IPhone SE (3rd generation, 2022): technical sheet, price and reviews
The iPhone always has its 4.7 -inch Retina (LCD) screen (1334 x 750 pixels at 326 pp) in 16: 9 format. It benefits from the True Tone function, which adapts the white balance to the lighting of your environment. Even if Apple is one of the last manufacturers to put a flat LCD panel on a mid-range device, it has little to envy some of its small comrades under OLED.

- The available space is lower and varies depending on many factors. A standard configuration requires approximately 12 to 17 GB of space, in particular for the new features of iOS 15 and the Apple apps which can be deleted. These Apple apps use approximately 4.5 GB of space. You can delete them, then reinstall them by downloading them from the App Store. The storage capacity is likely to change according to the version of the software, the settings and the iPhone model.
- Dimensions and weight vary depending on the configuration and manufacturing process.
- The iPhone is resistant to splash, water and dust. It was tested in the laboratory under controlled conditions and obtained the IP67 protection index defined by standard 60529 of the International Electrotechnical Commission (CEI) (maximum depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes maximum). As part of normal wear and tear, splash resistance, water and dust can decrease over time. Do not try to recharge a wet iPhone. iPhone SE (3rd generation, 2022): technical sheet, price and reviews

Third representative of the range, the iPhone was released in 2022 overall takes up the codes of the previous version. We are talking about a small format here but with big muscles and a more attractive price than all the other Apple mobiles. The technical characteristics of the product, however, are worth studied in detail so as not to miss anything from its value proposal: decryption.
iPhone SE 64 GB 2022 at the best price basic price: € 529
Always the same design
To start, the iPhone SE 3 is therefore a compact smartphone being given its dimensions 138.4 mm high for 67.3 mm wide and only 7.3 mm thick. Its weight, meanwhile, is limited to 144 grams. It is not much, but such characteristics give him a definite advantage: he enters almost all the pockets and suits the smallest hands of hands.
Always on the design side, the third generation iPhone SE is currently available in three colors: red, white or black. The first reversing part of its profits to the fight against AIDS and tuberculosis, via partner associations.
Regarding the materials, Apple has chosen a glass back and front face while the frame around the iPhone is made of aluminum, without much. The manufacturer also offers a certain water resistance with IP67 certification, guaranteeing immersion up to one meter deep and for thirty minutes without danger.
Unlike high -end iPhone, the size/screen ratio is quite low here because the home button has been kept with Touch ID just below. Advantage: no notch.

High -flying performance
Let’s say it without hesitation: the strength of the iPhone SE of 2022 is its chip. It is indeed an Apple A15 owner processor, the same that we also find under the hood of the iPhone 13 Pro. The quantity of RAM is not equivalent, since here the technical characteristics noted by dismantling the mobile only reveals 4 GB of RAM.
iPhone SE 64 GB 2022 at the best price basic price: € 529
The whole is there to vigorously propel iOS 15, operating system of the iPhone SE 3 also compatible with its predecessor released approximately two years earlier. This software offers many basic applications such as the safari browser, particularly fluid but still far behind Chrome in terms of features, or the different services available with Apple One (TV+, Arcade, Music, etc.).
The graphics card, on the other hand, has four hearts and allows you to play many video games without Lag. The iPhone SE 3 may however heat a little, and the screen refreshment rate does not reach 120 Hz as on iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Technical characteristics of the battery
According to the official technical characteristics published by Apple, the third generation iPhone SE is able to keep up to fifteen hours in a row in video reading. A reduced duration of five hours as soon as the streaming has been carried out from an online source. And with regard to music, the proposed autonomy reaches fifty hours.
But all this is above all on paper. Indeed, our complete test of the iPhone SE 2022 has proven that relatively classic use makes it fall in battery harbor to sixteen or seventeen hours depending on the day. Obviously, these are our own estimates and if they differ from those of the manufacturer it is because its own laboratory tests are carried out under different conditions.

