Aesthetically, the large 20 -inch rims, 18 “in series, gives a certain build to the car. We tell you everything about the new Renault Mégane Electric !

There will ultimately not spent a year between the presentation of the first concept in October 2020 and the serial car. Renault officially presents the new Megane E-Tech Electric at the IAA Mobility Munich 2021 fair, which opens to the press this Monday, September 6.

If the model has nothing to do with the previous generations of Mégane, it is however extremely close to the concept of a year ago, but also of the camouflaged prototype which appeared from last June and which was approaching a closer little more from the series. Built on the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan Ariya, the French compact electric sedan is more conventional aesthetically. And it must be said, rather successful !

The new Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric will not replace the Mégane currently in the catalog immediately. By coexisting in the range at the same time, it will allow the transition gently to electric.

In terms of dimensions, the new electric mega is much shorter than the current thermal model: 4.21 meters long, 14 cm less ! It measures 1.78 meters wide, and 1.50 meters high. On the other hand the wheelbase is very generous, at 2.70 meters. This is the advantage of electric cars: in the absence of the largest mechanical elements, including the engine, you can stretch the wheelbase with reduced front and rear doors, and therefore stretch the cabin in a smaller outdoor space.

Aesthetically, the large 20 -inch rims, 18 “in series, gives a certain build to the car. Especially since the wheel arches are also large, the belt high, and there are protective hooves at the front and back. What to tend towards the crossovers, while it is indeed a compact sedan of the segment C. But the new electric mega also plays with the coupé codes, with the fleeting roof line and the printing that there are no rear doors thanks to handles over the rear amounts.

And then there are a number of details that give a real personality to this megane e-tech Electric, especially with the back of this new logo at the front, the piercing look with very fine LED lights, or again this line made up of micro-optical filaments cut in the rear laser which runs throughout the width.

We will also note the retractable handles integrated into the body, which allow not to affect the aerodynamics of the car too much, key element of electric cars.

Inside, the new zero emission mega has several rather impressive screens. As standard, it is equipped with a 9 -inch central infotainment screen (resolution of 1250 x 834 pixels), but what you see in the gallery is the larger (optional) 12 -inch screen (resolution of 1250 x 1562 pixels) which works with OpenR Link, an improved version of the Renault on -board operating system developed with Google and based on Android Automotive.

The instrumentation screen is even larger, 12.3 inches, and it has a relatively high resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels.

The manufacturer also claims to have improved the quality of the materials inside this vehicle compared to the old megane and seems quite proud of the optional room lighting (called Living Lights) which can be specified on this vehicle. Renault also claims that the 440-liter trunk is very practical thanks to its square shape and that the interior has been designed for the sake of practicality (and many storage spaces)- the largest stooge after the trunk itself- Even is the 30 -liter glove box.

The new E-Tech Electric mega is equipped with two electric motors: the basic vehicle has a power of 96 kW (129 hp) and a torque of 250 Newton-Mmers, while the most powerful variant has this power at 160 kW (215 hp) and a torque of 300 Nm. It is also offered with two battery capacities.

The megane e-tech differentiates somewhat from the thermal mega. If it is always a compact sedan, it is typed SUV. This electric version is based on the new CMF-EV platform developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. © Renault

After the success of his electric city car Zoe E-Tech, Renault tries to renew the feat on the compact sedans market. The fifth generation of the famous Megane is electric, and the first deliveries started.

The megane e-tech is in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3, the best-selling electric car in France in 2021. However, with the increase in Tesla prices, which is now displayed from 50.990 euros, Renault could do well. The megane e-tech begins at 35.200 euros (excluding bonuses), and even the most powerful version with premium finishes does not reach this price.
