Renault Megane E-Tech Electric (2022)
Renault continues its electric offensive with its new compact Megane e-Tech Electric. The car has nothing to do with thermal versions and uses special mechanics. Effective and technologically to the point, it is also very expensive.

Third electric model proposed by Renault after the Twingo Ze and Zoé city dwellers (we do not count the marginal Twizy), the Megane e-tech Electric marks the manufacturer’s investment in this type of engine. And, contrary to what her name can suggest, she has nothing to do, in terms of design, with the current Megane restyled in 2020. Indeed, this electric uses for the first time a dedicated platform (called CMF-EV), a specific body and a particular interior.
Quality of life on board

If the Megane E-Tech Electric challenges by its original exterior look, it is just as surprising inside. First of all, its digital slab, called OpenR and presented by Renault as a “unified screen”, which incorporates the central screen and the instrument handset in one piece. This gives the cabin a modern and very technological atmosphere. And, which does not spoil anything, this set turns out to be very practical and pleasant to use. Although placed a bit low, the central screen (12 inch) is very readable and allows you to adapt the display to have navigation, music, energy management information, etc. instrument combination (12.3 inches) whose display can adapt to demand. And that the least geeks reassure themselves, the use poses no particular concern and is very intuitive. The settings as well as access to the various menus made in a turmoil.
In addition, the compact now uses the OpenR link system based on Android OS, developed by Google, the same which animates more than 85 % of smartphones. Dedicated to the automobile and baptized Android Automotive, this software allows you to have several features: connected navigation Google Maps, the Virtual Hands-Liber assistant Google Assistant (weather, help, various requests) and piloting Functions of the multimedia system and Google Play for applications (more than 40 are dedicated to the automobile). In use, it is quite practical and intuitive. The voice command works very well and effectively makes it possible to easily manage navigation, music and its phone. And all this, without letting go of the steering wheel ! Of course, the navigation system is related to the architecture of the car in order to adapt the content and information to the electrical model in real time: remaining autonomy, recharge point nearby, etc.

The technological effect of the interior is reinforced by the very refined design of the dashboard. In addition, the latter, very fine, makes it possible to have a very important living space at the front. Similarly, the use of the digital slab, which has very good visibility in all circumstances (even in direct sunlight), allowed the manufacturer to not use a cap above the instrument handset, which still accentuates this feeling of space.
Too bad the storage spaces are not really the strong of this Megane and that, in particular with regard to door bins, they are not always very practical for use. Even the trunk is a bit limited with a loading volume of only 389 liters. It is true that the charging cables occupy a lot of space in their compartment. Please note, the latter being unfortunately located under the floor, you will have to think about taking out the cables if you have to roll the loaded trunk, at the risk of having to take out all the contents of the trunk to access the cables at the time of recharge.

Driving
The Megane E-Tech Electric uses a new powertrain declined in two versions: 96 kW (130 hp) and 250 Nm of torque or 160 kW (218 hp) and 300 nm. It is also possible to associate two battery capacities of 40 or 60 kWh. Note that these batteries are guaranteed 8 years or 160,000 km. In this interval, they are replaced free of charge if they deteriorate at a level less than 70 % of their nominal capacity. The first allows you to have a range of 300 km and the second can reach 450 km and even 470 km thanks to the “Evolution Extended Range” option. As with all manufacturers, these figures are theoretical and correspond to the official values of the WLTP approval standard. We got the wheel of a megane e-tech Electric EV60 220 hp.

On our journey made almost entirely on the highway, the GPS indicated to us that on arrival we would have another 20 % battery capacity. By consuming an average of 19.1 kW/h/100 km, we did a little better because the energy reserve was still 27 % when we cut contact. Which still represented, according to the on -board computer, an autonomy of 84 km. With the 221 km traveled, this therefore corresponds to a global distance of just over 300 km. It’s pretty good, but this performance was done by driving with the cruise control triggered and adopting a flexible driving, without making large accelerations. Then, in town and on the national road, we managed to descend our electric consumption at 18.3 kWh/100 km, always by adopting a very quiet driving and using the eco mode (the car has 4 different: eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco, eco comfort, sport and personal, a mode that must be configured according to its wishes).
The compact of Renault has a variable regenerative braking system whose power level is adjusted on 4 levels via the pallets behind the steering wheel. A little regret because the highest level does not allow “one pedal” driving, literally “a pedal”, that is to say that allows you to drive without ever using the brake to stop. Too bad because, with a little habit, this function is very appreciable in town and in traffic jams.
The Megane E-Tech has proven to be quite pleasant to drive, except on the degraded roads where the very hard suspensions undermine the occupants. All the bumps and defects of the relief are indeed translated into very unpleasant upheavals. Fortunately, on the highway, where the coating is generally of better quality, the comfort is much more appreciable. We particularly appreciated the management which offers an excellent feeling and which is very precise and direct. If it allows maneuvers in a pocket handkerchief, we regret the general bad visibility, especially backwards because of a very reduced dimension telescope. Optionally, the manufacturer offers an interior mirror with a camera that allows you to have a complete image of the rear of the car. But the effect is quite confusing and it is difficult to appreciate the distances with this device.