Finally, for recharging, users have the right to two different solutions with the iPhone SE 3. The first goes through the Lightning port, while the second uses induction at the rear.
A screen too small ?
If the format of the iPhone SE 3 is interesting for some, its retina screen may however put more than one. Indeed, with its 4.7 small inches diagonal, it offers only a limited surface for gaming or viewing series and films but without rounded corners. The resolution, from 1,334 per 750 pixels, however makes it possible to display good quality images.

iPhone SE 3 © Iphon.Fr
In full sun, the 625 brightness nits are sufficient. Moreover, the third generation iPhone SE slab is therefore quite “limited”: do not expect to work there in multitasking without seriously losing productivity. The features of iOS 15 are all there, but it is therefore quite difficult to exploit them to their maximum in some cases.
Finally, note that the technology used here is LCD: hello energy consumption, much heavier than with OLED. While there are at the same price, with other more advantageous technical characteristics, in other brands.
iPhone SE 64 GB 2022 at the best price basic price: € 529
No face id
At the front of the iPhone SE, no TrueDepth sensor or easy recognition. The manufacturer, instead, preferred to honor us with a fingerprint scanner installed under the home button: this is Touch ID, whose data is encrypted for the sake of security.
At the top of the screen, the front camera is limited to seven megapixels with an f/2 opening.2. The whole can film in 1080p up to 120 images per second, and the image quality offered goes to HDR. The technical characteristics of the iPhone SE 3 for the photo are much better at the back, since we find here a lens of twelve megapixels. This has the advantage of being able to capture clichés in large angle with an f/1 opening.8 and stabilization ois.

The third generation iPhone also incorporates a flash to immortalize night scenes, powered by LEDs. As for the video, it goes up to 4K at 60 frames per second or 1080p @240 fps always for the dorsal module.
Communications
The iPhone SE 2022 is the first in its collection to be compatible with the 5G network, which allows it to reach theoretical flows of several hundred MB per second. Perfect for downloading series before taking the plane. The official technical characteristics mention other assets on the connectivity side, including Airplay to read its music on third-party speakers or Airdrop to share files very quickly via Wi-Fi.
Of course Bluetooth is also there, to come and pair in the iPhone SE 3 of accessories such as AirPods Pro or an Apple Watch Series 7.
Conclusion: we don’t change a winning team
With the latest edition of its iPhone SE, Apple does not really surprise us. But this is not a defect: the technical characteristics of this mobile such as 5G or the A15 Bionic chip are real assets and limit the slowdowns as much as possible. What’s more, we are here on a price much lower than iPhone 13 since we must only pay 529 euros to afford the mobile. A price that climbs to 579 euros for 128 GB or 699 euros for 256 GB.

iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 13 © Press Citron.net
For us, the iPhone SE 3 is therefore clearly the best choice at Apple if you have a reduced budget but you do not want to ignore iOS 15. A choice that can be very judicious when the rest of its equipment is also signed Cupertino: Mac, headphones, etc.
In conclusion, let us also recall that the third generation iPhone SE is one of the few on the market to offer such technical characteristics in a compact case. However, it turns out that many users are looking for a Passe-Partout smartphone and which is not likely to exceed their pocket at the mercy of thieves.
Apple iPhone SE 5G test (2022): a compact not necessarily to follow
Two years after the second generation revamped, Apple launches the third version of its iPhone SE. A version that modernizes the interior without touching outside to make it a low -format power bomb at the lowest price for an apple smartphone.

Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022)May 23, 2023 05/23/2023 • 14:27
Apple drew the third generation of its iPhone SE. Successful model at its launch in 2016 with its powerful iPhone offer in a popular design (the one of the iPhone 5S) and smaller than the models of the moment (iPhone 6s and 6s Plus), it always follows the same recipe , but in a different context.
In 2022, smartphones screens saw even larger and the iPhone is positioned against the tide. Two years after a second generation revamped, he does not revolutionize the concept and is more like an update than a new proposal. Does he always have a special place ? We had a long time with him to judge.

We take the same and start again. The iPhone SE 2022 is the clone of the iPhone SE 2020, itself a twin of the iPhone 6/7/8… Two years later, without surprise, the new smartphone at a more affordable Apple price takes the same design that his predecessor. Because the difference is inside.

