IPhone 13 pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: what are the differences
Indoors and under a beautiful light, the two iPhones offer a rendering at first sight very close. The image is clear, detailed, with a very natural blur and which allows to clear the subject of the scene.
iPhone 13 pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: Differences ?
The new apple brand smartphones will soon be available. But between the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro, what are the differences ? Here are some compared elements to help you see more clearly.

Externally, it is difficult to distinguish the iPhone 13 Pro from the iPhone 14 Pro. They have exactly the same dimensions and offer a similar design. Their thickness differs despite everything with a 7.85 mm profile for the iPhone 14 pro against 7.65 mm for the iPhone 13 Pro. We can however see some differences in the photo sensors which are slightly more important on the new Apple model. The two mobiles are almost the same weight with 204 grams for the iPhone 13 pro against 206 grams for the iPhone 14 Pro.
A photo part that evolves on the iPhone 14 Pro
Regarding photo sensors, there is still Two 12 -megapixel lenses at the back of the iPhone 14 Pro, One being able to zoom in optically in 2x and the other dealing with photos in ultra-wide-angle mode which promises more light than on the sensor of the iPhone 13 Pro playing the same role. But the big difference lies in the fact that The latest Apple has a 48 megapixel sensor as a main module against a 12 megapixel on the iPhone 13 Pro. Finally, note that the front sensor now benefits from an automatic autofocus which is not the case on the previous generation giving the right to sharper clichés.

Battery with greater capacity and a better refreshed screen
The iPhone 14 Pro benefits from a battery with greater capacity than its predecessor since it has 3200 mAh against 3095 mAh. Both that can take care of a priori at the same speed and offers a wireless load possibility. Will remain to determine the difference in autonomy if it is effective. Indeed, even if we have more battery, it is possible that the A16 bionic chip Installed in the iPhone 14 Pro consumes more than the previous one A15 Bionic integrated within the iPhone 13 Pro and especially in the screen level. Indeed, the display surface is always on 6.1 inches with an AMOLED compatible HDR10 and Dolby Vision slab But with a refresh frequency that can drop to 1 Hz significantly reducing energy consumption and which can rise to 120 Hz. Thus, the iPhone 14 Pro takes advantage of the Always-On Display function. Always at the screen level, the iPhone 14 Pro finally gets rid of the notch present on the display surface of the iPhone 13 Pro to make it a Animated area called Dymanic Island by Apple. The brightness of the iPhone 14 Pro screen could go up to 1600 nits (and even 2000 nits in full sun) against 1200 nits on the iPhone 13 pro. Note better gross performance expected on the iPhone 14 Pro. The RAM also seems to promise increased velocity compared to the iPhone 13 Pro.
The connectivity part is identical between the two mobiles. They are also completely waterproof.
iPhone 13 pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: what are the differences ?
What are the differences between an iPhone 13 Pro and an iPhone 14 Pro ?

Like every year, Apple has presented new iPhone. For this generation, we are entitled to four smartphones: the iPhone 14, 14 plus, 14 pro and 14 pro max. But let’s take a look at the heart of the range, the one that should be the most popular: the iPhone 14 Pro. What are its new features compared to the iPhone 13 Pro ? We take stock here.
Note that if you have an iPhone 13 pro, we invite you whatever happens not to go to the upper model. The design of smartphones consumes rare earths, and their extraction pollutes enormously. We therefore advise you to keep your iPhone as long as possible, you will only appreciate all the more the improvements that will have taken place on several generations.
The iPhone 14 Pro: the end of an era
From the passage from the iPhone to ” border “With the iPhone X, all Apple phones have integrated the sensors necessary for facial recognition within a very criticized notch. Four years later, this aging design finally gains in finesse on the iPhone 14 pro with a new format: a ” pill »Enclosing both Face ID and the front camera.
From this constraint, Apple gave birth to a particularly intelligent software interface: Dynamic Island. The area hidden by the pill extends software to display dynamic contextual information. Prolonged support allows you to develop the musical reader while this area attracts your attention during a call for example.

