What are the Internet boxes with the fastest flow ?
Thanks to optical fiber, your connection speed achieves record performance. But which fiber offer to choose to have the best speed ?

The SFR Premium fiber is the faster box
The SFR Fiber Premium is the Internet package that displays the best speeds on the market. Thanks to the XGS-Pon technology that SFR began to deploy since the beginning of 2022, the operator promises a speed up to 8 Gb/s for download and up to 1 Gb/s in transfer.
The premium box is aptly named and to benefit from its power, it will be necessary to pay more than the cheap boxes whose flow does not exceed 500 Mb/s at the entry level. In addition to its performance, the Premium SFR box includes many services:
- 200 TV channels (including the family bouquet)
- Netflix and Disney+ offered for 6 months
- A 4G box with 30 GB of Internet per month
- A 4K decoder with a connected speaker
Freebox Delta: 8 Gb/s and full of services included
Like SFR, Free also offers a fiber offer with a maximum theoretical speed of 8 GB/S. The Freebox Delta offer is however less swift than the SFR Premium on the amount rate (700 Mb/s) but that does not really have an impact on a daily basis ! In addition to being the fastest of the boxes offered by Free, the Freebox Delta is also the most complete in terms of services.
It is the fiber offer par excellence for families looking for a “all in one” subscription:
- 6th Wi-Fi compatible modem with rehearsal included
- 240 channels included with the TV by Canal bouquet
- Netflix and Amazon Prime Video included (Canal+ Series offered for 1 year)
- Android TV decoder
- Free Ligue 1 and Cafeyn included
- Home automation center
Note that Free allows its Delta subscribers to choose with which TV decoder they want to equip themselves: the default POP player, the Delta decoder with the Connected Divialet speaker or the Apple TV 4K.
Freebox Pop: 5 GB/S and the best value for money on the market
With a slightly lower flow than the Delta, the Freebox Pop remains one of the best fiber offers in its category. You can count on a speed of 5 Gb/s for download and 700 Mb/s in sending of files. But above all, the Freebox Pop displays a good value for money with its price on promotion the first year, the streaming video services offered for 1 year, the Android Player Pop decoder and the Free 5G package at only 9.99 €/month.
Bbox Ultym: 2 GB/S and a top Wi-Fi
If Bouygues Telecom certainly displays a slower speed on paper than its competitors SFR and Free, it concentrates its efforts on the customer experience, and in particular on the quality of the Wi-Fi network of its box. With a flow of 2 GB/s in Download and 900 MB/s in upload, the Bbox Ultym offers a very fast internet connection with several strengths:
- A 6th Wi-Fi compatible modem
- Up to two additional Wi-Fi repeaters included
- The Bbox 4K HDR TV decoder
- Disney+ and Salto offered for 6 months
- A mini 4G box with 50 giga each month
Recall that all these Internet offers are not yet available everywhere in France. To take advantage of it, your home must be connected or connected to the fiber optics. Go to our eligibility test to quickly check what are the boxes and flows available at your address.

- Best rate in 4G/5G: what is the classification of operators ?
- Mobile Internet: Who is the best operator ?
The Internet, fixed or mobile, occupies a preponderant place in our lives. Having a good internet connection has become essential. From then on, when you choose an internet box or a mobile package, you necessarily want Know who is the best fixed or mobile internet operator. And, we invariably ask ourselves these kinds of questions: which is the fastest internet operator ? ; which operator goes best with me ? For the simple reason that we are all Looking for the best fiber or ADSL flow rate, the best speed in 4G or 5G.
Degrouptest brings you some answers. We can indeed reveal to you which operator delivers the best fixed and mobile internet speeds.
Advice to start: do not trust theoretical maximum flows
In life, there are things we would like to have, that are of the order of fantasy, and the things we really have. In terms of the fixed and mobile internet, it’s the same: there are the theoretical maximum speeds, displayed by operators, and real flows, which are delivered by our box or smartphone.
In ADSL, for example, operators communicate saying that it is possible to reach up to 20 Mb/s, up to 50 Mb/s in VDSL and up to 95 Mb/s. For optical fiber, it’s the same, Internet access providers, say that it is possible to have fiber up to 300 Mb/s, 1 GB/S, 2 GB/S, 5 GB/ s, or even 8 Gb/s, depending on the offers. In terms of mobile internet, it’s the same thing. 4G/4G+ would allow you to have a flow of up to 150 or 250 Mb/s. As for 5G, mobile operators indicate that it allows a flow of 615 Mb/s in the band of 2.1 GHz and 2.1 Gb/s in the 3.5 GHz bands.
But, let’s be clear and don’t be mistaken. These are theoretical flows. They were obtained in the laboratory, by placing technology or network to be tested in optimal conditions. Far from the real conditions you have when you are on the internet from your computer or your smartphone. Except that operators have every interest in communicating on possible profit rather than real benefit. It’s more seller. Flows are a commercial argument and have only one indicative value.
Because, in real life, it is extremely difficult to have the theoretical maximum speed displayed by operators. In their defense, however, it is impossible for them to advance figures that meet the real situation of each user. There are indeed too many parameters that can influence the quality of an internet connection. Distrust, therefore, when you subscribe to an internet box or a mobile package, expect to have lower flow, or even much lower, to that to which you could claim. Just do a debit test to realize it.

