Use the double sim on the iPhone
Here are some examples of use of the double sim:
- Use a number for professional calls and another for personal calls.
- Add a local data package when you travel to another country or another region.
- Use a voice and another package for data.
Noticed : To be able to use packages from two different operators, your iPhone must be unlocked. Consult the article Unlock your iPhone to use it with another Apple assistance operator.
You can configure the double sim on the following devices:
- A physical sim card and an ESIM card; Available on iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 14 and subsequent models (purchased outside the United States).
- Two esim; iPhone 13, iPhone SE (3rd generation) and subsequent models
Noticed : ESIM cards are not available in all countries or all regions.
Configure the double sim

- Access Settings> Cellular data, then check that you have at least two lines (under “SIM cards”). To add a line, see the Configure Cellular Service section on the iPhone.
- Activate two numbers: Touch a line, then touch “Activate this number”. You can also modify settings, such as “Cellular Package”, “Wi-Fi calls” (if your operator offers this option), “calls on other devices” or “SIM card”. The label appears in phone, messages and contacts.
- Choose the default line for cellular data: touch “cellular data”, then touch a line. To use one line or the other depending on coverage and availability, activate “switching cell data”. Having costs can be billed to you if the “data abroad” option is activated and you are outside the country or the region covered by the network of your operator.
- Choose the default line for voice calls: touch “default line”, then touch a line.
When you use the double sim, keep in mind the following points:
- The “Wi-Fi calls” option must be activated for a line, so that the latter can receive calls while the other is being called. If you receive a call on one line while the other is in call and no Wi-Fi network is available, the iPhone uses cellular data in use to receive the ‘Call of the other line. Fees may apply. To receive a call from the other line, that in appeal must have the authorization to use data in the cellular data settings (as a default line or as a line which is by default with the option “authorize the switching of cellular data” activated).
- If you do not activate “Wi-Fi calls” for a line, all incoming calls on this line (including those from help) are directly directed to voicemail (if your operator offers it) when the other line is in use. You do not receive missed call notifications. If you configure a conditional call referral (if your operator offers it) from one line to the other when a line is occupied or out of service, calls are not redirected to voicemail; Contact your operator to obtain configuration instructions.
- If you make a call from another device, like your Mac, by relaying it via an iPhone with Double SIM, the call has made with the default line for the voice.
- If you start an SMS/MMS messages conversation with a line, you cannot switch the conversation to the other line; You must delete the conversation and start a new one using the other line. In addition, additional costs may be invoiced if you send attachments to SMS/MMS on the line which is not that chosen for cellular data.
- Instant Hotspot and connection sharing features use the selected line for cellular data.
