iPhone SE 2020: our opinion, the price and its technical sheet
Four years after the first iPhone SE, Apple returns in 2020 with a second generation of its model is. The latter is always positioned as the cheapest iPhone in its range. If the first version of the product released in 2016 took up the chassis of the iPhone 5S, the iPhone SE 2020 looks like the iPhone 8. We will give you on this page our opinion on the iPhone SE 2020 and all the new features.
According to internal sources to the brand, Apple would like to sell between 20 and 25 million of its new product, while waiting for the release of its next iPhone 12. If we are far from the 75 million that the brand aims to sell for its iPhone 12, this remains a substantial figure. Released in full containment, the new iPhone SE is only available for purchase on the Internet.

Available from € 489, the new iPhone SE is the cheapest smartphone in the Apple range. It is much cheaper than the iPhone 8 it replaces, but inevitably, its design takes up the inheritance of the old model, with its button centered on the bottom of the device.
On this page, we will look at all the characteristics of the phone and give you our opinion on the iPhone SE 2020. You will know more on prices, differences with previous iPhone SE and iPhone 8, on the presence of an A13 chip and WiFi 6, as well as on cameras of the smartphone.
iPhone SE 64 GB at the best price basic price: € 489
iPhone SE 128 GB at the best price basic price: € 539
iPhone SE 256 GB at the best price basic price: € 659
Design of the new iPhone SE 2020
The new iPhone SE 2020 is a replacement for the iPhone 8, but also an inheritance. On the design part, the observation is all the more true, but that was the price to pay for Apple in order to offer a more accessible front door in the IOS universe.
Before entering our impressions and our opinion on the iPhone Sen below, you can consult our video test here:
Screen size and performance
Let’s start our iPhone SE 2020 review by evoking its screen. With its 4.7 ″ diagonal, it is one of its biggest points in common with the iPhone 8. Inevitably, for the price of the smartphone, it does not have OLED technology. The latter rather takes up an LCD Retina screen with the resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels. If it may seem weak, it is important to note that it is something near the same characteristics of the iPhone 11.
Spared by the OLED screen of the iPhone 11 Pro, the iPhone 11 has a 6.1 ″ LCD screen which offers exactly the same pixel ratio by inch as the iPhone SE 2020: 326 ppi. Note that the resolution of the iPhone 11 is far from disappointing – it will be the same on the iPhone Se. If the screen is the same as the iPhone 11, the rendering remains much less premium.

IPhone Se 2020 design
The screen is not “edge to edge”, and it is on this point that Apple well marks a differentiation between its range of iPhone 11 and this iPhone Se. On the lower part, there is a touch button, identical to the iPhone 8 is available and allows you to find the usual controls such as returning to the Home Menu.
On the upper part, Apple has not incorporated into Part ID sensors, which is why users will use the bottom button for digital recognition (called Touch ID at Apple). The only small difference is that instead of finding 3D touch as before, Apple has changed its technology to a new protocol called Haptic touch.
The dimensions of the iPhone are the same as those of the iPhone 8 with 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm: the case is therefore the same. Apple has decided not to resume the same compact aspect as the 4 -inch screen of the first iPhone SE, simply because its new model is based on the chassis of the iPhone 8.
It has an aluminum assembly, and its rear side is made of glass. On the sides of the iPhone SE 2020, users will be able to find the classic physical buttons of the iPhone, with a ignition button placed on the upper edge, and volume and switch keys between the ringing and silent/vibrator mode on the left side.
Apple launched its product by revealing the three different colors that will initially be launched by the brand. The iPhone SE 2020 is available in black, white, as well as red with the series of products (Product) Red, which will give part of the benefit of each sale to the World Fund and its fight against the current pandemic. Note that on this red version, the lower and upper borders of the screen are in black. The white version is completely white, and this is the one you can find in the image below in our opinion on the iPhone SE 2020.

