Each year, a new iPhone arrives with its share of more or less significant improvements. Released in mid-September 2021, Apple’s iPhone 13 intends to surf the success of its predecessor, the iPhone 12. He had marked a breakup or rather a backbid in terms of design compared to the previous models, with the return of the “rights” edges inspired by models of iPhone 4 and 5. Sold at 100 million copies in seven months according to the firm Counterpoint Research (a record from the iPhone 6, marking the beginnings of 4G), the iPhone 12, pioneer on 5G for Apple, was also the first “number “from the range to be declined in four copies.
The little new also offers four versions: the iPhone 13 Mini, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Different sizes and prices ranging from 809 euros to 1839 euros. But what moreover these latest generation iPhone offers that the 2020 range did not have ? Franceinfo take stock of improvements.
More efficient cameras
Main argument for the purchase of a new smartphone for a large majority of users, the camera of the iPhone 13 has characteristics very similar to that of the iPhone 12. The two smartphones embark on a wide angle camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens of 12 megapixels each. But the new arrangement of photo sensors on the latest iPhone and especially to the enlargement of their size allow the creation of better qualities. According to Apple, the sensor of the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are “47% larger” than that of the iPhone 12 . Letting more light pass, it thus offers sharper images in low light . At nightfall, the shots are sharper and the lights “drool” much less.
To this must be added a reworked night mode, new integrated touch -up features and the appearance of Sensor Shift, already present on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This technology gives better image stability of the wide angle sensor. On the other hand, ultra-angle and selfie side, there is no particular improvement. For its front camera, Apple has kept the same photo module before the iPhone 12.
On pro and pro max models, there are notable differences compared to the iPhone 13. The main sensor and that of the ultra wide angle are even larger for the pleasure of photo enthusiasts. In addition, the two versions have a third goal like the previous iPhone Pro and Pro Max. This 12 -megapixel telephoto lens can capture a subject up to 2 cm sharply. Also, these editions “premium”Keep certain recipes that have successfully made 12 pro and pro max, with the Lidar scanner (3D scanner used for augmented reality) or the possibility of taking photos in RAW format (larger files allowing photo editing without degrading the image). Finally, the small novelty lies on the arrival of the night mode available on each sensor.
Better autonomy on the four models
Heavier than the iPhone 12 of 10 grams on average, the iPhone 13 benefit from a fairly significantly improved autonomy compared to their predecessors. The new batteries integrated into the different iPhone 13 promise a use of 90 to 150 additional minutes, which is not negligible for those who use their iPhone as much as possible.
We compared the “lifespan” on a day without recharge from the iPhone 12 to that of the iPhone 13, with a brightness of the apparatus pushed to the maximum, the same notifications activated, the same calling and of use (sending messages, web searches. )). The iPhone 13 held the charge from 8 a.m. (100%) to 9 p.m. (1%) when the iPhone 12 was on the verge of extinction at 6.50 p.m. However, it is also necessary to take into account the natural wear and tear of our 2020 model. But the test undoubtedly reveals the progress of the new new.
A reduced notch. But still there
It remained a bit of the brand’s trademark from the iPhone X which marked 10 years of Apple smartphones. The notch located at the top of the screen and which prevents it from being completely “edge to edge”, has been reduced compared to the iPhone 12, but it is still there. Much more prominent than most high -end models of competing manufacturers like Samsung or Oppo (which have been able to reduce them almost entirely), it is assumed and precisely by the brand to the apple due to the Face ID.
However, the speaker was refined and placed above than on the iPhone, the notch only embarking on the front camera and the facial detection system which is defined as the most secure in the world. The space to the right of the notch does not remain wide enough to display the percentage of battery, however this reduction remains appreciable, while waiting better.
No revolution in the colors
Apple has declined its iPhone 13 in five colors, one less than for its previous model. Among those already present on the iPhone 12, we find red, white (stellar light), black (midnight) and blue. Even if you have to note slight retouching on their shade, giving them a lighter and metallic appearance. On the other hand, the green copy is replaced by pink. Only the mauve passes (for the moment) to the hatch on this new range. As a reminder, the iPhone 12 Mauve had later arrived on the market.
A price that will think. or wait
With prices starting at 809 euros for the iPhone 13 Mini 128 GB and up to € 1839 for the iPhone 13 Max Pro 1 TB, the last from the Apple family are not within the reach of all budgets. In addition, all of iPhone are sold without a charger (note that in France, wired headphones are always present in the box of the smartphone unlike other countries).
For the classic and professional model, it takes 909 euros and 1159 euros respectively for the 128 GB versions (the lower storage capacities). For comparison, Samsung offers its Galaxy S21+ Ultra 5G (its most high -end model) at 1099 euros for the 128 GB copy and 1279 euros for the one at 512GB.
Despite the few notable improvements, the prices of these new iPhone will therefore think people who want to change the phone. High -end Android users and iPhone 12 Pro iPhone or 12 Pro Max owners have almost nothing to envy to models 13 and 13 mini. The owners of iPhone 12 no longer, as their phone is compatible with the latest Apple operating system (iOS 15).
However for those who have much older iPhone or who wish to acquire, the iPhone 13 is undoubtedly, by its autonomy and its improved camera and its impeccable design, an undeniable new reference on the smartphones market.

