MacOS Monterey: news and compatible Mac models
On the occasion of WWDC 2021, Apple presented the new operating system that will run its computers: MacOS Monterey.

With MacOS Monterey, Apple wished to continue the work started with MacOS Big on (released last year) and strengthen the universality of its environment by facilitating the transfer of functionalities from one device to another, whether it is mobile or desktop. The new operating system will be available from this fall.
We take stock of the features and innovations of MacOS Monterey.
Universal Control: Multi-screen with all your devices
Universal Control is the main novelty of MacOS Monterey. It is intended for people who have several Apple environmental devices. It allows you to connect an iMac, MacBook and iPad at the same time, and control them with a single keyboard and a mouse. To switch from one screen to another, no configuration is necessary: just position the devices nearby and slide the mouse at the end of one to go to the other.
Universal Control therefore allows you to write a message in your iPad with the keyboard of your MacBook for example. You can also slide and drop files from one device to another.
Safari: makeover and new features
Safari, Apple’s web browser, has a new appearance, more contemporary and more refined. But the changes are not only on the surface. New features have been presented:

- The creation of groups of tabs,
- sharing groups of tabs (by email or on another device with the same Apple account),
- browser extensions available on the iOS version.
The other novelties of MacOS Monterey
- Airplay arrives on macOS : the screen of your Apple computers now becomes an Airplay screen to broadcast and share your videos, your music and other contents.
- Shortcuts in macOS : the functionality was so far available only on iOS. You can now create shortcuts and automated functions on your Apple computer. You can use those designed by Apple or create yours.
- Focus : to block or limit notifications on one or all of your devices for a defined time.
- Data protection : With Privacy Protection, your IP address is undetectable when you send an email. In addition, Privacy Report allows you to know which application uses your personal data. Finally, from the control center, you can know which app has connected to your microphone and receive a notification when this happens.
