If connection sharing does not work on your iPhone or iPad (Cellular Wi-Fi)

You can use the connection sharing of your iPhone with a computer, an iPad or a tablet using the following connection mode: Bluetooth.

Connection sharing with an iPhone: connect equipment

The “connection sharing” allows you to transform your iPhone under iOS 12 into a network access point, in order to share the internet connection of your mobile with a computer, an iPad or any other device by connecting them to WiFi, in Bluetooth or with A USB cable. Here is the procedure to connect a computer or a tablet.

Connect via Bluetooth

Connection sharing is activated

You can use the connection sharing of your iPhone with a computer, an iPad or a tablet using the following connection mode: Bluetooth.

Activate the Bluetooth connection of your computer, iPad or tablet
Select iPhone

In the list of devices detected by your computer, iPad or tablet, select iphone.

Appairer your device to your iPhone

Press the pavement Twin In the window open to your iPhone screen.

Confirm the twinning of your device to your iPhone

Confirm the password displayed on the screen of your device for connection to your iPhone by pressing OK .

Press on The setting icon paired iPhone.

Connection sharing with Your device (1 connection) is indicated in the blue banner at the top of the iPhone screen.

Surf the Internet

Open the browser on your computer, iPad or tablet to browse the Internet.

If connection sharing does not work on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)

With connection sharing, you can share the connection of mobile data from your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) with another device. If you need help with connection sharing, proceed as follows.

Start by following the instructions below

  1. Check that connection sharing is activated in settings> connection sharing. If you cannot find or cannot activate the connection sharing, check that your mobile operator has activated it and your mobile package supports it.
  2. Restart the iPhone or iPad which provides connection sharing and the other device that needs to connect to the connection sharing.
  3. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS or iPados.
  4. On the iPhone or iPad which provides connection sharing, go to settings> General> Transfer or reset [device]> Reset, then touch reset the network settings. This operation also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cell settings and settings applicable to VPNs and APNs previously used.

Follow the instructions below to get help with connection sharing via Wi-Fi or USB.

If you cannot connect to the connection sharing via Wi-Fi

On the device that provides connection sharing, go to settings> connection sharing, then:

  1. Make sure the authorizing other users option is activated.
  2. Note the name and password of the Wi-Fi network of the device that appear on this screen. If you want to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, find out how to change the name of your device.
  3. If you use an iPhone 12 or subsequent model, an 11 -inch iPad Pro (3rd generation or subsequent), an iPad Pro 12.9 inch (5th generation or subsequent) or an iPad Mini (6th generation), activate the Maximize Maximize function compatibility*. Then try to connect your devices again to your connection sharing.
  4. Stay on this screen until you connect your other device to the Wi-Fi network.

On the device that needs to connect to the connection sharing:

  1. Disable and reactivate Wi-Fi.
  2. Make sure you connect to the right Wi-Fi network. The name of the network is that of the iOS device which provides connection sharing and the connection sharing icon may appear opposite.
  3. If a password error message is displayed when you try to join the connection sharing, check the Wi-Fi password by going to settings> Connection sharing on the device that provides connection sharing.

* Activating the Maximize Compatibility function can lead to a reduction in internet performance and Wi-Fi security for devices that share the connection.

If you cannot connect to the connection sharing via USB

  1. On your Mac, update macOS.
  2. Using a USB cable, connect your Mac to the iPhone or iPad that provides connection sharing. If you are invited, choose to trust the device.
  3. Make sure you can locate and view your iPhone or iPad in iTunes or Finder.
  4. On your Mac, choose the Apple menu > System settings (or system preferences), then click on network. A list of network services appears, including Wi-Fi.
  5. If iphone USB does not appear in the list of network services, add iphone USB by following the steps of the item to configure a network service. If USB iPhone appears in the list of network services:
    • Ventura macOS: click iphone USB. Click Disable, then on Display Active.
    • Previous versions of macOS: Click on iphone USB. Click the Plus button under the Services list, choose Disable the Service, then click Apply. Click on the Plus button again, choose Activate the Service, then click Apply.

To prevent unnecessary data costs from being billed to you, deactivate connection sharing when you don’t need it. If you don’t, whenever you connect your iOS device with connection sharing on your computer to load it, your computer may connect to the connection sharing.

Start by performing the following steps

  1. Check that connection sharing is activated in settings> connection sharing. If you cannot find or cannot activate the connection sharing, check that your mobile operator has activated it and your mobile package supports it.
  2. Restart the iPhone or iPad which provides connection sharing and the other device that must connect to the connection sharing.
  3. Make sure the latest version of iOS or iPados is installed.
  4. On the iPhone or iPad which provides connection sharing, go to settings> General> Transfer or reset [device]> Reset, then touch reset the network settings. This operation also resets Wi-Fi networks and associated passwords, cell settings and settings applicable to VPN and APN.

Follow the following instructions to get help regarding Wi-Fi or USB connection sharing.

If you cannot connect to the connection sharing using a Wi-Fi network

On the device that provides connection sharing, go to settings> connection sharing, then:

  1. Make sure that the Party Autivation Function is activated other users.
  2. Remember the name and password of the Wi-Fi network of the device that appear on this screen. If you want to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, find out how to change the name of your device.
  3. If you use an iPhone 12 model or a subsequent model, an iPad Pro 11 in (3rd generation or a subsequent model), an iPad Pro 12.9 in (5th generation or a subsequent model) or an iPad Mini (6th generation ), activate the maximize compatibility* option*. Then try to connect your devices to your login sharing again.
  4. Stay on this screen until you connect your other device to the Wi-Fi network.

On the device that must connect to the connection sharing:

  1. Disable and reactivate Wi-Fi.
  2. Make sure you connect to the right Wi-Fi network. The name of the network is that of the iOS device which provides connection sharing and the connection sharing icon can be displayed next to it.

If you cannot connect to the connection sharing using USB

  1. On your Mac, update macOS.
  2. Using a USB cable, connect your mac to the iPhone or iPad offering connection sharing. If you are invited, trust the device.
  3. Make sure you can find and display your iPhone or iPad on iTunes or in the Finder.
  4. On your Mac, select the Apple menu > System settings (or system preferences), then click on network. A list of network services is displayed, including Wi-Fi.
  5. If the iPhone USB option is not displayed in the network services list, add USB iPhone by following the configuration instructions for a network service. If USB iPhone is not displayed in the list of network services:
    • Ventura macOS: click USB iPhone. Click Disable, then on Display Active.
    • Previous versions of macOS: click USB iPhone. Click on the Plus button under the Services list, select Disable the Service, then click Apply. Click on the button more new, select Activate the service, then click Apply.

To prevent unnecessary data costs from being billed to you, deactivate connection sharing when you don’t need it. If you don’t, whenever you plug in your iOS device with connection sharing activated on your computer to recharge it, your computer could connect to the connection sharing.
