Wireless speaker is a monobloc, domestic speaker, provided in particular with one or more wireless connection possibilities (Bluetooth, WiFi), which is to simplify access and reading audio files at home. Over time, its capacities have greatly evolved to offer not only access and reading files locally, but also online with the appearance of many streaming services (Deezer, Spotify, Qobuz, YouTube Music or Apple Music ) and webradios. Thanks to the multiroom function, certain systems even make it possible to form groups of different speakers and listening zones. There are also wireless speaker models called “intelligent”: a specificity gained by the integration of one or more microphones and advanced compatibility with smart voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri.
Wireless/intelligent speakers are tested in a classic way: the acoustic measurements made in our lab SES include the frequency response, harmonic distortion, square signals, impulse response, etc. As for the ergonomic aspect, on the other hand, it is another pair of sleeves: wireless speakers being domestic speakers, they are also taken at home. We thus test the configuration, the connectivity, all the available features, the companion application or the quality of the capture of the voice when the speaker allows direct interaction with a voice assistant.
In order to help you make the right choice quickly and effectively, this buying guide therefore brings together all the best monobloc and sedentary speakers tested by us, classified in different tariff slices.

JBL PARTYBOX 310: The reference
We are not going to hide it, JBL is a bit the king in terms of evening speaker, thanks to his dedicated range, named PartyBox. To the point that the word “partybox” is commonly used to overall name an evening speaker, thus becoming an antonomase, that is to say a term which designates a proper name that has become a common name (like scotch or Sopalin).
The one who has our preference is the JBL PARTYBOX 310. This is the reference evening speaker, one of the most balanced in the Partybox range. It develops a beautiful power of 240 watts. Note however that the enclosure will only be able to reach this full power if it is connected to the sector.

The 310 stands out for excellent autonomy of 18 hours, which allows you to party all night without worrying about being near an electrical outlet. This is 50 % volume, with the light effects, as well as the “bass boost” deactivated. The sound quality is good, without even having to push the volume thoroughly. The bass are very present – even a little too much, at the expense of the treble. However, this is the typical sound signature of JBL.
Connectors, as we can expect, is well provided. We will thus find a mini-jack auxiliary input, a USB input, a mini-jack input and output to connect a CD player, for example. But it also has two 6.35 mm jack inputs, which can allow to connect a microphone or a guitar. If you plan to make a karaoke, you can manage the microphones effects, with the treble and echo adjustment knobs. In Bluetooth, partybox 310 can be connected to two devices simultaneously. A 12 V port was also added. If you have several partyboxes, it is possible to link them to each other.
JBL has thought practicality for this speaker: it is splashing (IPX4), fitted with a retractable handle and wheels. Another advantage of which little evening speakers can boast, it can be installed in height on a tripod. Finally, it is capable of producing a whole bunch of light effects thanks to LEDs, adjustable via the JBL Partybox application.
Even if it is certainly not given, we can only advise you this renowned model which brings together everything that can be expected from an evening enclosure.
The strengths of the JBL Partybox 310:
- A nice power for a compact format
- Two microphone entries
- Easily transportable
JBL PARTYBOX 710: A larger speaker for more power
There Partybox 710 is a beautiful beast, which measures almost a meter once posed standing. It will therefore be perfect for organizing a big evening in a house, coupled with another partybox, via with a cable, or wireless thanks to True Wireless Stereo technology (TWS). It is able to deliver 800 watts, the latter feeding two speakers 21.6 cm in diameter and two tweeters of 7 cm. This allows you to sound without concern for large rooms and also enjoy powerful bass.

The Partybox 710 is a good product, it has a big weak point: it cannot work on battery … because it simply does not have one. This detail will make it not recommendable for many, starting with those who wish to make it an outdoor nomadic use.
On the light games, JBL has given everything, with dynamic and customizable stroboscopes as well as flashing and colorful patterns via LEDs placed in the shape of 8. Like all partyboxes, it is IPX4 certified and will therefore be able to survive the accidents of overturned glasses. Like the 310, its casters and its handle will allow it to be moved more easily, despite its 28 kg.
This is a good choice if you do not plan to take it everywhere, but you need power for wider spaces.
The strengths of the JBL Partybox 710:
- Power to resell
- Very varied light games
- Basses well present
Sony SRS XP500: the affordable alternative
Sony is as a real JBL challenger with the XP500. The latter offers characteristics very close to the JBL Partybox 110, which is the little sister of the 310. However, it is cheaper, with equivalent performance.