On the left, the iPhone SE 2020 – On the right, the iPhone SE 2022 // Source: Frandroid – Anthony Wonner

On the left, the iPhone SE 2020 – On the right, the iPhone SE 2022 // Source: Frandroid – Anthony Wonner
So, taking it in hand – even more if you usually have an iPhone 13 pro max like me – you will have the impression of having jumped in the past. The original design of 2014, many times imitated by competition, has pretty outdated tunes now. But it is above all there, and it is undoubtedly the main motivation of Apple, to meet various needs of a less technophile audience or simply in search of the essential: a compact model, with the fingerprint reader ( For fear that the data run away with the camera …), and what to meet all the needs of everyday life, for many years.
The iPhone therefore has the merit (or madness) to be a little alone on its proposal. Here we have a small format smartphone (138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm) and featherweight (144 g). A template which is quite close to that of the iPhone 13 Mini, but with a smaller retina screen (4.7 inches against 5.4). Because the latter is surrounded by the old very thick borders compared to the latest iPhone, with its Touch ID impression reader on the Home button below. This multifunction button is still used to unlock the iPhone thanks to digital recognition while allowing a return to the reception when your iPhone se is active and many other uses whose validation of payment. And unlocking is still so responsive.

On the top of the facade, the camera is there, right next to the stereo speaker. On the right side, the standby output button takes a position on the top just above the slot for the SIM card. On the left, the mood or activation button as well as the +/- volume buttons occupy the length.

The lower slice, in elegant aluminum as on the whole outline, welcomes the Lightning charging port still present as well as the stereo speaker and the microphones. But do not look for a jack for your headphones, it has definitely disappeared since the previous generation. Do not look for headphones in the box either. As the legislation now authorizes it, Apple no longer provides it, no more than a jack-lightning adapter.

Note that Apple has not changed the names of its colors only for the form. The tones are no longer the same, even if, overall, you still have the choice between black, white and red. The now (product) red in our possession takes the red of the iPhone XR, darker than that of the iPhone SE 2020.
On the back, Apple remains faithful to its simple photo sensor accompanied by the flash. In 2022, it is a choice always strange, even Google having returned to this point with its pixel. The glass covering is the same as that found on the back of iPhone 13 and is the most resistant on the market. On the other hand, on the facade, you will not find the famous ceramic shield ultra -resistant which remains the prerogative of high -end models. The screen is promised very resistant, not the most resistant in the house. The whole displays the IP67 certification (immersion up to 1 m for 30 minutes).

The iPhone will therefore continue to please those who want a small format. Here, everything can still be done with a hand, from navigation to the click at the end of the thumb on the screen. It’s very nice. Accustomed to very large screens for many years, I obviously find it a little disconcerting in terms of the reading surface or even viewing video, but I admit that the reduced size is very pleasant in transport to read its emails or take a quick look at info.
If you are looking for a smartphone that slides without difficulty in your pocket, rounded enough to hold in hand and not escape, it is there. And honestly, we do not fix the presence of borders to use, even if the very large screens have now pushed the limits of the surfaces.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) screen: no OLED, but a good calibration
The iPhone always has its 4.7 -inch Retina (LCD) screen (1334 x 750 pixels at 326 pp) in 16: 9 format. It benefits from the True Tone function, which adapts the white balance to the lighting of your environment. Even if Apple is one of the last manufacturers to put a flat LCD panel on a mid-range device, it has little to envy some of its small comrades under OLED.

To find that the iPhone SE 2022 touch screen was the same as that of its 2020 acolyte, we also passed it under our colorimetric probe using Calman software. And the results are almost identical.
The smartphone offers maximum brightness of 530 cd/m² (against 520 cd/m² observed on the previous one) for a contrast slightly lower than that of the iPhone SE 2020 (1418: 1 against 1500: 1). The color temperature is always as excellent (6528 k) and close to the ideal. The average deltae on DCI-P3 is 2.82, below the perceptible difference by the human eye estimated at 3.