Iphone 13 Pro photo test: a solid partition that deserves better sensors

Always composed of three camera modules, the photo partition of iPhone 13 Pro (and pro max) benefits from a multitude of small improvements in light, zoom or software wealth collection. Enough to counter Android terminals ?
What has changed in the photo between the iPhone 12 Pro Max, flagship of the previous generation, and the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max of the end of 2021 ? Externally, not much. In addition to the design perpetuating the angular side of the “12” generation, we find the same organization of the system with three camera modules. Does that mean that nothing changes ? Not really: in addition to a slight extension of the telephoto focal length, all the modules have been improved, whether optical or electronically. Changes that are perceptible to the eye when comparing the outside diameter of the optical blocks.
The first progress to be emphasized is less technical than marketing. Unlike generation 12, which imposed the pro max to have the largest sensor within the main module, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max now share the same photo partition. No need to have a very large terminal to enjoy the best of Apple in photo.

Very good news for those who are afraid of the 240 g (without protective shell) of the iPhone 13 Pro Max (+12 grams compared to the 12 pro max). With its 204 grams, the iPhone 13 Pro may grow more than its big brother (+16g), but remains 15% lighter than Pro Max.
Ultra Grand Angle: more light and proxiphotography

If we do not yet have information on the size of the sensor (strongly that Ifixit is dismantling that), we nevertheless know that the angular coverage of the ultra-angle is unchanged from one generation to the other: the module remains a 13 mm equivalent. But the optics were background review.

On the one hand, it is almost twice brighter, going from f/2.4 to f/1.8. With such a small sensor (probably the same 1/3.6 ’’ of the previous generation), it is notable theoretical progress since it makes it possible to lower a notch the rise in ISO with equivalent equivalent equivalent. On the other hand, the other progress announced is that optical design has a “macro” configuration. Or rather proxiphotography, since the magnification ratio is far from 1: 1 but you understood the principle: the ultra large angle allows to make the development much closer.

As for the macro function, it is first necessary to name it better. It is more a proximpiography mode than enjoying an interesting growing ratio. We may be close to subjects, we do not “go” as much in details as with a real macro optics. And for good reason: the angular coverage is far too wide !
If you are going to take a look at the macros optics for “real” cameras, none is ultra-angle. Besides, none is even “much angle”, these are at best so-called “standard” focal lengths (50 mm or equivalent), or even telephoto lens. The effect that this capacity for proxiphotography is improved can be really pleasant depending on the nature of the subject and according to the placement of light compared to it.

On the image quality side in “normal” use, the rise in sensitivities is always the big weak point of (too small) sensor. In very low lights the photos, although perfectly exposed and with great color fidelity, display a level of smoothing of important details. And in broad daylight, if the level of detail is pretty good (although always very smoky), digital noise in dark areas is high.
Great angle: always solid and super fast

More light, it is also the slog of the sensor of this main module. Still in 12 Mpix, still mechanically stabilized, always coupled with an equivalent 26 mm optics, this new sensor is 25% larger than that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max (which was already larger than those of iPhone 12).
To this surface supplement is added a slight improvement in the opening value of the optics diaphragm. When we say light, it is an understatement since we go from f/1.6 to f/1.5 – But any progress is good to take, the rise in sensitivity is not the strong point of the iPhone 12 (7th of our annual top 10 of smartphones in photo).

In practice, it is always the best module of the three available, which is logical given its size and its mechanical stabilization which guarantees a better level of sharpness (and less digital noise). It is always as fast to make the focus and the colors and the exhibition are, as we will talk about it further, even better.

In terms of low lights, there is a little progress, but it is above all to put in credit for the quality of color interpretation. On the digital noise side, if you feel an improvement in certain areas, progress is more marginal.
Telephoto: a little more zoom (but not yet enough)

On paper, Apple made a somewhat daring bet with the telephoto lens. Bedwards of other modules, the telephoto leds luminosity on all floors. On the one hand, its growing power goes from a 65 mm equivalent (iPhone 12 pro max) to 77 mm – narrower angular cover implies less light collected. On the other hand, the opening value drops 2/3 of stop from f/2.2 to f/2.8 – In French, that means that the optics collects 66% less light.

