JITENSHA is a French company founded in 2017 and specializing in the manufacture of muscle and electric bikes. Its catalog is now made up of three models: a single speed (one speed), a Two Speeds (two speeds) and an electric launched at the end of 2018, which also benefits from a transmission to a report.
The brand has a workshop in Annecy in which each JITENSHA is tested. Production is in tense flows, since everything is designed on demand. Fandroid had fun with the obviously trendy Jitensha, which emphasizes lightness and a unique look that clearly does not go unnoticed.

JITENSHA Tokyo Design
Unique in the electric bike landscape. The look of the JITENSHA has something special in the first and in the twentieth look. With each glance, the same feeling: what a beauty. Our test model is adorned with chrome color and aluminum finish which brings it delicious visual uniformity.
One of the great forces of Jitensha is the level of ultra -driven personalization integrated into the purchasing experience. Two types of frames (closed or open), three sizes for the Tokyo version (open frame) or seven colors (chrome, white, black, matcha, copper, concrete, kuri). Copper, seen in the store, is exquisite.
There are also two types of finishes (black or aluminum), six stools (three in series and three brooks at 130 euros in black, brown and camel color) and four handlebars (Bullhorn, Mustache, Race and Loweris) which offer driving positions different to reach the maximum number of users according to their preferences.

But back on topic. The Electric Jitensha plays the sobriety card: the whole is clean, fine and pleasant to observe. Brake cable passages do not spoil the view and are even relatively discreet. The color association between the handles, the tires and the saddle brings visual harmony.
The brand has also taken a particular care in terms of finishes: the end of the handles is affected by a small metal tip where the names of the model (Paris, Tokyo) and the brand have been encrusted and the brand. Without any suspended fork or saddle, the cycle captures all the asperities of the road and transmits a large amount of vibrations in your arms and your body. Clearly: you feel the slightest bump. This is an element to consider if comfort is one of your purchasing criteria.
If the saddle was relatively well suited to my buttocks at the level of the shape, the embarrassment which results from it after a trip of 20 minutes – after 30 minutes, you will feel the journey – is real.

Where the JITENSHA stands out – spoiler above-, it is obviously on its featherweight of 13 kilos. Where a lot of VAE sail around 20 kilos, if not anymore.
The manufacturer makes a appreciated little feat here. The weight is particularly concentrated at the rear, in the module bringing together the battery and the engine. This allows you to climb it on a few floors (you will be breathless after 4 floors, but it is achievable) to the strength of your arms.
Let’s say that the task is immediately much simpler than with more imposing templates. Porter it to seven floors on stupid stairs is probably more delicate, take it into account.
With a length of about 162 centimeters, the JITENSHA can interfere in diagonal in an elevator of medium or large size. Its very good turning radius allows you to angle your handlebars to gain a nice amount of space in smaller elevators. And, at worst case, switching it back remains a breeze given its fame weight at the front.
Equipment: the strict minimum
Where we could really tick, it is at the level of the equipment provided as standard. The Jitensha is not the most generous, he who wants to play it completely dusted, again to pull his weight downwards. Mudguards ? It will be necessary to pay 70 euros as an option, as an example. It’s a shame, because it is an essential for the city – the bottom of my back and my bag still remember it.

Fortunately, the JITENSHA provides all compulsory security equipment, such as a doorbell, catadiopters and front and rear lamps. On the other hand, we must ignore a crutch.
Regarding the baskets, you have the choice between two models, both in Paris and the Tokyo, for an oscillating sum from 90 to 120 euros each time. Overall, the electric jitensha offers the strict minimum and could have made a little effort to install standard guards.
JITENSHA TOKYO TIMED TECHNOLOGIES
The JITENSHA is devoid of any screen, generally used to follow its appearance, the level of assistance used, but also and above all the percentage of autonomy remaining. To access this last data, you have to go to the Bitride Connect application – provided by Zehus, its partner – available on Android and iOS.
Above, you will come across your main dashboard, where there is a function to block the rear wheel (but not completely) as a safety system, your total mileage, a kilometric counter that you can put to zero, the percentage of remaining battery and the different assistance modes.



In total, four assistance modes are available: muscle mode (without assistance, therefore), Eco, Turbo Custom and Turbo. We will come back to their skills in the conduct part.

Overall, the application is relatively primary and above all useful to consult your battery. The bicycle also records the latest assistance mode used and keeps it on the next trip. It therefore does not require new configuration with each new trip. This is a good point here.

JITENSHA TOKYO CONDUCT
The JITENSHA is definitely a city bike with which you will like to move from point A to point B. In addition to the driving pleasure he gives-we will come back to this later-it is intended for relatively smooth bitumen and not to the small stuck and irregular paths, unless you like vibrations and jolts.
The low -handed handlebars that we used reassures us in this observation. The handlebars is the element that exceeds the most of a bicycle, in the direction of the width. From its size depends your ability to sneak between cars or exceed other cyclists on a narrow track. Here, the JITENSHA offers impressive capacities.

Its 49.5 centimeters handlebar is a considerable asset for overruns and maneuvers in more crazy places. As a comparison, that of the Trek FX+, Cowboy 4 ST and Nakamura E-Crossover V makes respectively 62, 57 and 65 centimeters. So we are dealing with a small champion in the category.
We are talking here in the name of the Lowrisal handlebars: for the other models offered by the brand, difficult to say.
How to turn on the JITENSHA electric bike engine ?
If you want to take advantage of the electric assistance, two methods are available to you to light the engine.