What access provider has the best internet flow rates ?
In terms of the fixed internet, average speed, all technologies combined, is 297 Mb/s in July 2023, According to the degree fee barometer (+28% over a year). For its part, our partner NPERF, in its barometer of fixed internet connections in mainland France, estimates that in the first half of 2023, the average flow with a fixed internet connection is 271 Mb/s, against 225 Mb/s in 2021, an increase of 20% in one year.
The more time passes, and this is normal with the growing place of optical fiber and changes in Wi-Fi standards, plus The French have a better speed. Nevertheless, this figure, in itself, does not mean much. It only means that, from year to year, the French benefit, at the national level, from a Best Internet connection.
But, to be really relevant, it is necessary to make the difference between the real fees in ADSL and in optical fiber. Even better, for each of the technologies, we are able to tell you which operator delivers the best speeds.
Which operator delivers the best fiber flow ?
If you are eligible for optical fiber, you have the choice to be able to equip yourself with technology that allows the best internet speed. And, from far away. The operators, according to the offers, deliver a theoretical flow of 300 Mb/s up to 8 Gb/s. We said, these are theoretical flows. Because, in reality, even if the average fiber flow remains very high, it is lower than the theoretical flow.
So which operator offers the best fiber internet connection speed ? With an average descending speed of 590 Mb/s (degreptest July 2023) or 597 Mb/s (nperf 2nd semester 2022), Free comes first. It widely is ahead of the other three operators. An almost logical result, indeed. Free is indeed the only operator to offer a minimum speed of 1 GB/s to all of its fiber customers. Free is ahead of Bouygues Telecom (508 Mb/s according to DEGROUPTEST, 479 MB/S according to NPERF), ORANGE (457 MB/S according to DEGROUPTEST, 445 MB/S according to NPERF) and SFR (450 Mb/s according to Degroupttest, 450 MB/S according to nperf).
| Operator | Reception flow (Degrouptest September 2023) | Reception flow (nperf 2nd semester 2022) |
|---|---|---|
| Orange | 451 Mb/s | 445 Mb/s |
| SFR | 444 Mb/s | 450 Mb/s |
| Free | 575 Mb/s | 597 MB/S |
| Bouygues Telecom | 508 Mb/s | 481 Mb/s |
| Operator | Flow (Degrouptest September 2023) | Flow (nperf 2nd semester 2022) |
|---|---|---|
| Orange | 356 Mb/s | 370 MB/s |
| SFR | 335 Mb/s | 343 Mb/s |
| Free | 372 MB/s | 407 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 411 MB/S | 367 Mb/s |
Which operator has the best performance in Wi-Fi ?
Every six months, NPERF also publishes its Wi-Fi barometer of internet connections in mainland France. In the first half of 2023, Bouygues Telecom arrives (still) largely in the lead. “A remarkable performance”, also underlines Nperf. And especially in terms of download flow. Indeed, with an average downward speed in Wi-Fi of 287 Mb/s, Bouygues Telecom outlets its competitors. It is indeed a speed almost 40% greater than that of all its competitors : 215 Mb/s for Free, 202 Mb/s for Orange and 199 Mb/s for SFR.
Average descending speed in Wi-Fi by operator
| Operator | Reception flow (nperf) |
|---|---|
| Orange | 202 Mb/s |
| SFR | 199 Mb/s |
| Free | 215 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 287 Mb/s |
In terms of Wi-Fi performance, Bouygues Telecom is not content to deliver the best medium drop-down speed. It is he who also delivers the best uprights, to the weakest latency, the best web browsing and the best video streaming.
What FAI has the best fees in ADSL ?
ADSL is high speed, with a flow rate up to 15 Mb/s. A theoretical figure, even more than for fiber. Indeed, with ADSL, the Internet connection lacks stability because it is sensitive to electromagnetic disturbances and there is a substantial loss of flows linked to the remoteness of the box compared to the telephone central. Not to mention all the other reasons which are likely to have the flow tank, such as the congestion of the network. Result, the maximum theoretical flow of 15 Mb/s in ADSL is an inaccessible grail with this technology. For its part, the government has set the Threshold of “good broadband” at 8 Mb/s, that he had promised everyone at the end of 2020.
So, in accordance with the government’s promise, all French people subscribers in ADSL have “good broadband” ? And, which operator delivers the best rate in ADSL ? At the first question, the answer is no. At the second, the answer is Bouygues Telecom. Indeed, according to the NPERF barometer of the first half of 2023, Bouygues Telecom delivers the best average ADSL flow, with 8.54 Mb/s. Another operator above the threshold fixed by the government: Free, with 8.478 Mb/s.
With an average ADSL flow of 7.70 Mb/s and 7.39 Mb/s, Orange and SFR are therefore below the threshold set by the government. To explain the Orange underperformance, NPERF explains that the historic operator is sometimes the only operator to serve very distant areas with therefore little flow.
As for the Degrouptest barometer (July 2023), it indicates the flow for each operator in ADSL/VDSL. And, once again, Free comes first with 22 Mb/s, in front of Orange (20 Mb/s), SFR (20 Mb/s) and Bouygues Telecom (18 Mb/s).