As for the rest of the design, the iPhone 14 Pro does not really change the formula. The stainless steel slices are always flat, the screen diagonal is always 6.1 inches and dimensions of dimensions are anecdotal (+0.8 mm in height, +0.20 mm thick and +3 grams on the balance).
An even brighter screen
Always more ! While the brightness of the iPhone 13 Pro screen was limited to 1,200 Nits in HDR, it goes up to 1600 nits here on the iPhone 14 Pro. In addition, the phone is capable of getting an additional reserve and pushing the brightness up to 2000 nits in full sun.
Beyond that, we remain on a similar definition of 2556 x 1179 pixels and a maximum cooling rate of 120 Hz. The LTPO slab can nevertheless descend up to 1 Hz, allowing the arrival of the Always-On screen.
L’Alway-on on iPhone
Currently, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro both run on iOS 16 if you take the time to update your iPhone. However, there are some software news here, particularly in terms of interactions of the Dynamic Island function.
Already available for years on Android, the Always-On Display finally appears on the iPhone 14 Pro. This functionality being energy -consuming, Apple limited it to its device that can drop its display frequency to 1 Hz to save battery. So she shouldn’t arrive on the iPhone 13 Pro.

The screen of the iPhone 14 Pro therefore remains visible in all circumstances, but is darkening. This allows you to keep your eye on your iPhone information.
A faster GPU
Unlike the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro is equipped with Apple’s new A16 Bionic chip. Engraved in 4 nm, it is announced having 50 % bandwidth in addition for complex graphics. We remain on a similar architecture with a CPU with 6 cores (2 performance cores and 4 high efficiency cores) and a 5 -core GPU. The neural Engine 16 hearts allows to reach 17,000 billion operations dedicated to artificial intelligence in the second, or 1200 billion more.
Performance does not seem to be a priority for Apple on this generation, the subject having been discussed only quickly during the announcement conference. Note that the modem remains the same and still does not offer Wi-Fi 6th.
4x more pixels
The big novelty of the iPhone 14 Pro is, as often, to look for the photo side and more particularly on the side of its main sensor. This goes from 12 to 48 megapixels for a size 65 % larger. The opening of its goal is however less with f/1.78 against F/1.5 on the iPhone 13 Pro, a detail that should not play much in view of the sensor enlargement. We also find a system of Pixel Binning To merge 4 pixels in 1 and thus obtain clichés of 12 mpx more bright when the conditions are not optimal.
Otherwise we find 12 MP sensors, as on the iPhone 13 pro, on the ultra-angle and the telephoto x3. Note all the same that the opening descends from f/1.8 to f/2.2.

Algorithms also take advantage of the performance of the A16 Bionic to improve night performance. And as Apple needs to give a marketing name to everything, this is called this year Photonic Engine. Apple announces a quality photo of 2 to 3 times higher depending on the low light lens.
There are also interesting new features on the video side with the transition from cinematic mode to 4K and the “action mode” which promises stability worthy of a stabilizer gimbal.
Stable autonomy despite the improvements
On the battery side, the autonomy remains similar from one year to the next. Apple Announcement 23 hours in video reading (against 10 p.m. on the 13 pro), 20 hours in video streaming and 75 hours in audio reading (like last year). To see if the autonomy remains stable with the Always-On Display.
For recharging, the iPhone 14 Pro is still stuck at 20 W.
IPhone 14 PRO price
The price of the iPhone 14 Pro spreads 1329 euros for the model with 128 GB of memory at 1979 euros for the one with 1 to. An increase of around 14 % compared to last year.
Comparison iPhone 14 PRO VS iPhone 13 Pro: which is the best in photo ?
We opposed the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 13 Pro in a pushed comparison. The result is surprising to say the least.
Posted on October 17, 2022 at 7:00 p.m

On the one hand, we have the iPhone 14 Pro, the new Fleur de Apple and therefore the most powerful and most successful smartphone ever launched by the firm. On the other, its predecessor, the iPhone 13 pro. The logic would like the first to crush the second in pictures, but we wanted to have a clear heart. And we did well.

