TV test LG OLED C2: an image close to perfection

The OLED C2 TV marketed by LG is essential as the new market reference, with a quality/price ratio that continues to improve.

Each year, LG updates its range of televisions. On the OLED segment, C models represent the heart of the catalog. And, in this year 2022, we therefore go to the C2 model, available in multiple sizes (42, 48, 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches). The big novelty is to be taken from the side of OLED EVO technology, articulated around the new α9 Gen5 AI processor and ever more efficient algorithms.

In short, LG promises an ever more refined image, while its OLED products are considered, year after year, as references. You might as well admit it right away, yes, C2 is our new darling for three reasons: a slightly increased brightness, a spectacular visual rendering and its appetite for video games. As a bonus, prices are decreasing for certain sizes: the 65 inch version is launched at € 2,799, against € 2,999 on the previous generation. To compare, the SONY QD-OLED specimen, technology supposedly greater than the OLED, should exceed € 4,000.

Finally change in design

For years, LG has recovered from it to the same design concerning its C TVs. Good news: in 2022, the model changed – finally – of look. It may be only a detail for you, but for some, it will mean a lot, since the foot no longer occupies the whole width of the product. For those who have a narrow piece of furniture, this change is excellent news, unless you prefer a wall grip. On the other hand, the height compared to the furniture remains insufficient to place a soundbar without masking the bottom of the image. LG would be well inspired to enhance the screen a few centimeters.

In addition brightness

We repeat ourselves from test test: the OLED tiles designed by LG quickly reached a level of excellence, which allows very few major developments from one year to the next. Therefore, the magnifying glass must be taken out to see real differences between a C2 and a C1. OLED EVO technology still restores a semblance of pep to the image, thanks to light up light (it exceeds 800 nits, which was not the case in 2021). We are certainly still far from a Samsung Qled TV (too bright, anyway), but we start to get used to it. Especially since the show is really of quality.

Between blacks of perfect depth (pixels emit their own light and can therefore go out completely), the dive of surgical precision and LG’s progress in pre-regalages, it is impossible to be disappointed by C2. In addition to a solid base linked to the intrinsic qualities of an OLED panel, we benefit from an extremely refined image processing, giving birth to a rendering that is both natural and full of volume. The colors are impeccable accuracy, including on the most complicated elements to restore (for example, the skin tones), and the flattens are perfect. LG also manages to eliminate the few inconveniences of the OLED, in the wake of whites less brilliant.

Versatile, the LG C2 is ultra comfortable with video games. In addition to delay in imperceptible display (under 10 ms), it offers several prized features of gamers: four HDMI 2 ports.1, 4K at 120 FPS, Auto LateNcy Mode (automatic transition to low latency mode when a console is lit) and VRR (which avoids screen tears)-with G-Sync (NVIDIA) and Freesync (AMD) compatibility (AMD). There is even a special interface when the game mode is active, with certain specific options (example: a dark room adjustment to lower the brightness and preserve its view). The smallest formats – 42 and 48 inches – can also transform the C2 into a very relevant PC monitor.