The SRS XP500 develops a more sober design than the JBL, neat and typical of Sony, which may appeal to many. Light games are broadcast via two LED strips located at the two large transport handles. These are more decorative than anything else and remain quite discreet, they are not intended to light up.
Sony has strangely decided not to communicate the number of watts on its speakers in the XP series. It is therefore impossible to know what power it can deliver – but we can generally compare it to the audio power of the JBL 110, which has 160 W.
It is 20 hours of autonomy that are promised by the brand, not to mention that it benefits from rapid recharge. 10 minutes on a plug will allow him to hold about 1 hour.
The strengths of the Sony SRS XP500:
- A sober design
- Sony manufacturing quality
- Good autonomy
LG Xboom On9: big watts for big sound
For its part, the LG brand has also created a range of specific speakers. The latter is named Xboom. And on the OL100, LG clearly “farts watts”: 1800, to be precise, without counting the double boomer of 8 inch. This is an imposing speaker over a meter high.

In addition to the impressive sound power delivered, this model offers something different from the other speakers: DJ functions, usable via the knobs located on the top or from the associated app. The karaoke functions are also very advanced: you can independently adjust the volume of music and microphone, or even reduce the level of the voices of a song thanks to the “Voice Cancel” function.
On the lighting, this speaker stands out again, allowing to project lighting on the wall. We will nevertheless regret the organization of the upper control panel, perhaps not very logical on the grip, in particular on the placement of the knobs. In terms of connection, we find the USB ports, Jack ports, micro ports … as well as a CD player and the Multipoint Bluetooth. The top for a big evening.
The strengths of the LG Xboom On9:
- Perfect for sounding large spaces
- Interesting karaoke functions
- A good price-performance ratio
LG XBoom 360 RP4: the Lookée and cheaper option
There LG Xboom 360 RP4 is a little different. It will be less “party” focused, especially because it does not have a microphone entry and management of trebles and echo. But in addition to Bluetooth, it still offers a Jack port and a USB socket. It will rather be a terrace speaker, for a nice atmosphere. It must be said that its design is very worked, and rather original. LG has based everything on the principle of a 360 ° sound disseminated. The design therefore follows, with a round speaker that strongly recalls an oil lamp.

It remains very easily transportable, thanks to a contained size (50 cm high) and a rounded handle on the top. It can be done all the same on the sound, and will remain able to properly sound your garden or your living room: it has a 13 cm medium speaker and a grave and a 2.5 cm tweeter, Food by a 120 W amplifier. On the luminous atmosphere side, LG has placed a kind of cone in the center, which creates a sweet room lighting, in line with music.
On autonomy, we should not wait for wonders, and be satisfied with the 10 hours offered. This model will have the advantage of being able to be used throughout the year on a daily basis: thanks to its nice and discreet look, it will not denate in the middle of a living room.
We were able to test a more compact version thought for the interior, the Xboom 360 XO3, very similar from an aesthetic point of view. We have noted an elegant design in the latter, and a customizable and overall very successful 360 ° room lighting system. Unfortunately, the sound performance was not there. The RP4 model that we recommend here, however, does not have the same characteristics at this level, with in particular a much more powerful amplification (120 W against 50 W). We still invite you to read the test of the Xboom 360 XO3 model.
The strengths of the LG Xboom 360 RP4:
- An original design
- An affordable price
- A softer light atmosphere
Choosing the right Sand Evening speaker
What are the possible uses of an evening speaker ?
As its name suggests, the evening speaker will be perfect for animating evenings. But unlike the hi-fi enclosure that sits in your living room, it can be placed wherever you wish. Thus, these large speakers will notably be intended for exterior use, for example if you plan a small jump in your garden. On this occasion, they can be coupled. But they can also be useful if you organize an event in a holiday room, or punctually indoors in a country house. If you plan to move it regularly, look carefully whether the speaker that interests you is wireless or not.
Finally, if you are a follower of karaoke, they will be able to accompany your passionate songs wonderfully thanks to the dedicated micro entries. They can also help out to connect an electrical instrument.
Light effects, karaoke, DJ… what are the different features ?
The light effects are available on most evening speakers. But they are more or less numerous and varied, present only on the front or also on the sides … They can be fixed, indicators, make certain patterns or even monitor the rhythm of the music in progress. Some models even have LEDs that project light, for example to create stroboscopic effects, just to transform your living room into a nightclub of the Croisette. As a general rule, they can be set very precisely via the mobile application made available by the brand (JBL Partybox, Sony Music Center, LG Xboom, etc.). The biggest speakers also offer DJ functions for amateurs.
How many watts choose according to the size of my living room/garden ?
The higher the number of watts, the more the maximum load capacity of the enclosure will be. To put it simply, the number of watts conditions the maximum sound volume attainable. The more sensitive an enclosure, according to a data expressed in decibels (DB), the less it will require power to produce a high volume volume.
So how to know how many watts are necessary for you ? It is admitted that it takes approximately 3 to 5 watts per square meter, in a closed place. Thus, a room of 30 square meters will require about 100 W. Outside, the sound of course more dispersing, there are more than 7 to 10 W per square meter.
