The Porsche Macan Electric is almost ready, here are the images

Long hidden under thick camouflage, the first electric SUV of Porsche is finally revealed in a different day. The tarpaulins have lightened and the concealment artifices blurred. The opportunity for us to discover the profile and some details at the front level which seems particularly to be inspired by the work carried out on the Taycan. Logic, since the electric family should inherit the same codes at Porsche. The pavilion leak to the stern remains a characteristic of this Macan. Obviously, the Macan will not be the only one to make the transition: Porsche is preparing a large electric SUV on the Cayenne segment. But it will arrive later.

Porsche has been testing the Macan’s electric version on the roads for almost two years and this process will finally reach its final point with the official and complete presentation of the vehicle next year.

However, it is not necessary to wait for Porsche to lift the veil on its entirely electric SUV to discover its design: a new series of photos shows a prototype of the model whose exterior is practically not camouflaged.

It is by far our best overview of the Macan EV to date and it reveals the front shield with headlights similar to those of the Taycan. Black adhesive tape covers small parts of the optical blocks, but other than that, the front is practically not camouflaged. The lower part of the shield has a bumper of trapezoidal shape whose drawing extends in the lower diffuser of the bumper. Above, in both corners of the bumper, there is a pair of additional lights which seem to have a flashing function.

At the rear, a little more black ribbon covers the rear lights, which seem to be connected by a LED bar in the middle. The bumper is also covered with black camouflage, but the false exhaust outlets located under the bumper have disappeared. Some photos clearly show rear wheels oriented in the direction opposite to that of the front wheels.

Under the body, the Macan EV shares its platform with an electric SUV of similar size of Audi. In its most powerful version, the electric version of the Macan will have a power of 603 horsepower and an instant torque of more than 1000 Nm, coming from a configuration at two engines. If you are not a fan of electric porsche, you will probably be happy to learn that the Macan with thermal engine will remain in place longer than expected.

It is an understatement to say that the SUVs wear Porsche today. It is not the most sporting 911, the Cayman GT4 RS and other more radical models which allow Porsche to make the sales figures fattened each year spectacular, and above all to exceed 300,000 annual deliveries. No, the one that allows all this is above all the Macan. A crucial model for the brand of Zuffenhausen, aware that it cannot remain eternally with a combustion engine under the hood (unless summary fuels are produced in astronomical quantities, but we are still far away). This is where the electric macan therefore comes in, an unprecedented offer and above all a cousin of the Audi Q6 e-tron also designed on the PPE platform.

The launch of the electric Macan will be in 2024 in Europe. And he will not replace the current Macan since the two will coexist in the catalog, for a few more years. Time, at least, to allow Porsche to make the relay passage without (too) losing sales volumes, since combustion engines remain the biggest providers of recipes.

The future electric macan expected for 2024

Here are new photos of the second SUV from Porsche. These allow us to clearly identify the brand’s choices concerning its Macan, which should be presented next year.

Porsche defends its electrical strategy

If you are a faithful reader of the magazine, you may have already discovered the words of Marc Meurer, president of Porsche France and Fayçal Elasri, Press Relations Manager, in No. 385 available on newsstands. After the arrival of the Taycan in 2019 as a 100% electric car, the Macan will be the second model in the range to take this path. Will follow the 718 models, then will then appear new electrified cars. That enthusiasts reassure themselves, as long as it is possible, the manufacturer of Stuttgart will keep the thermal engine for the 911.

A marketing planned in 2024 for the new Macan

Porsche has become a little delay in the marketing of the future Macan. Initially planned for 2023, the 100% electric SUV would face development problems related to software. The president of Porsche France also claims that the success of the thermal macan worldwide has rejected the arrival of the electric SUV. It should therefore be presented in 2024 to the general public before making its appearance in Porsche centers in the following months. Thermal should not be completely excluded on this date. The different Macan should probably cohabit a few months in concessions before giving way to the 100% electric. In the meantime, the tests multiply with fewer and fewer camouflages, allowing us to observe the interior as well as the exterior of the Macan.

Place in digital inside the cabin

On the previous images that we had presented to you, the interior of the Macan was mainly camouflaged. This time, there is no doubt. The meters display will be digital and the central touch screen will always be present in the center of the dashboard. As with the new Cayenne, the inspiration comes from the Taycan. We see there a will of the brand to harmonize the whole of electric range. The steering wheel of the future Macan takes up that of the Taycan and the sport chrono pack should make it possible to optimize the performance of this future electric SUV.

An electric SUV that does not skimp on the power

Porsche does not lose its character as a sporty, despite the electric motorization. According to our current information, the Macan should be launched with a 100 kWh capacity battery benefiting from a voltage of 800 V (divided into two blocks of 400 V each) and accepting a higher charge power to the 270 kW that La Taycan. Thus, in the event of connection to a 400 V terminal, the two units can be recharged parallel, allowing time to save. Porsche states that in the best conditions, 25 minutes will be enough to go from 5 to 80%.

The electric motor is expected to release more than 610 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. For comparison, the current entry -level Taycan has 408 hp and the most powerful 761 hp. The thermal macan browse between 265 hp and 440 hp. This power may seem impressive for the electric macan and yet it would be necessary to compensate for the weight of more than 2 tonnes of the SUV.

New lines for the future electric Macan

We will not surprise you by telling you that the lines of the new SUV will evolve. Despite its imposing camouflage, we can see that the new headlights will be inspired by those of the Taycan and Porsche seems to integrate a novelty with the presence of headlights in the shield before. But it is not unlikely that the manufacturer seeks to deceive us. Anyway, the front of the future Macan should be widely redesigned, with lines and a front shield that divergent from the current range. At the back will probably be a mobile fin on the tailgate and a large light bar.