A technical summary before starting
Before opposing the two iPhones, it is probably better to briefly recall what they offer in the field of the photo.
The iPhone 13 Pro has three 12 million pixel sensors. With three focal distances. These sensors are indeed respectively crowned with a wide angle opening to f/1.5, from an ultra wide angle opening to f/1.8 and a telephoto objective opening at f/2.8 and offering a 3X optical zoom. The main sensor is also stabilized and we find all the usual technos with Deep Fusion, the Smart HDR4 or the Proraw.
Technologies also offered by the iPhone 14 Pro. An iPhone 14 Pro which inherits the same optical zoom. The rest, however, changes.
The main sensor rises to 48 million pixels, and it is accompanied by a wide angle opening to f/1.78 and a brand new mechanical stabilization system. The sensor placed under the ultra -wide angle still displays 12 million definition pixels, but it is larger, with bigger photosites. Optics opens at F/2.2. The iPhone 14 PRO also embeds the photonic engine, a new image processing technology.
On paper, therefore, we have a little less bright optics on the last iPhone, which is of course offset by the fact that the sensors are physically bigger. The definition is better and the phone also offers a new image processing techno with a brand new stabilization system.
So he seems rather well armed to supplant his predecessor, but sometimes you have to be wary of appearances ..
The photo comparison
Which of course brings us to the part that interests you, namely the photo comparison. A comparison that will directly oppose each focal length. And of course, each time, the photos were taken automatically, at the same time. All guaranteed without retouching.
To better oppose the photos, we recommend that you open them in the gallery, or download them.
The wide angle

Large angles are, as always with Apple, very effective by day. They recover a lot of details on the photographed scenes, with omnipresent sharpness and a dynamic that encourages respect. Images crackle and they give the impression of being full of life.
However, at first glance, it is also very difficult to distinguish them. The iPhone 14 Pro does not stand out, even by zooming far in the image. The iPhone 13 Pro thus achieves it despite its old generation sensor.
In this regard, we must also highlight an important point: on automatic modes, the iPhone 14 pro capture of images of 12 million definition pixels. Full definition is only accessible on Proraw.

In the evening and indoors, the two phones are once again at the shoulder. Nice feeling of sharpness, impressive dynamic, natural colors, they produce quality images. Images that once again offer an identical rendering. At least at first glance.
This time, when we zoom in, we see more differences. The iPhone 14 Pro offers a smoother rendering, the iPhone 13 Pro is therefore more precise. Witness the details of the young woman’s sweater, or even those of her handbag. Against all expectations, the old iPhone therefore seems to be a bit above its replacement.

To try to decide between them, I therefore placed myself in a closed room, curtains drawn. In both cases, the iPhone shot with a second exposure duration.
At first glance, nothing striking. However, when you zoom in in the image, we see that the iPhone 14 Pro has recovered more details. The figurine is much less blurred, the same for the rocks placed behind. Each detail of the stone is visible, unlike the iPhone 13 Pro which had heavy hand at the smoothing level.
What can we deduce from it ?
Contrary to what one would have thought, in normal light conditions, the two phones offer a fairly similar result on the wide angle, despite the fact that the iPhone 14 Pro has a brand new sensor.
You really have to shoot in low light to see any difference. With sometimes surprising results. The latest iPhone seems more comfortable on very complex stages. Conversely, the iPhone 13 Pro is doing better indoors. On the other hand, it should be remembered that the latter, unlike his replacement, was able to enjoy a year of software updates. Apple will undoubtedly need a little time to manage to take full advantage of its new 48 million pixel sensor.
The change in focal length – we go from 26 mm to a 24 mm – has not particularly embarrassed me. Admittedly, the framing is not exactly the same, but it is not disturbing.
Ultra wide angle
Now let’s go on the ultra wide angle. Which changes a little on the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple has indeed opted for a slightly larger sensor, which has the consequence of also leading to an increase in the size of its photosites. In theory, he must therefore obtain better results in low light. But is this really the case ?

At first glance, by day, the two iPhones obtain the same results. Pique images, a dynamic that gives full eyes, one might think that they offer an identical rendering. But this is not the case. By being attentive, we notice indeed that the iPhone 14 Pro managed to recover more details in the clouds, but also in the tree. Even the church in the background is more precise.
Which also confirms a zoom in the image. Whether it is the texture of the wall in the background or the roof of houses in the distance, the iPhone 14 pro was more precise than its predecessor.

We change atmosphere with this nighttime shot. The two photos were taken at the same time, the phones were at ground level, photo module downwards. At first glance, the rendering is very similar, and we see that the iPhone 14 Pro still has so much trouble managing the flares.
Nevertheless, when you zoom in in the image, we realize that the new Apple phone was more precise. The best example remaining that of the face of the girl walking with a headband in her hair. If in both cases its features remain vague, the iPhone 14 Pro still offers the clearest rendering.