Security
The Megane E-Tech inaugurates an intelligent cruise control which, thanks to the recognition of the signal panels, automatically adapts the scheduled speed to that imposed. She also receives the system of keeping in the series, detection of fatigue, emergency braking as well as front and rear radars.
The new Megane E-Tech Electric benefits from the “Fireman Access”, an innovation born from the partnership between Renault Group and firefighters. This is a special access that allows rescue teams to face a drowning battery of the drowning quickly, to circumscribe the flames in 5 minutes against 1 to 3 hours for an electric vehicle that would be devoid of it. A QR code is also affixed to glazing. It allows help to recognize very quickly that it is an electric vehicle and to have access to architecture information (location of the battery, airbags, the places allowing a quick and risk -free cut, etc.)). This would save up to 15 minutes on the extraction time of an occupant.

The Renault Megane E-Tech in summary
You might as well die the abscess quickly: the Megane e-tech Electric is quite expensive, well in the price range of the electric compact segment. It is indeed offered between € 35,200 and € 51,400 (excluding bonuses). If we compare it to a Volkswagen ID3, which has a 204 hp engine, displayed at € 44,680, an equivalent megane (Techno EV60 220 CH Super load) costs € 43,200. It is also cheaper than a Tesla Model 3 (from € 49,990) but more expensive than a Nissan Leaf (less modern) offered from € 34,400. But, in these last two cases, these are more conventional sedans. Because it must be recognized, the Megane takes the ascendancy over the majority of its competitors in terms of design and technological level.

Renault Mégane E-Tech (2021) The best SUV made in France

- The quality of the finishes
- A controlled consumption
- Its starting price
Interior and exterior design
At the crossroads between a compact SUV, a crossover and a high perched sedan, we find the Renault Mégane E-Tech and its innovative design. This brings a welcome wind of freshness in the current automotive landscape, with a profile that will not fail to stand out.
With its 4.21 meters long and 1.77 meters wide and 1.51 meters high, The Megane E-Tech will be able to slip into the vast majority of the close parking spaces in our cities, while providing a appreciable space on board.

Iconic version – Rafale gray

Her 440 -liter trunk (1245 liters by folding down the seats) will be enough to slip in business to go on weekends, but will be a bit tight for a family vacation of four people.
Habitability at the rear is correct, even if the large sides of 1.80 meters and more will probably end up with the knees stuck at the front seat.

Techno version – Red Flame

Renault had a fine nose by sliding the term “tech” in its electric mega because it is full of on -board technologies. You will learn more by reading our detailed test of the Renault Mégane E-Tech of 220 horsepower, but everything we can wish is present: from Android Automotive to the 360-degree camera, including an interior mirror which is actually a screen displaying the view of the rear camera, and a high -quality instrumentation handset, It’s a full box for technophiles.
Options relating to different versions
In the Renault catalog, some options are available, regardless of the version of Mégane E-Tech chosen, while others are reserved for the high end. Whatever the engine and the battery envisaged, the electric car is available in “balance” versions, “techno” (for 3,000 euros additional) and “iconic” (for 5,700 euros more), which correspond respectively to the entry, midfield and high end of the brand’s electric electric.
The “balance” version is not eligible for certain optional packs, and does not have Android Automotive. On this version, you will have to do with the Openr Link system and its 9 -inch screen, without the software integration of Google. Also, the upholstery will be made of gray fabric, while it will be in leather (titanium black or light sand gray) for the high -end version.
Similarly, to benefit, for example, from front and heated steating seats, it will be necessary to opt for the “Winter Comfort Pack” at 550 euros, while this is included on the “Techno” and “Iconic” versions. A “comfort pack” is also reserved for the “balance” version, and includes a bi-zone automatic air conditioning, a central armrest with storage and a USB port at the rear for 900 euros.
Still in the entry -level version of the vehicle, if you want electric and front, rear and lateral radars mirrors, you will have to pay 650 euros for the “City Pack”, while this is included on the other two versions.

