latter could see its price drop.

As we know, the mega e-tech struggles to compete with the MG4 and the Tesla Model 3 because of its not really competitive prices. However, the situation could change quickly.

On the one hand, the amount of the ecological bonus currently set at € 5,000 (€ 7,000 for households whose reference tax income per share is less than or equal to € 14,089) to which it is eligible should increase in 2024, and this aid should be withdrawn from electric cars produced in China, which is the case with its main rivals.

An entry -level scenic at less than € 40,000

On the other hand, Renault announced to our colleagues in self -actu.com that the new scenic e-tech, which will be launched at the beginning of 2024, will be entitled to an entry-level version whose price “will start with a 3” (Luca de Meo, the boss of the Renault group, made this same announcement at the microphone of RTL). It should resume the 60 kWh battery of the Mégane EV60, which starts at € 42,000 (€ 37,000 with the current bonus deduced).

Renault Scenic E-Tech: 620 km of autonomy for the new electric SUV

The Renault Scénic is now an electric SUV ! It takes up the CMF-EV platform of the megane e-tech, but announces autonomy Allan.

To maintain consistency in its range and keep a sufficient price difference with the scenic, larger, it would therefore be logical that Renault revives the price of its megane down. The latter, whose price had increased significantly since its launch due to an increase in its production costs, could therefore find a more accessible price.
