Four models and a new OS: Apple’s high -end mobiles are back in September 2022. The two basic editions, the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus, are already showing themselves as real commercial successes. So let’s go back to their technical sheet together ..

IPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus screens

The iPhone 14 has a screen 6.1 inches, against 6.7 inches For that of the iPhone 14 Pro Plus. Each slab offers True Tone technology that adapts colors according to your environment and adopts a fairly singular format with a notch at the top to cut the front camera and the sensors underlying the ID. The images are fluid and responsive, and the screens of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 are perfect for watching videos or beautiful montages with excellent contrasts.

Our opinion (screen): The best is done, but no promotion refreshment rate at one hundred and twenty images per second.

Performance

No new processor on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Plus: Apple preferred to keep the A15 bionic chip, reserving his successor to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Plus. The SOC still benefits from a slight improvement, it wins a heart for its GPU part, to go from 4 (on the iPhone 13), 5 on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus).

The quantity of RAM, on the other hand, is not specified by the manufacturer. But after investigation, it was seen that all the iPhone 14 have 6 GB of RAM, which is more than enough for conventional use.

With their owner motherboard coupled with an operating system also homemade, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are any real racing animals anyway and no lag is to be deplored.

Our opinion (performances): no real new chip, but do we really need it when we know that the iPhone 13 are already very powerful ?

Photo sensor technical sheet

On iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, you are entitled to two photo sensors at the back, of which an ultra-angle and a great angle of 12 megapixels each. The results of these objectives during the day are haloed by criticism, whether indoors or outdoors. And in low light conditions, there is a dedicated night mode which also creates very pretty pictures. This mode was already present on iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, however, benefit from a novelty for night photos: Photonic Engine. It is a software processing allowing Apple smartphones to do even better for light light photography.

Another novelty on iPhone 14 and 14 Plus compared to the previous generation: Fashion action. This is a new function for the video allowing to obtain extremely fluid and stable video recordings. This feature is very practical to follow sports performance.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

iOS at best its form

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are both powered by the owner operating system of Apple, iOS 16. There are many advantages that do not have Android, mainly with regard to Continuity. Under this name is hidden all the features running in hand with the other Apple devices. For example, Handoff allows you to continue reading an Apple TV+ series on your Mac without losing a single second of the audio or video flow.

There are also a whole bunch of exclusive services, such as Locate To find your lost iPhone 14 or else Pictures, To store all your online shots with 5 GB offered on iCloud. Overall, iOS 16 is very practical to use including novices. The most important shortcuts are all accessible from the control center and the emphasis is also posed on the question of the confidentiality. On the security side, updates are deployed regularly and the developer provides free assistance for five to seven years depending on your model. Note that IPhone 14 and 14 Plus take advantage of an IOS 16 new election exclusively: Accident detection. Thanks to their power and many sensors, all iPhone in the 14 range can detect a car accident and alert help automatically if necessary.

Our opinion (software): a very complete operating system, with the App Store as a bonus if that is not enough.

Design and robustness

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are coated with an aluminum frame, itself protected by Gorilla Glass glass from Corning at the front. The two smartphones are thus resistant to scratches, but also to water, which can be immersed for 30 minutes at 6 meters deep. The speaker is installed at the bottom, alongside the charging plug, and the extinction and volume buttons are located on the side.

Generally, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus resist small shocks fairly well : if they fall from the top of a table, no problem. Better to be prudent in town, however, for example by buying a silicone protective shell.

Our opinion (design): the iPhone 14 offers a superb compact format, and the finishes of the two models are almost luxurious.

Our opinion on connectivity

5G is available on iPhone 14 and on iPhone 14 Plus. The rest of the technical sheet offers us Bluetooth for rapid transfer of files or compatible speaker pairing, while Wi-Fi will allow you to reach most private or public access points. Ardrop, Owner feature, notably calls on this modem to send documents to other Apple devices in the blink of an eye.

Our opinion (connectivity): everything you need in a smartphone in 2023 is in the iPhone 14.

What autonomy for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus ?

The iPhone 14 offers a range of 20 hours, but the iPhone 14 Pro Plus is a little better with 26 hours maximum on paper (figures for reading videos). The technical sheet also includes recharging Magsafe and wireless.

Our opinion (battery): in the average, with results that can change according to uses of course.

While the iPhone Mini offered a compact version of the standard model of each series, the iPhone Plus opts for more generous dimensions. We go to measurements of 160.8 x 78.1 x 7.8 mm for a weight of 203 g (against 172 g for the iPhone 14).
The design and design, however, remain the same: classic look, reinforced structure, oleophobic treatment and IP68 certification. The choice of color is also the same: red, midnight, blue, mauve and stellar light.

In the same way as the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus takes over the A15 Bionic chip from the previous generation. Renowned for its very good performances, this chip has 6 hearts, including two performance clocked at 3.23 GHz. Associated with an Apple GPU graphics card with 8 cores, this chip benefits from a 5 nm engraving and an improved cooling device to avoid overheating.

New sensors for better photos and video

• A 26 mm large angle with improved optical stabilization;
• A 13 mm ultra-angle opening at 120 °;
• A frontal sensor with improved hybrid autofocus.

The main changes made by this new configuration concern in particular the sharpness and brightness of the night intake. Action mode is also one of the interesting new features. In addition, the interesting features introduced with the iPhone 13, as the kinematic mode are there.

The longest autonomy for an iPhone

In terms of autonomy, the iPhone 14 Plus goes even further than the standard version by offering up to 26 hours of video reading autonomy. In everyday use, you easily hold more than a whole day.
Its battery is compatible with the fast load at 20 W, the Magsafe wireless charging (15 W) and the Qi wireless recharge (15 W).