Characteristics of the iPhone SE 2020
Here we are the technical part of this review page on the iPhone SE 2020. Although the device is not necessarily oriented for customers looking for a terminal to the best technologies, our iPhone opinion will bend over as much the new products on the device are here. Indeed, for its price lower than other models of the brand, the heritage is far from light. The new iPhone SE 2020 may put a shot on many mid -range Android devices, with which it will compete.
Almost as powerful as the iPhone 11 ?
The first novelty concerns the processor part. Apple has decided to integrate its latest CRI A13 chip, engraved in 7 Nm, which was presented when the new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 pro. This is the most powerful processor at Apple, and it is integrated into the new iPhone SE 2020.
Thus, the device will be excellent on the performance part, while the Cupertino firm can enjoy marketing smartphones with components working perfectly. The A13 chip is today the most powerful in the whole market, in front of all those of Qualcomm, Samsung or Huawei.
Some specialists wonder even if the chip will not be restrained, because the smartphone is finer than the classic high -end devices of the Apple range. Even if this was led to be the case, the iPhone SE 2020 would in no way derogate from the fact that it will be very powerful enough for the use that customers will have.
Faced with the iPhone 8, which works for its part with the A11 chip, the new iPhone SE 2020 so more power. Its cheapest version offers an internal storage volume of 64 GB, far from only 16 GB offered in 2016 the first iPhone SE. On its website, Apple also announces that the device is available in version 128 and 256 GB of internal memory. Now let’s move on to connectivity in this opinion on the iPhone SE.
No 5G, but faster wifi connectivity
Inevitably, Apple could not integrate 5G on a smartphone wanting to be “cheaper”. Especially since the Cupertino firm does not yet offer a 5G device in its range, which should make the fruit of the new features of the next iPhone 12.
In addition, we will note in our opinion iPhone SE 2020 that Apple has taken into account an improvement in the connectivity of the device by making it compatible WiFi 6. Even today, all premium smartphones are not yet equipped with this technology – up to 2.7 times faster than WiFi 5.
Another thing, Apple has recovered the possibility of joining two SIM cards in its new iPhone SE 2020, as was the case on the new iPhone 11. Users can only use one nano-sim card, but it will be possible to add an ESIM card additional. To find out more, our test of this iPhone will teach you more.
Battery and autonomy
As usual, the manufacturer does not give precise data on his battery. We can only know the power of its accumulator during the first smartphone tests. Nevertheless, the brand indicated that the iPhone SE 2020 could last up to 1 p.m. video reading. This corresponds to the data we had with the iPhone 8. The 2 smartphones may still look alike on this point.
While some brands like OnePlus still do not offer wireless recharging on all smartphones in their premium range, Apple wants iPhone users to benefit from Wireless recharge and make your new smartphone compatible. The latter will also be delivered with a 5 W wired charger, which does not change it either. It remains that the smartphone is compatible with the fast load of 18 W.
A novelty should be noted, however: Apple offers an additional battery reserve on its iPhone SE 2020 which makes it possible to operate the NFC chip of the device in an emergency. For example, if your smartphone is running out of battery, you can always continue to pay with Apple Pay for purchases such as public transport.
Water resistance
Before going into the details of the camera of this iPhone SE 2020 review, let’s talk about the water resistance of the smartphone, which also takes up the same characteristics as its predecessor. The identical assembly of the two products provides the iPhone SE 2020 with IP67 certified water resistance. Behind this label, certification means that the device can be immersed in the water, 1 meter deep and over 30 minutes, without it suffering from damage.

Camera: Portrait mode arrives
On the photo part, the iPhone SE 2020 is closed to the Portrait mode, which was not available on the iPhone 8. Users should appreciate this equipment, although the dorsal photo lens is the same 12 Mp Sony sensor offered on the previous model.
As we know, to be able to walk properly and not depend only on a software processing, this portrait mode that blurs the background needs a depth sensor. On this new iPhone SE, the equipment will not be available. Go to our next tests to find out if this portrait mode is nonetheless interesting.
On the video part, the 12 Mp sensor with its 28 mm focal length opening at f/1.8 offers a 4K resolution. At the front, the selfie sensor has the same 7 MP lens from the iPhone 8.
IPhone SE 2020 price
We have already told you as it is the information that will interest the most people here: the price of the iPhone SE 2020 set at 489 euros. At this price, the smartphone is offered with a 64 GB configuration. For more powerful versions, discover below the list of all prices:
- Version 64 GB: € 489
- 128 GB version: € 539

IPhone SE 2020 comparison (2nd generation) vs iPhone SE 2022 (3rd generation)
They look like two drops of water, but some notable differences make the iPhone SE 3 a better device than its predecessor. Comparison, to know which of this new mobile or the iPhone SE (2nd generation) is the most suitable for your needs.

