Samsung the Premiere (LSP9T) test: the ultra short focal 4K tri-laser projector that wants to replace the TV

Writing note: 5 out of 5

Incorporating a tuner and the Tizen house system, the Samsung the Premiere video projector, proposes to replace the TV proposes to replace the TV with its three lasers and its ultra HD DLP chip to display a 130 -inch image (330 cm).

Presentation

The first video projector marks Samsung’s return to the video projector segment, and it is already in itself a small revolution. The latest Home Cinema Samsung video projector that we tested in November 2009 was the Samsung SP-A600B, a Full HD DLP model which did not have to be ashamed of comparison with competition.

The Samsung The Premiere therefore takes up the torch with a focal ultra-short concept, much more in tune with the times, because it is easier to install. It hosts a 4K DLP chip associated with a laser lighting system (mono-laser on the LSP7T and tri-laser on the LSP9T). We tested the Samsung LSP9T equipped with three lasers and a Texas Instruments DLP 0.66 “chip displaying a native definition of 2716 x 1528 px. The Texas Instruments chip uses the wobulation 120 Hz diagonally to actually display 8 million pixels (3840 x 2160 px) at 60 Hz. If it is not an ultra HD 4K native chip as on Sony’s SXRD models, the image is well displayed in Ultra HD at 60 Hz and it is impossible to make the difference with an ultra HD native image, even on Ultra HD testing. The laser source offers the advantages of LEDs such as instant starting and lifespan (20,000 hours) associated with the high luminosity of an ultra high pressure lamp (UHP).

The Samsung The Premiere LSP9T was thought of as an alternative to a TV and therefore incorporates a tuner, an audio system 4.2 with a power of 40 W and the Tizen house interface. It is therefore completely autonomous and can work as is, without external source. It is the first HDR10+certified model, which is not a surprise, since Samsung is the initiator of this format, with Panasonic and 20th Fox Century, in order to compete with Dolby Vision.

The Samsung the Premiere LSP9T is sold around € 6,500. It is in direct competition with the VAVA 4K UST Laser Projector, which we recently tested, and the Optoma UHZ65UST, which we have not tested, but which is a reference in the field of 4K Ultra-COURTE LASER models. More broadly, it can also be compared to the 4K Sony VPL-270ES video projector-a native 4K model with classic focal length-offering very first-rate performance for a price of around € 5,000 and, by extension, to the Rolls of Ultra video projectors -Focal reception, the Sony VPL-1000ES, with its native 4K SXRD chip and its laser source, sold about… € 10,000.

2D image quality

The Samsung The Premiere LSP9T is equipped with a Fixed Focus Fixed Fixed Optics which makes it possible to project an image between 1.40 m and 3.05 m basic, for a decline between 9 and 25 cm. To make our measurements, we have placed the video projector 9 cm from the wall, in order to obtain an image of 2 meters of base. There is no optical zoom and you must physically move the video projector to modify the size of the image. The optics are of good quality: the image is clear, even in the corners, and offers an excellent dive, essential to enjoy a beautiful ultra HD image. This model has an adjustable electrical focus manually via the menus and a dedicated test target. Two of the three feet are adjustable to correct the horizontality defects of the TV furniture.