On the high-end versions of the megane e-tech, there is a wide range of driving aids (26 according to Renault), grouping active support in the track, an adaptive cruise control and a function of automatic parking especially.
If you do not want all of the driving aids offered, two different packs are available: “Augmented Vision Pack” for 1,500 euros, or “Advanced Driving Assist” for 1,200 euros. Given the price of 1,700 euros for all aid, We can only advise you to take the full pack entitled “Augmented Vision & Advanced Driving Assist”, Available only on “techno” and “iconic” versions.
Finally, note that a heat pump is offered as an option at 400 euros for all versions: this limits the consumption of heating in cold weather, which can be very useful in winter conditions.
Many colors are in the Renault catalog for the electric car, with prices ranging from 400 to 1,250 euros for the “balance” and “techno” version, while they are included in the “iconic” version. To find out more about the differences between versions, do not hesitate to consult the Renault online configurator.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV40
Renault declines its megane e-tech in Two different battery sizes: 40 and 60 kWh. In the case of the small battery, the 96 kW engine (or 130 horsepower) offers 250 Nm of torque and 0 to 100 km/h is shot in 10 seconds all battery. Finally, note that the maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h. Let’s see below the different variants offered with the 40 kWh battery, which is distinguished by the charging system.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV40 130ch Standard Charge
The least expensive Renault Mégane E-Tech will also be the least that will offer the least versatility. Indeed, if the standard EV40 130hp load starts at 35,200 euros Excluding ecological bonus in “balance” version, there is a particular characteristic that must be in mind: No fast current load is possible.

The 7.4 kW -single -phase on -board charger will recharge, in the best of cases, the battery in 6 hours and 30 minutes. This variant will therefore be To be reserved for urban and peri -urban use, and there will be no question of making major journeys exceeding its autonomy.
In the WLTP cycle, the autonomy announced is 300 kilometers, with a reference consumption in the mixed cycle displayed at 15.8 kWh per 100 kilometers.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV40 130ch Boost Charge
If you want to go in large journeys occasionally, the Renault Mégane E-Tech EV40 130ch Boost Charge will be the minimum vital. This variant of the vehicle takes up all the elements of that presented in the previous paragraph, adding on the one hand fast load up to 85 kW, and on the other hand an on -board charger of 22 kW.
The “Boost Charge” option is billed at 2,000 euros, and thus the starting price of this Renault Mégane E-Tech EV40 130ch Boost Charge is 37,200 euros, Excluding ecological bonus. The autonomy in WLTP cycle is unchanged, displayed at 300 kilometers.
Thanks to the 22 kW on -board charger, you can take advantage of the alternating current recharges on a Wallbox adapted three times faster than on the “Standard Charge” version. Thus, it will only take 2 hours and 20 minutes to fill the battery on a 22 kW terminal.
Finally, The fast charge is part, with a maximum power of 85 kW in direct current, This will allow you to arrive at 80 % battery in about 40 minutes. This will occasionally cover long journeys, where a meridian break will be enough to fully fill the battery.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60
Renault, however, thought of those for whom it is imperative to have more autonomy, and therefore offers a 50 % larger battery in this iteration of the megane e-tech. Two different engines are available, but they are aimed at two different audiences.

The Business range, reserved for professionals, is available with the same engine as the EV40 mega e-tech, namely 96 kW (130 horsepower). The performance is slightly worse than on the version with the smallest battery, the fault of an overweight of just over 100 kilograms due to the battery.
The range for individuals has a 160 kW or 220 horsepower engine, which will of course be more bicycle. We take stock of the different variants of the Renault vehicle below.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 130ch Super Charge
Reserved for professionals, the Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 130ch Super Charge offer 470 kilometers of autonomy in WLTP cycle, with a mixed cycle consumption displayed at 15.5 kWh per 100 kilometers. The maximum torque is 250 Nm and the 0 to 100 km/h is shot in 10.5 seconds.
The on -board charger is 7.4 kW (single -phase) and allows you to recharge entirely in about 9 hours and 15 minutes according to Renault. The fast charge is indeed (up to 130 kW of maximum power), and the French manufacturer displays 37 minutes to go from 10 to 80 % battery in optimal conditions.
In terms of prices, the entry ticket is displayed at 39,000 euros Excluding ecological bonus for this Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 130ch Super load, in finish reserved for professionals called “Evolution ER”.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 130ch Optimum Charge
Using all the characteristics of his little sister as a “super load” variant, the Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 130ch Optimum Charge modifies only one thing: the charger on board. Indeed, It is 22 kW and supports a three -phase diet By alternating current, allowing the 60 kWh battery to be fully filled in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
All of the other characteristics are unchanged. To take advantage of this 22 kW on -board charger, it will be necessary to add 1,500 euros, bringing the minimum addition to 42,700 euros, still excluding ecological bonus.
Renault Mégane E-Tech EV60 220ch Super Load
The 220 horsepower engine from the e-tech megane is offered on the versions intended for individuals and displays even better performance. The maximum speed is increased to 160 km/h, when 0 to 100 km/h is shot in 7.4 seconds. The autonomy announced for this variant is 454 kilometers in WLTP cycle and consumption in the mixed cycle is 16.1 kWh per 100 kilometers.
The fast charge is always included: On a fast 130 kW charger Or more, fast recharging from 10 to 80 % will take at least 37 minutes, such as the version reserved for professionals. The on -board charger is limited to 7.4 kW by single -phase alternating current on this variant of electric mega, ensuring full filling of the battery in 9 hours and 15 minutes.