Here we have an excellently well calibrated and very good quality screen, even if it can seem a little light in terms of its definition. You can enjoy it from all angles and in many situations. Nevertheless, it is not the brightest of the screens and, outdoors by strong sun, you risk seeing a lot of reflections and it will be better to position itself well in front of the slab. Certainly the OLED screens of the iPhone 13 are a big notch above, but for its value for money, the iPhone SE 5G is far from having to be ashamed and it will be very good for many users in order to enjoy the photos like Videos in good conditions.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Software: all the advantages of iOS
The iPhone happens with iOS 15.4, the latest version of the Apple operating system available when it comes out. It is thus possible to take advantage of the widgets to have certain information more visible on the home screen, to manage a concentration mode to stay focused on your work without being disturbed, to settle notifications as you wish, etc. The latest innovations like Live Text which allows you to add a text photographed on an image to a note, an email, a doc, to translate it too. Even Shareplay, to share the viewing of a film live with your friends or listening to musical, is accessible.
We also have an excellent presentation of iOS 15, especially for the attention of those who would discover the Apple environment for the first time.

Compared to recent iPhone with notch, gesture gymnastics is quite different and the environment of the iPhone is adapted to it. The Home button brings you from a click to the reception when a double-click displays the different windows of the open apps. You can then slide your finger upwards to close them or run the kiosk to return to that of your choice and click on it to open it. And a light double support on the button lowers the top of the screen to better reach the information located on the top in case you still find it too large.
There is no restriction on the use of the iPhone SE 5G compared to iPhone 13 models. He fully benefits from the Apple Services ecosystem (Apple Music, Apple TV+, Podcasts, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+…), but it is true, to benefit on a reduced screen, which will not necessarily be practical for Video services.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Performances: Outrancière Power
This is one of the big improvements in this 3rd generation: the iPhone SE 5G is propelled by the A15 Bionic chip, the most powerful currently available on iPhone and undoubtedly on the market, in the configuration that drives the iPhone 13 with its six CPU hearts and four GPU cores. Compared to its predecessor, the GAP is incommensurate.

Everything is simple with an iPhone Se. No mobile video games resist him, whether optimized on Apple Arcade or for everyone on the App Store (Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact…). If it was not the small size of the screen and the high probability that your fingers finally block the view, you would have a perfect playing device in terms of capacity.
For everything else, navigate, type, design notes with photos, paintings and other elements that can overload, this is done in a very fluid way.

To be honest, in terms of performance, the iPhone SE 5G is on paper one of the war machines on the market. But he does not draw 50 % of his possibilities. Its greatest advantage is elsewhere: with such a debauchery of power available, it is ready to last a few years and updates system. It is above all a long -term investment.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Camera: can we still survive with a single sensor ?
What can we hope for miraculous with a single photo sensor in 2022 ? This is the question to ask with the iPhone SE 5G if you plan to transform yourself into a photographer thanks to him. Apple remains faithful to its simple Grand-Angle sensor of 12 Mpx (f/1.8) on the back, accompanied by a True Tone Quadri-Led flash and reinforced stabilization. At the front, we find the 7 Mpx sensor (f/2.2). This is essentially the hardware baggage of the device. But it is on the advantages of his A15 Bionic chip that Apple rests to improve his photo.

We are told about computational photography that is enormously based on the AI of the chip, on the ISP capable of managing the skin shades individually for a better rendering in group photo as in video or even reducing the noise in low light. The camera also benefits from the Smart HDR 4 which gives a more precise and fine global rendering on colors and contrast especially when Deep Fusion refines textures and details.

It must be admitted that with the presence of a single sensor, these are weight support. But not enough to take care for example the recent kinematic mode in video (the passage from the rear to the foreground of the blur/development according to the subject targeted), but on the other hand, the photographic style function and its personalization of tones is there to refine your portrait photos in particular.

The front camera also progresses for selfies and take advantage of the two technologies to improve the final rendering.

Without being stunning, the photo of the iPhone is honorable. You don’t have a zoom and you will have to go by hand to get closer to a point. Do not clearly abuse it otherwise the details will jump to you in the face, especially in the photos of people.

At night, there is however improvement compared to the iPhone SE Previous. Thank you the progress of the chip. However, we do not reach what was able to do the Pixel 3 with a single photo sensor and the power of Google technology behind. Nevertheless, the A15 Bionic chip makes the iPhone benefit from its substantive work as soon as the brightness decreases. However, you will not have a night mode as efficient as on the iPhone 13 and there are still halos on light sources as well as a lack of details. But the whole is rather successful.