| Operator | ADSL/VDSL flow at reception (Degrouptest September 2023) | ADSL flow in reception (nperf 1st semester 2023) |
|---|---|---|
| Orange | 20 Mb/s | 7.70 Mb/s |
| SFR | 20 Mb/s | 7.39 Mb/s |
| Free | 22 Mb/s | 8.47 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 18 Mb/s | 8.54 Mb/s |

| Operator | ADSL/VDSL flow by sending (Degrouptest September 2023) | ADSL flow by sending (nperf 1st semester 2023) |
|---|---|---|
| Orange | 8 Mb/s | 0.59 Mb/s |
| SFR | 9 Mb/s | 0.54 Mb/s |
| Free | 10 Mb/s | 0.64 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 9 Mb/s | 0.46 Mb/s |
Orange, Free, SFR, Bouygues Telecom: who has the best 5G speeds ?
In its barometer of mobile internet connections in mainland France in the first quarter of 2023, our partner NPERF indicates that Orange and SFR are the two operators who deliver the best average descending speed in 5G, with 366 Mb/s and 276 Mb/s respectively, very Far ahead of Bouygues Telecom (187 Mb/s) and Free (174 Mb/s).
For information, the objective of the NPERF flow test is measured the maximum connection capacity. Its barometer is therefore less representative of the experience felt by users and testifies more to the potential of operators. Besides, we will see that most institutes endeavor to measure the flows delivered in 4G/5G. Because 5G packages are 4G compatible and subscribers often change from one network to another.
Average descending speed in 5G per operator
| Operator | Reception flow (nperf) |
|---|---|
| Orange | 366 Mb/s |
| SFR | 276 Mb/s |
| Free | 174 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 187 Mb/s |
Best 4G speed: what is the classification of operators ?
According to the NPERF barometer, in the first quarter of 2023, it is Orange which delivers the best flow rate in 4G with a connection speed of 64 Mb/s. Quite far ahead of Free (53 Mb/s), which settles in the second in the operators’ classification. SFR (50 Mb/s) climbs on the third step of the podium. With (only) 42 Mb/s of medium 4G flow, Bouygues Telecom is good last.
Average descending rate in 4G by operator
| Operator | Reception flow (nperf) |
|---|---|
| Orange | 64 Mb/s |
| SFR | 50 Mb/s |
| Free | 53 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 42 Mb/s |
Best rate in 4G/5G: what is the classification of operators ?
Unlike NPERF, Degrouptest does not give a classification for average flows in 4G and one for average flows in 5G, but only one classification with the 4G and 5G average flows combined. Another way of doing things, which, as we have seen, is just as interesting, or even more, because it testifies more of the experience felt by mobile subscribers.
However, according to our barometer, in July 2023, it is Orange which delivers the best average rate in 4G/5G with 101 Mb/s, in front of Bouygues Telecom (80 Mb/s), free (70 Mb/s) and SFR ( 69 Mb/s).
For its part, Arcep also uses the same method. In its observatory of the quality of mobile services 2022 edition), it appears that Orange offers the best flow rates in 5G (143 Mb/s on the whole of France and 217 Mb/s in dense zone), ahead of Bouygues Telecom (84 Mb/s in France and 167 Mb/s in dense zone), SFR (84 Mb/s in France and 163 Mb/s in dense zone) and finally Free (64 Mb/s in France and 80 Mb/s in dense zone )).

Finally, according to the 5GMARK flow barometer, a third measurement institute, which also uses the same method, it is Orange which delivers the best 4G/5G speeds, with an average of 109.9 Mb/s, before SFR ( 81.2 Mb/s), Bouygues Telecom (75.9 Mb/s) and Free (61.6 Mb/s).
Average descending rate in 4G/5G by operator
| Operator | Reception flow (Degrouptest September 2023) | Reception flow (Arcep 2022) | Reception flow (5GMARK 2022) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orange | 64 Mb/s | 143 Mb/s | 109.9 Mb/s |
| SFR | 62 Mb/s | 84 Mb/s | 81.20 Mb/s |
| Free | 66 Mb/s | 64 Mb/s | 61.60 Mb/s |
| Bouygues Telecom | 77 Mb/s | 84 Mb/s | 75.90 Mb/s |
Mobile Internet: Who is the best operator ?
In terms of mobile internet, the quality of an internet connection is not only determined by the download debit. NPERF and ARCEP also consider the amount of speed, the latency, the quality of web navigation or the quality of viewing a video.
All criteria combined, it is despite everything Orange that comes widely in the lead. Bouygues Telecom and SFR follow behind and are in a pocket handkerchief with overall mobile internet performance which are substantially the same, while Free Mobile is still a little more behind .
