Insert a trombone or the SIM card ejection tool in the small card support orifice, then push in the direction of the iPhone to remove this support. You will notice that one of the angles of the new SIM card is truncated. Place the new SIM card in the lower part of the support. It can only be positioned in one direction, due to its truncated angle. Then insert the other SIM card in the upper part of the support.

Once the two nano-sim cards in place, reinsert the support entirely in the device, in the same direction as when it is withdrawn. The support can only be inserted in one direction.

If your SIM cards are protected by a personal identification number (PIN), note the position of each SIM card in the support (above or below). If you are invited, enter the respective pine codes of the two SIM cards.

Define your default phone number

Select a number to use when you take a call or send a message to a person who is not saved to your contact apps. Select the mobile packages you want to use for Imessage and FaceTime. With iOS 13 and subsequent versions, you can select one of the numbers or both.

On this screen, select the number of your default line. You can, if you prefer, choose a number that will only be used for mobile data. Your other number will then be that of your default line. If you want your iPhone to use the mobile data of your two packages, depending on the coverage and availability, activate the “Authorizing the change in cellular data” option.

Use two phone numbers for calls, messages and data

Now that two phone numbers are configured on your iPhone, here is how to use them:

Let your iPhone remember the number to use

When you call one of your contacts, it is not necessary to select the number to use each time. Your iPhone uses the same number by default that you used the last time you called this contact. If you have not called this contact, your iPhone uses your default number. If you wish, you can indicate the number to use to call a contact. Proceed as follows:

  1. Touch the contact.
  2. Touch “Favorite Cellular Package”.
  3. Tap the number to use with this contact.

Make and receive calls

You can make and receive phone calls with your two phone numbers.

With iOS 13 and subsequent versions, when you are in communication, if the operator of your other phone number supports Wi-Fi calls, you can answer incoming calls on your other number. To do this, you must activate the option “Authorize the change in cellular data” when you are in communication on the line which is not your default mobile data line. If you do not activate this option or if you ignore the call, and you have configured voicemail to your operator, you will receive a missed call notification, and the call will be redirected to your voicemail. Determine if your operator supports Wi-Fi calls and your data provider applies additional costs or mobile data use costs.

If your operator does not support Wi-Fi calls or if the Wi-Fi calls option is not activated on your device 1, the incoming calls you receive on your other phone number while you are in communication are redirected to your voicemail, provided that you have configured it to your operator 2 . However, your secondary number will not send you a missed call notification. The call signal works for incoming calls on the same phone number. In order not to miss an important call, you can activate the call referral and redirect all calls from one number to the other. Check with your operator if this service is available and if it generates additional costs.

1. If you use iOS 12, install iOS 13 or a later version to receive calls when using your other phone number.
2. If the functionality given abroad is activated on the line which uses mobile data, then visual voicemail as well as MMS sending and reception will be deactivated on the number you have chosen for voice messages only.

With the iPhone 14, Apple begins the abandonment of physical sim cards

The Dynamic Island combines the compulsory with the pleasant

The iPhone 14 PROs always embark three photo blocks, but have a profound change for great promises

Apple is gradually pushing the physical SIM cards to the output. In the United States, iPhone 14s are not equipped with SIM drawer. Users must absolutely turn to ESIM. What about in France ?

After months of waiting, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are finally official. As we can see on the brand’s official website, models sold in the United States have a small specificity. They don’t have a drawer to slide the SIM card. All new models are affected by this size change.

American users will imperatively have to turn to ESIM to connect to the network of their telecommunications operator. This is an irremovable SIM card, directly integrated into the motherboard of the smartphone. Often presented as a dematerialized or virtual SIM card, ESIM makes it easier for exchanges between the subscriber and the operator. For the record, Apple adopted ESIM in 2018 with the release of the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

Goodbye the physical sim cards

On its American website, Apple assures that ESIM ” simplifies things “. Questioned by The Verge on the sidelines of the Keynote, an Apple spokesperson revealed that the iPhone 14/14 Plus can store up to Six ESIM active. For its part, the iPhone 14 Pro/ 14 Pro Max is climbing eight esim.

“You can activate your new iPhone or add digital operators, to call and send SMS in no time. And unlike a physical card, ESIM cannot be removed if your iPhone is lost or stolen “, Apple argues.

In the USA, Most operators Take charge of ESIM. This is for example the case of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Tracfone and T-Mobile. The main operators, including T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T, will set up resources to help users in the transition. Nevertheless, the subscribers of an operator who have not yet adopted ESIM will have to ignore the iPhone 14, or change telecom. Note that it is possible that Apple’s strategy will push the latest reluctant operators to get to ESIM.

The deletion of the drawer has several advantages for Apple. It saves a precious place within smartphones. By ignoring this element, Apple can also improve the tightness of iPhone.

And in France ?

The iPhone 14s which will be marketed in France embark Always a SIM card drawer. This is also the case in the rest of the world. For the time being, Apple’s decision only concerns the American market. On its French website, Apple clearly specifies that the iPhone 14 are carrying out a double SIM (Nano – Sim and Esim). Concretely, it is possible to slip a nano-sim card and take advantage of the smartphone welded card. In addition, they support the double esim function.

ESIM has gradually spread to French operators. Orange began to offer the virtual SIM card to its subscribers in 2016. The historic operator was joined in 2020 by Bouygues Télécom and SFR. Free Mobile was the last to go for the course. Clearly, all the major telecoms in the country also started to abandon the SIM card. There is no doubt that future iPhone sold in France, such as the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16, could be deprived of SIM drawer.

After the jack, Apple precipitates the death of the SIM card

Apple is used toaccelerate the passage from one standard to another with its products. For example, the Californian brand precipitated the end of the jack on smartphone. In 2016, Apple launched the iPhone 7, the first smartphone without a connector 3.5 mm. As an alternative, the firm offered Bluetooth headphones (the famous AirPods) or Lightning headphones.

At first, competition openly mocked the Apple decision. Samsung, Google and others have not been tender with their rival, especially in the context of advertising campaigns. Likewise, many consumers have expressed their dissatisfaction.

However, the absence of Port Jack quickly became The standard in the mobile industry. Samsung and Google were the first to follow suit with Apple, followed by Chinese brands. Nowadays, most phones skip the jack. We can expect history to repeat itself with the SIM card. In the coming months, Samsung, Google or Xiaomi will launch smartphones without SIM drawer ?