On the video side, the iPhone SE 5G can film up to 4K at 24, 30 or 60 IPS and benefits from a very good quality optical stabilizer. And the result is rather honest, especially for your videos with family or friends, even in low light.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Autonomy: best but always a bit short
Let’s be clear, this is not the strong point of the iPhone SE 5G. As often, Apple clearly did not put the most enduring battery on the market and as often counts on its optimization to get out of it. It is therefore on the prowess of iOS 15 that its use is based a lot. If the smartphone is confined to a day in rather muscular use (3 hours of video streaming, gourmet mobile game, navigation and email reading, benchmarks, photo and listening to music streaming), it is With a few percentages that you will finish the day, forcing to recharge the night during.
Compared to the levels affected by the latest iPhone 13, the iPhone SE 5G is clearly a small player. But with a similar small template, like the iPhone 12 mini or 13 mini, we do not expect miracles. Or rather, it is not intended for large screen consumers. You will spend the day, but hardly more. If you are a compulsive user of your smartphone, forget the iPhone SE 5G. But we noticed that after several days of use, his behavior is evolving. The first days, its autonomy tended to reduce itself faster. But after a week, he learned to better understand our uses. This does not transform it into a competition stupid endurance level, but the neural engine of the A15 Bionic chip understands how you use the device and then knows how to optimize its operation.

On the other hand, there are some interesting points. Starting from 100 % battery, we launched it on a Netflix film. In 30 minutes of viewing, he had lost… 0 % battery ! After an hour, 4 %. It then accelerated to fall at 14 % after 2 hours. The film completed (2:20), we had 83 % autonomy left. But it is especially during the night that his behavior was rather strange: 10 % of the battery flew without screaming the first night, a little less the second when we had not made a film this time just before. For the rest, at stake or in musical listening, no strange behavior to report. Overall, the device gains a little independently thanks to the A15 Bionic chip, but the very possible small capacity of the battery still brakes it a little compared to what we hoped.
In recharging, the iPhone SE 5G improves slightly. By making it from 0 % remaining autonomy, we won 55 % in 30 minutes, 75 % in 45 minutes. After an hour, we had recovered 86 % battery. It is now necessary to count almost 1.5 hours to reach 100 % with a 20 W charger. In charge by induction – but it does not benefit from Magsafe technology only on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series -, it’s a little slower.
A sector adapter that you will now have to have at home, because Apple has not provided it for several years and has only slipped the Lightning cable to USB-C in the box.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Network & Communication: The transition to 5G
One of the reasons for being of this iPhone SE 5G (3rd generation) is the arrival of 5G within it. It is still difficult to really judge its connection speed, but you will be at least ready for a world where 5G will be available everywhere and really effective.

But Apple has already granted it a very useful function to limit its effects on global autonomy: Smart Data mode. This automatically turns the smartphone between the frequency bands according to your activity so as not to consume more than necessary. If your iPhone is on standby or you are on poorly delicious applications that do not require a connection, the device will re -turn in 4G. If the battery falls under 20 % of autonomy, the iPhone is also abandoning 5G for less energy -consuming modes. Likewise if 5G is a better connection than Wi-Fi, the apple smartphone is able to automatically change connectivity.
It is also compatible with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11AX) with MIMO 2 × 2 and Bluetooth 5.0. It also has NFC technology to be able to use in particular Apple Pay for contactless payment or cards stored in the Card app, and with a capacity to support an ESIM card.
Apple iPhone SE 5G (2022) Price and release date
The iPhone SE 2022 is available in midnight (black) color, stellar light (bright white) and (product) red (red). It starts at 529 euros in version 64 GB, an increase of 40 euros compared to the 2020 model. It is also available in 128 GB at 579 euros and 256 GB of storage for 699 euros.
Note all the same that at Apple, for 639 euros, you can have the iPhone 11 in 128 GB and get a larger template with a liquid retina screen always LCD, but of better quality, and a double photo sensor. Not to mention the iPhone XR with a screen also liquid retina of 6.1 ″, but only one photo sensor on the back, and which can be found at very affordable prices. Certainly these two models offer much less powerful fleas (respectively A13 Bionic and A12 Bionic).
