Techradar Verdict

In recent years, LG has acquired the reputation of offering some of the best OLED TVs on the market and the LG CS is no exception to the rule. Combining many software improvements from the LG C2 with the design of the LG C1 frame and the LG B2 panels, the LG CS is a bit of the Frankenstein Monster of OLED TVs OLED. That said, it does not keep the quality that we are entitled to expect from the LG OLED range.

Pros

  • + Exceptional image quality
  • + An exceptional sound when it comes out of the box
  • + Fine and elegant construction

Cons

  • – There are a little reflections in the very lit rooms
  • – Not so much cheaper than the LG C2, which is superior
  • – No HDR10 support

Two -minute test

Available only in the United Kingdom, Australia and France, the LG CS is as well equipped as its LG OLED brothers and sisters (the LG C2 and the LG G2) with the same high-end attributes that allowed OLED offers LG to stand out from the competition. Borrowing the design of the frame of the LG C1 of 2021 and the LG B2 panel, LG CS which largely imitates his brother the C2 presents only one really notable exception: the absence of what LG calls the “luminosity booster”. This means that the CS does not benefit from the OLED EVO technology of the C2 and the increase in brightness of 20 % which accompanies it.

With the same Alpha A9 Gen 5 processor as its counterparts, the LG CS reaches its objectives in terms of dynamic image depth, colored precision and contrast. It is advisable to play with the different image parameters to find the right option, because the default parameter “energy saving” does not allow the LG CS to show all its power.

Fortunately, it is quite simple to navigate to these settings and play with them to find what is best suited to each, because the LG CS offers an intuitive user interface and generally easy to use. As with the previous LG OLED models, it has a remote control inspired by the Wii, which is used to control a pointer on the screen to open the settings and launch applications. Those who are not used to this control method can be caught off guard at first, but you can completely deactivate movement controls if they bother you.

For an exceptional finesse TV, the LG CS also manages to offer a native sound among the best on the market. Thanks to the AI Sound Pro and the management of Dolby Atmos, the LG CS once again imitates its brother LG C2 by offering what is called “virtual surround sound”, since the TV is capable of converting Stereo content in a 7.1.2 channels.

We place the quality of the sound of the LG GS well above many televisions and even certain bars of its most affordable, making the purchase of an additional sound bar to associate with the LG CS potentially useless for all audiophiles/cinephiles the strictest.

Players will also find many welcome advantages, such as HDMI 2 care.1 of the CS OLED (4K to 120 Hz), the response time of 1 ms and the variable refresh rates which are added to the GeForce Now of NVIDIA integrated to make the LG CS an obvious pretender under the best TV for the game.

The CS can undergo some reflections in the light rooms, but not to the point that this constitutes too much distraction. In the end, the LG CS offers excellent value for money, despite its fairly high price. It is not inexpensive enough to be considered a real economic alternative to the LG C2, but its sale price remains slightly lower, with very few concessions made. This allows the CS to stand out as a slightly more economical option for those looking for the excellence of the OLED than the best LG TV screens offer.

LG CS OLED TV: Price and availability

  • 77 inch size not available in some countries
  • Cheaper than LG C2

It is interesting to note that the LG CS is currently only available in three regions – Australia, the United Kingdom and France. And nothing indicates that it will be available in other countries.

The price of the LG CS is slightly lower than that of the LG C2, which is the TV to which the CS most resembles. Prices and size options are:

55 inches: € 1,199 (LG OLED55CS6LA)
65 inches: € 1,899 (LG OLED65CS6LA)
77 inches: € 2,799 (LG OLED77CS6LA)

LG CS OLED TV: Design

  • Very fine construction, heavy framework
  • 4x HDMI 2.1, 3x USB, EARC, Optical output, LAN
  • Robust

The LG CS OLED is, like its brother C2, of an elegant finesse, but it gives the impression of being a little more robust thanks to its reasonably heavy base, which comes in the form of three separate elements, easy to to assemble. The screen itself is not particularly light either, since the net weight of the 65 inch CS without its support is indicated by LG as being 24 kg, the support itself adding an additional 8.6 kg.

If the design of the OLED CS screen seems familiar to you, it is normal: it takes up the same external appearance as the LG C1 of 2021, which is not a bad thing in our opinion in our opinion. Thanks to its wonderfully narrow setting, the LG CS screen does not give the impression of losing centimeters, and it is fine enough for it to have a beautiful look when it is mounted on a wall.

The support itself presents a similar level of sophistication, since the silver part tilted visible from the support manages to blend into the bottom of the TV. In terms of design, it is an area in which the LG CS has a slight length on the LG C2, where the support is a little more visible.