- When stopped: run the wheel three times in a vacuum. A green light on the engine will then light up. Go to the application, which will automatically connect to the bike, then press ” Touch this icon to activate the engine »;
- By driving: reaching the speed of 10 km/h and retropedaler for three seconds. After this stage, you will feel electric assistance.
Obviously, the second method is the most practical, although it is necessary to drive up to 10 km/h to enjoy the benefits of the engine. The first technique is however binding if you want to consult your autonomy before a journey, since it is necessary to lift the rear part of the cycle – the heaviest – and turn the wheel every time.
This can be tedious if you are one of the people wishing to consult your remaining radius of action before each departure.
A real driving pleasure
The electric JITENSHA (in its Lowriser Configuration) offers singular driving pleasure. Its 2nd generation Zehus all in one engine is supported by an amazing rotation sensor and maximum torque of 40 Nm. Amazing, because it is reactive, which is generally the prerogative of torque sensors.
Race results: latency between the first pedal strokes and the transmission of electric assistance is minimal. It is at least much lower than on the other VAE equipped with a rotation sensor. This observation applies as well for the starts as for the covers. Please note: the degree of responsiveness does not arrive at a torque sensor either.

Another positive point: the good balance of the gear. Whether at low or high speed, there is always room for ” type »In the pedals and climb at 30 km/h without the slightest ground effect. As a reminder, the electric Jitensha is only entitled to a mono-speed transmission. This famous point of equilibrium is therefore very important: it is here controlled.
On the pleasure of driving in itself, you will be served. The JITENSHA is playful, fast and agile, and registers in the turns in an incisive manner without it being feared that the tires are hidden if we lean a little too much. It’s a bike with which you like to go fast, with which you will like to give beautiful pedal strokes to reach 30 km/h.
Its good maneuverability makes it possible to dodge with ease both small obstacles and other users, in case of danger.
“Four” assistance modes
Four assistance modes are available. One of them is to cut the audience and pedal the strength of his legs. If you like efforts, why not use it on dish – as a rise, the effort is real -, but if not, favor at least one of the other modes offered.
The ECO draws 50 % of the power of the engine to propel you at a look of 25 km/h. So you are always able to climb at such speed, but it simply takes more time. To save battery, this can be a solution, but the VAE is not the most dynamic.
The turbo custom mode is interesting: by default, it adjusts the motor power to 75 %, but you can then refine it as you see fit. Regenerative braking can also be configured. Finally, turbo mode pushes performance – power and regenerative braking – at their maximum, by default.
I mainly used Turbo mode mainly. But it is quite possible to fall back on the Eco mode if you are not in a hurry.
Skate brakes … supported by a Kers system
Let’s admit: the presence of skate brakes on an electric bike sold 2590 euros is a disappointment. At this price, we expect biting hydraulic disc brakes, progressive and capable of guaranteeing you optimal braking quality for urgent situations.
In fact, the brakes of the Jitensha are not bad. They allow you to stop at relatively short distances. Just, over time, eraser will wear as much as efficiency. It will therefore be necessary to change them. But finally, the JITENSHA is much smarter than that thanks to its KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) system).

This is an energy recovery system, which is activated when we retropedal. Consequently, a slight progressive braking will activate. This type of system is relevant, since it is quite possible to brake until stopping by anticipating a little. By the way, this allows you to use the skate brakes less, and therefore preserve them.
This KERS technology is very easy to tame and include in your user habits. Finally, this is a system that we constantly use to recover a bit of energy while slowing down gently.
JITENSHA Tokyo Autonomy
The electric Jitensha relies on a battery of 173 Wh able to provide a theoretical autonomy of 35 km in turbo mode, and up to 60 km in Eco mode. In our case, turbo mode was the most used during our trips. To calculate our autonomy, we have noted each distance corresponding to each displacement.
We have also followed the remaining percentage of autonomy and the mileage available from the application. At the end of our autonomy cycle, we noted a ray of action barely 30 kilometers, using regenerative braking without any moderation. Which, let’s admit it, is a bit fair for a VA sold 2590 euros.
By way of comparison, the cowboy 4 ST (2790 euros) is able to travel almost 70 km in a single load, against 66 km for the Nakamura E-Crossover V (1,599.99 euros). In short, at the same price slice, there is better for slightly more expensive, even more affordable. It is important to know it, unless autonomy is not an important criterion for you.

In my use case, and mixing telework and trips to the office, I had to go through the recharge box at the end of the week, just before the weekend. If you are a more diligent user or user with daily journeys over 10 km, a second load session will be imposed on you.
For those who love small efforts, you can always switch to Eco mode, even mechanical mode, to prolong your autonomy. Do you really want it when you buy an electric bike ? This is the whole question, even if the writing has its little opinion. But after all, why not.
Regarding recharging, count three beautiful hours to find 100 % battery. To connect it, just remove a small tip on the side of the engine/battery module. Nothing too complicated. We regret on the other hand that the accumulator is not removable. But with a weight of 13 kilos, the bike can be worn on several floors.
