Adding or deleting your phone number in messages or facetime
Once you have configured your phone number, you can activate or deactivate it for messages and FaceTime on your iPad or iPod Touch.
See your phone number already present in WhatsApp
All WhatsApp accounts are associated with telephone numbers. Insofar as mobile operators often recycle telephone numbers, it is possible that the former owner of your current phone number used WhatsApp.
- Your contacts and yourself can see your phone number in WhatsApp before activating a new account.
- You can also see the section Info and the profile photo of another person associated with your phone number.
There is no reason to worry. This only means that the previous account has not been deleted, the old information therefore still exists in the system. This does not mean not that the former owner of the phone number has access to your WhatsApp account. Your conversations and other WhatsApp data is secure.
- The account remained inactive for 45 days.
- The account was then reactivated on another mobile device.
We then delete the old account data related to the phone number, such as profile photo and section Info.

Configure your phone number
On your iPhone:

- Access Settings> Messages, and make sure the iMessage option is activated. You may have to wait for a moment before it is activated.
- Touch shipment and reception. If the message “Use your Apple ID for iMessage” is displayed, touch it and log with the Apple identifier you use on your Mac, iPad or iPod Touch.
- In the section “You can receive iMessages to and answer”, make sure your phone number and Apple identifier are selected.
- Go to settings> FaceTime, and make sure that your phone number and Apple identifier are selected in the section “You can be contacted via FaceTime”.
On your other devices, you can now activate the phone number you have just configured:
If you use this feature and share your Apple identifier with someone, you cannot prevent it from seeing your conversations. Instead of using the same Apple identifier as another person, configure family sharing.
To configure a phone number to use with messages or facetime, you need an active SIM card or an ESIM associated with this number.
Delete your phone number
If you do not want to receive calls or messages related to your iPhone on your iPad, iPod Touch or Mac, you can delete your phone number. There are two ways to proceed:
- On your iPhone, access settings> messages> sending and reception. Select your Apple identifier at the bottom of the screen and touch off you. Then go to settings> FaceTime, select your Apple identifier and touch offset.
- If the phone number you want to delete belongs to an iPhone to which you do not have access, modify the password associated with your Apple identifier. This action deletes all phone numbers from your iPad, iPod Touch and Mac. Calls or messages of deleted numbers will no longer appear on these devices.

Activate or deactivate your phone number for your Mac

- For messages, choose messages> Settings, then click Imessage. For FaceTime, choose FaceTime> Preferences, then click General.
- Activate or deactivate your phone number:
- To activate your phone number, select it in the list, as well as your Apple identifier. If your phone number does not appear, ask for help to define your settings or contact Apple assistance. If you see a number that is not yours, change the password associated with your Apple identifier.
- To deactivate your phone number, deselect it in the list.
- If you want the recipients to see your phone number and not your Apple identifier, select your phone number from the local menu “Start new conversations” or “make calls from”.