We cannot insist too much on the finesse of the CS panel. For comparison, when we put an iPhone 13 against the slab, it had about half the depth of the iPhone. A thicker section housing the speakers and the components of the TV exceeds about two thirds of the back of the slab, but not to the point of appearing unnecessarily bulky.

In terms of connectivity options, the LG CS essentially imitates the LG C2 with four HDMI 2 ports.1 (including one with EARC), three USB ports, an optical output and LAN support. These elements are carefully housed to make the organization of cables at the back of the simple and pleasant television.

The remote control is also an element that the CS seems to have taken over from the C2, with the LG Magic Remote included, identical to the C2 remote control, with the exception of a renowned “Movies” button which allows you to access the One of LG’s streaming channels. Having been used to more square remote controls, we immediately appreciated the curved edges of the magic remote control and the feeling in hand. Additional shortcuts on the remote control include Netflix, Video and Disney+streaming services, as well as buttons for Google Assistant and Alexa, which activate the vocal control capacities of the magic remote control.

LG CS OLED: Smart TV and OS

  • Webos 22
  • Careful and simple to navigate interface

Once again, the LG CS imitates the LG C2 (and the LG G2) by offering the smart TV platform Webos 22, and the operating system is just as impressive here as on the other televisions in the 2022 range of LG.

The CS home screen is neat, pleasant and easy to browse, that you are looking to find and click on your favorite streaming platforms or to navigate to the starters of the different devices that you connected to your TV.

Like the C2, the above -mentioned magic remote control is designed for control of Wii remote control type movements, allowing users to navigate the TV menus with a pointer on the screen. This is a quick and direct way to launch applications from the television home screen, even if it should be noted that all applications do not support the pointer and that the fact of ‘Being suddenly forced to use traditional commands can be somewhat destabilizing.

By scrolling the screen a little further, you also get the “house dashboard” option, which allows you to see all your connected devices in one place and connect to other smart devices The house if you wish.

The followers of the fully integrated smart house will surely be delighted to see all their connected devices listed in one place for a simple navigation.

Unfortunately, webos 22 seems to have a boring problem with its Wi-Fi connection. The solution is relatively easy and the television remembers your connection so as not to have to ask for the password every time, but it can become frustrating when you hope to jump directly in an application to hear yourself say that you are not online.

The LG CS also offers preinstalled access to Nvidia GeForce Now, the cloud -based video game streaming platform, which can also be easily discovered via the LG CS menu. Having this option from the start is a very interesting addition, and we really enjoyed having access to our Steam library transparent via the TV, without having to connect a laptop to a HDMI port. If we take into account the support of the games by the TV, the LG CS is a competent game instructor, even if you will have to invest in a compatible Bluetooth game controller to take advantage of the care of Nvidia GeForce Now and play.

LG CS OLED: Image Quality

  • Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG
  • Colors and excellent contrast
  • No brightness booster

Without a doubt, the LG CS OLED looks like an LG OLED TV, that is to say that it offers a truly impressive and amazing display that manages to stand out even when compared to OLED screens of other large marks. However, the slab is a little too “borrowed” in its approach, since the LG CS adopts the same slab as the LG B2, which is a slight disappointment compared to screens like the LG C2.

The screen is undoubtedly the main point on which the CS OLED differs from the LG C2, because the first does not have the same Brightness Booster function as the second. This means that the lighting levels of the television cap at a luminance of approximately 20 % to that which the OLED EVO technology of the C2 can reach. This phenomenon is the most visible when looking at the LG CS screen in well -lit rooms, because the slab is subject to reflections. In general, these reflections do not constitute discomfort, but it must be taken into account.

In all other fields, the CS offers the same sublime display quality as that of C2 – corresponding to its resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, to its 10 -bit depth and its wide range of colors – which means a contrast superior, rich blacks and dynamic colors, even if they do not quite reach the levels of the C2.

As we mentioned earlier, to get the most out of the LG CS, you have to play with the different display modes offered to find the one that best suits your needs and the environment in which you watch the film. There are up to 20 different modes of which to choose up to 20, so there is undoubtedly a perfect solution for everyone, including a standard mode in addition to others such as cinema mode, filmmaker mode, vivid, optimizer play and ISF Expert settings for clear or dark parts. It is interesting to note that there is also a cricket mode, which is probably intended for racket and ball sports enthusiasts.