The iPhone SE 2020 and 2022
What does the iPhone range offer ?
Before comparing them, let’s talk about what does not change between the second generation iPhone SE and the new. These two devices are therefore of the same collection and represent the cheapest mobiles of Apple (new). But this has a price: technical characteristics among the least supplied of the brand to the apple.
Indeed, here, users are entitled to a LCD screen of reduced size For 2022 (4.7 inches for 326 ppi only) and in Touch ID in place of the front ID. Another difference with the panoply of iPhone 13: no double or triple rear photo sensor, but a simple wide-angle lens of twelve megapixels. All in a glass and aluminum chassis certified IP67, but that it is better to protect by a shell to avoid breakage.
On the connectivity side, the recharging is made via a socket Lightning owner but it is also possible to feed the iPhone SE with induction. Finally, it should be noted that a stereo speaker is integrated at the bottom of the mobile, while Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi are there to communicate.

Game of seven differences
Performance
Now let’s start the comparison. Already, be aware that the iPhone SE 3 is propelled by a home processor: the Apple A15 Bionic chip, that we also find in the heavy goods vehicle that is the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Engraved in five nanometers, this motherboard is more effective than that of the iPhone SE 2 (7 Nm) with in particular eight hearts in addition for the Neural Engine. According to the manufacturer, the graphics of the iPhone SE 3 are 1.2x faster than those of the iPhone SE 2.
But that’s not all, since clever little ones also had fun dismantling the third generation iPhone SE to compare its RAM with that of the iPhone SE 2020. Result : 4 GB of RAM against 3 GB For the oldest model.

iPhone se 2nd generation © iphon.Fr
Finally, know that the iPhone SE 2022 is also equipped with a modem 5g. This is designed by a third-party brand but allows you to reach much faster theoretical flows than for the second generation iPhone SE. However, it is unlikely that you are making the difference, this kind of score interesting especially professionals. However, these are not really the target of the iPhone Se.
iPhone se 2 vs iPhone se 3: autonomy
Now let’s talk about the angry point: the battery. On iPhone SE 3, it is not already very large with 2,018 mAh on the clock. But for the iPhone Se 2, it’s worse: only 1,821 mah. Which results in fifteen hours of video reading for the third generation, two less compared to the first. Let us recall, however, that these are only official figures, from very selective laboratory tests. You will therefore necessarily notice differences according to your own habits.

Headphones
If the iPhone SE (3rd generation) is lighter than the iPhone SE (2nd generation), this is also the case for its box. Indeed, inside are not provided the wired headphones Earpods Included with the iPhone SE 2. And for good reason: French deputies recently voted a law which, to reduce the waste of electronic products, no longer obliges manufacturers to offer a hand-free kit.
Rest assured, however: compared to airpods, the earpods are not war machines. What’s more, it is an accessory that costs only nineteen euros in Apple Store: you hardly lose change.

What differences on the software side ?
Let’s go to the comparison of operating systems. The iPhone SE 3 is delivered with iOS 15, While the iPhone SE 2 embarks iOS 14. This means that in the first ignition, you will lack key features such as:
- Shareplay – To watch several movies with FaceTime and Apple TV+
- Concentration – to intelligently deactivate your notifications according to the times of the day
- Public transport – to find out the schedules of passage of your bus with Apple Plans
- Tabs – to better navigate between your web pages open to Safari
- Apps confidentiality reports – To find out when a developer follows you on track
- etc
To qualify, the iPhone SE 2 is still compatible with iOS 15. It will therefore be enough to update it to take advantage of all these solutions. But the laptop will be supported less, because it is older than the iPhone SE 3.

Best images on iPhone Se 3
With the APN of the iPhone SE (3rd generation) are offered three other key advantages that the iPhone SE 2 does not have, starting with Photographic styles. It is more or less a functionality similar to Instagram filters, with four predefined styles: intense contrast, lively, hot Or cold. The idea is to give a different and personalized air to the shots, which the user can customize even more depending on the tone and the color temperature.
To this, the third generation iPhone adds Deep Fusion, an artificial intelligence algorithm that treats images with a combination of several poses. Faced with the second generation iPhone SE, the results are really more attractive: judge yourself with the photo library made by our colleagues from Press-pace.net at this address, to compare with that of the iPhone SE 3.