To push the iPhone in their latest entrenchments, I took these photos in a room completely immersed in the night. And in both cases, with an explosion duration of two seconds. The phones were of course hand kept to complicate their task a little more.
The two rendering are quite similar. We keep a precise image. The two phones have managed the rise in sensitivity and there are few visible artifacts. By zooming, we see, however, that the iPhone 14 Pro is a bit above. The image is less rough and the rendering is therefore a little better.
The balance sheet:
Here, we see that the ultra wide angle of the iPhone 14 Pro is clearly above that of the iPhone 13 Pro. He is more precise and he recovers more details, even from very complicated scenes. Now, you still have to zoom in the image to take the full measure of these improvements.
X3 zoom
Which brings us to the last focal length, namely the zoom. On paper, nothing changes from one generation to another. Nevertheless, the iPhone 14 Pro displays two notable differences: the A16 chip and the photonic engine. But is it enough ?

By day, we cannot say that the difference is obvious. In both cases, the photos are detailed, with a beautiful dynamic and quite natural colors. As usual, the iPhone indeed pulls towards hot, but it is rather flattering.
It is therefore necessary to zoom far in the image to distinguish the two phones. The portrait of Batman is slightly more detailed on the latest iPhone, especially in the jaw.

At night, the differences are more striking. The iPhone 14 Pro seems to better manage flares. The brands present in the background are at the same time a bit more precise. What a zoom in the image confirms.
Besides, it is not only the brands that are better returned. The poster, for example, is a little more readable on the iPhone 14 PRO side. Same thing for bar bottles or the horse saddle at the entrance. Overall, therefore, the zoom of the iPhone 14 Pro has done its job better.

History to be clear, I shot these photos in a room plunged into the most complete darkness, with this time a three -second exhibition time. Of course, I was holding the phones in hand.
Well again, the iPhone 14 Pro has obtained better results than its comrade. The figurine is more detailed, the same for the pot placed behind or even the leaves of the plant. Each reflection, each nuance is visible. The iPhone 13 Pro has less well managed the rise in sensitivity. The figurine glasses lack precision and the image is generally more rough.
In summary :
I’m going to be honest, I did not expect such a blatant difference. Which proves, ultimately, that the A16 and Photonic Engine chip are not there to decorate. They bring a real gain on the shots.
Portrait mode
Apart from the three focal lengths, we must also look at the specific modes offered by the iPhone. Like portrait mode, for example.

By day, it must be recognized that the rendering of the iPhone 14 Pro is a more impressive hair. It is indeed he who is the most precise. Each detail is faithfully transcribed. The photo literally crackles and this impression is of course confirmed when one zooms in in the image. The gaze is thus deeper on the iPhone 14 Pro. With more shades at the level of the iris.

Indoors and under a beautiful light, the two iPhones offer a rendering at first sight very close. The image is clear, detailed, with a very natural blur and which allows to clear the subject of the scene.
It is therefore necessary to zoom in to see significant differences. And again, the iPhone 14 Pro is slightly above. He is indeed more precise, what we see for example in terms of my daughter’s eyelashes or her green sweater. The meshes are clearly visible in the photo taken at the iPhone 14 Pro. For its part, the iPhone 13 Pro offers a slightly smoother rendering.

At night, outdoors, the two phones are more difficult to decide between. In both cases, we obtain a precise image, with a net cutting and a well -worked blur. Even by zooming, we do not see a notable difference.
In short :
Once again, we can’t really talk about a revolution, but the iPhone 14 Pro is clearly above its predecessor. It is more much more precise in broad daylight or even indoors. On the other hand, when the light conditions are more difficult, it will tend to make a slightly too marked smoothing which will place it in the elbow with the previous model.
The macro
The macro was introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro. It therefore seemed to me legitimate to evoke this mode in this comparison. Especially since it remains, this year again, reserved for “pro” models of the range.

By day, it must be recognized that the two devices are impressive. They are able to generate very precise images with a high level of details. On the other hand, the tilting to the macro mode is always a bit hazardous. It will therefore be preferable to think of activating the button to avoid brutal dropouts.
By zooming, we can see blatant differences between the two phones. The iPhone 14 Pro is indeed more precise. The dynamics seem so much better in shadows.