By testing the screen with the film as Above, So Below, the first thing we notice is the size of the image, because the narrow frame of the LG CS really allows to fully use the screen of the screen TV. The film has many dark scenes, and the settings with the ISF Bright Room parametering mode have made it possible to minimize the reflections as well as to enhance the depth of the blacks of the screen and allow the finest details to bring out in contrast , even during the day.

However, like AS Above, So Below incorporates many horror passages of the “Found Footing” type (including a trembling camera), the visual experience was even more impactful with the Game Optimizer display parameter. This caused the intrusion of a little more reflections, but has demonstrated superior stability in color reproduction despite the constant tremors of the camera.

A slight disappointment concerning the image of the CS OLED concerns its capacities with Dolby Vision, which appeared quite vague. This does not make Dolby Vision content completely impossible to look at, but we expected more vibrant colors than those we have obtained.

In addition, the CS OLED takes up the game characteristics of the LG C2, in particular the same 4K resolution and the same capacities of 120 frames per second, as well as a response time of 1 ms and significant gaming functions such as rates variable refreshment and low automatic latency mode. Other advantages are compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync and AMD Freesync Premium technologies. By twinning it with a PS5, we could see a difference in the way the CS managed to adapt to the graphic outing of the console and to raise the gaming experience to make it as “Next-Gen” as The last PlayStation console must be.

It is slightly disappointing that the LG CS (like the LG G2) does not offer the management of HDR10+ at this price level, and we have noticed a slight blooming from time to time, which requires playing with the parameters of the display mode so as not to suffer from an overly grainy scaling. Fortunately, the ease of navigation in the CS menu means that the adjustment of these settings is simple if you hope to get the best in your image.

LG CS OLED: Audio performance

  • Upmixe 2 -channel audio in 7.1.2
  • Support for Dolby Atmos
  • Sound mode options

For such a fine television, the quality of the audio of the LG CS – which produces 40 W – is simply exceptional, and even manages to exceed the quality that certain bars of its dedicated can offer. So much so that the Dolby Atmos Surround sound can really surprise you.

Surprisingly, even the voices manage to stand out clearly, the most serious sounds seeming to come next to you. By watching the recent Netflix film “We have a ghost”, for example, the particularly serious and deep voice of actor Anthony Mackie seemed to come directly next to us thanks to the elevation that gives him the care Dolby Atmos of the CS and the intuitive Ai Sound Pro.

AI Sound Pro uses the power of the Alpha A9 Gen 5 processor to adapt the sound to standard 7.1.2 and integrate spatial recognition in order to adapt the sound of the CS to your environment. If this does not suit you, the LG CS OLED also offers a number of different sound modes to help you find the right adjustment, with Clear Voice Pro, an option for content whose dialogues are particularly difficult to hear. Among the other modes offered, let us quote the standard mode, as well as cinema modes, cricket (sports), music, game optimizer and the aforementioned AI Sound pro mode.

Audio is not without limits, however. To higher volumes, it may seem a little narrow, and the contents with a more detailed soundtrack can lose a little loyalty. This is not surprising, because the audio native of a television will always find it difficult to reach the level of the best bars of his. Nevertheless, the quality of the audio offered by the native LG CS is far beyond expectations and once again imitates the LG C2 by offering one of the best native sounds of all the televisions that we can buy Today.

Should I buy it ?

Buy it if.

You want a high -end OLED image quality
The LG CS is an OLED TV in every sense of the word, offering the same excellent contrast levels, dynamic colors and depth that we expect from LG OLED TVs.

You want a real smart television
Many televisions present themselves as “smart televisions”, but the LG CS is really a TV that deserves this title, with its interface which offers easy navigation, the management of Google and Alexa vocal assistants, a variety of options Impressive to adapt the sound and the image to your needs and an exceptional ability to adapt to your content in an instant.

You want a partner of choice for your latest generation console.
The LG CS – Like the LG C2 and the LG G2 – offers players a lot, in particular thanks to a series of support functions and the inclusion of bonuses such as the NVIDIA GeForce NOW service integrated.

Do not buy it if.

You are short of money
It may be cheaper at the recommended sale price than the LG C2 and G2, but the LG CS OLED is not cheap, and even if you pay for superior quality, it is only one meager comfort if your budget is tight.

You need a smaller screen
The LG CS is available in three sizes, the smallest being its 55 -inch screen. If it’s too big for your space, you will have to look elsewhere.

You are addicted to HDR10 techno+.
Like his brothers and sisters LG OLED, the CS does not offer HDR10 support+. This will probably not be an obstacle for the majority of people, but if this counts for you, the CS will not be the right option.