Curiously, indoors, the difference is less blatant, even when one zooms away far in the image. A result that may be explained by the subject photographed. A fairly “flat” subject.

This is what led me to change the rules of the game a little and to shoot in a room plunged in the dark, with a two -second exhibition. Phones, this time, were placed on a book to be at the same level. And once again, the iPhone 14 Pro has completely taken over his comrade. The image is much more detailed on its side, we even manage to see the stitches of the duvet cover.
And by zooming, we see that it is also he who better managed the rise in sensitivity. The iPhone 13 Pro began a general smoothing which also made him lose many details.
The balance sheet:
You have understood, but again it is the iPhone 14 Pro which prevails. With little, of course, but he still wins the Channel.
The Proraw
It was of course impossible for me not to talk about the Proraw. And I will of course start with a little theory.
Proraw is a format specific to Apple, a format that combines information from a RAW file, and therefore a compressionless format, with the image processing specific to iPhones. Concretely, therefore, it is a raw format which offers a little more flexibility in post production, but with pieces of apples anyway.
Proraw is of course available on all focal lengths, but there is a particularity specific to the iPhone 14 Pro. As I explained earlier, when we shoot on the wide angle, we take advantage of the full definition of the sensor. Or 48 million pixels. And it is therefore in this specific use that I opposed the two devices. I therefore limited myself to this single focal length for the good of this comparison.

By day and at first glance, the results are generally similar. Finally apart from the definition and weight of the photos of course. Count an average of 30 MB per photo on the iPhone 13 Pro, against an average of 70 MB for the iPhone 14 Pro.
And depending on the images, you can even go up to more than 130 MB. Yes, it hurts and it will be better to plan upstream when you choose the storage capacity of your new iPhone.
By zooming, we logically enter another world. The sensor of the iPhone 14 Pro being better defined, it manages to recover many more details. This is evidenced for example the hairs of the Romy chest. Each hair is faithfully restored on the latest iPhone and this is not the case with the previous model.
The exhibition remains quite fragile, as evidenced by the wall behind the subject. Whites tend to burn very quickly and post -production work will therefore be necessary to correct the shot.

A good first impression confirmed with this other photo, the heaviest of our selection. Again, at first glance, we do not see big difference between the two images, except that taken with the iPhone 14 Pro seems a more detailed hair.
But when you zoom in, this is the revelation. Each strand of grass is correctly restored. Better yet, the latest iPhone also manages to recover more details in the shadows. Like the texture of stones for example.

I was obviously curious to know how the iPhone 14 Pro would behave in difficult light conditions. With a so well defined sensor, he left with a hell of a handicap. But then again, I was pleasantly surprised. The latest iPhone manages to produce much more detailed images once again, with very little noise.
The rise in sensitivity seems to have been particularly well managed on this scene. And when you zoom in the image, we see that the statuette is clearer and more detailed on the iPhone 14 Pro.
The summary :
The observation is for me without appeal. In Proraw, the iPhone 14 Pro is well above its predecessor. Apple has managed to exploit the beautiful definition of its main sensor intelligently. It is all the more impressive that the iPhone 14 Pro has only experienced one update since its launch. The gap should logically widen in the coming months.
And selfies then ?
But we still have one point to evoke: selfies. If the definition does not change, the iPhone 14 Pro offers one or two improvements, such as a brighter optics and a self -tinner. So I was very looking forward to testing it in this use.

On this selfie taken indoors, I wanted to see how the iPhone behaved with two subjects. And if the overall rendering is significantly the same, we can still note that the iPhone 14 Pro has managed to recover a little more details, whether in terms of skin or clothes. A confirmed impression when making a zoom on the image.

Just to confirm this impression, so I carried out a second test. This time, I put myself in a dark room, with only lighting a light ray from the window. This time, the result is final, the iPhone 14 Pro is most precise.
Not content with recovering as many details as possible, it also manages the rise in sensitivity better. There are fewer artifacts. We also appreciate the natural rendering of the skin.
To sum up :
There, clearly, we see that Apple did a big job on the selfies and the autofocus of the front camera brings an undeniable plus.