On the ground, the zoom supplement effectively allows to tighten the faces a little. But it is too little to make a real difference from the previous generation – not to mention Android.

It is clearly missing a module whose focal length would be between a 150 mm equivalent, even 240 mm, as we find elsewhere. The lack is significant when we place ourselves from the point of view of the tourist who wants to capture landscapes, architectural details, or from the point of view of the parent who wants to immortalize a sporting action of his marmot. In these two areas, the 77 mm equivalent is a little too fair.
Apple, the king of colors … and the exhibition

All modules combined, the iPhone 13 pro (max) is, even more than its ancestor on 12 pro Max, the undisputed king of color fidelity. And now also the quality of exhibition: its coupled algorithms and its image processor produce ideally exposed shots almost each time each time. A real case of school, Apple still increases a notch in terms of rendering by completely eliminating the sometimes exaggerated side (or at least not 100% natural) of the HDR rendering. Difficult areas – under or overexposed – are now optimally adjusted.

Better yet: the photographic styles function is a software refining jewelry. Far from presenting simple color filters, this function (which activates while sweeping the image up and selecting the icon with three bunk squares) offers several starting bases for realistic, but pre-interpreted-renderings- standard, rich contrast, vibrant, hot and cold. Renderings on which the photographer can influence thanks to two knobs (tones and heat).
The maniacs of the control of the nature of the image may blame that there are only two configurable elements, but this limit avoids being lost in the functions. Only regret: photographic styles do not have (yet ?) been worn for iPhone 12.
But also the king of smoothing details !

With colored shots and impeccable exposure, the iPhone 13 has something to seduce … when we are content with consumption and an appreciation of this quality on a small screen. Because, as for the previous generation – and the previous one, and the previous one, etc. – Once the image is examined, the smoothing of the details is strong. Too strong.
Yes, good photogravers are able to make very large prints on the basis of the shots of the iPhone. But without their software and their knowledge, the files remain desperately flat – lacks modeled and dive – and far too smoothed.
If the smoothing is less marked on the main module, even he does not support the comparison compared to the competition which calls for more richer -ricked sensors at the time of the capture.
The limits of the 12 Mpix native sensor
For an output definition fixed at 12 Mpix, there are two schools in terms of choosing sensors.
On the one hand, the Americans of Apple and Google count on sensors whose definition is 12 Mpix, favoring less numerous, but larger photodidodes.
On the other, there are the Asians of Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and others which select sensors ranging from 48 Mpix to 108 Mpix, which combine the information from 4 to 9 photodiodes to make a single pixel.
While its image processor (ISP) is super efficient and even based on the excellent science of Apple colors, the iPhone 13 Pro cannot make images with a model, a bit, a bit depth as good as those produced by matt terminals 40 pro or Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Same observation in terms of low lights: digital noise reduction is much better in Asian manufacturers.
If there is obviously questions about the intrinsic quality of Apple’s optics – especially in the face of Huawei’s dive and precision jewels – it seems to us, however, that mass is well said in terms of pixels of pixels. In the field of smartphones, very dense pixel sensors using over-sample are more effective than less defined sensors with larger photodiodes.
Image quality: facing the iPhone 12 Pro Max

Compared to its ancestor, the iPhone 13 pro (and pro max) brings the macro mode in ultra grand angle, some progress in low lights, a small supplement of zoom power and especially photographic styles. Is it enough to justify the terminal change ? If you shoot a lot with your smartphone and it is your main camera, you will appreciate these improvements – as well as the video advances, voluntarily not approached in this test test.
But if you want to feel a big leap forward or that the photo is only one function among all the others, then the quality jump is not enough to justify blowing the bank.
Image quality: Facing the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g

Brand symbol of Android, Samsung is not only the world number 1 of smartphones, but also one of the champions of the segment of the segment. His position as leader in the image, he owes it in particular to his semiconductor division, of which hundreds of millions of sensors come out every year-behind Sony, Samsung is the world number 2 CMOS sensors. Third in our ranking of the best photo smartphones (behind Huawei and the “blow” of Xiaomi, the Mi 11 Ultra) The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is one of the flagships of the Android team, and stands head -on against Apple Apple. With a very different score, since Samsung puts camera modules with shovel: with 13 mm, 24 mm, 72 mm and 240 mm equivalents, in addition to a module dedicated to AF, the ultra galaxy s21 is more supplied. In terms of colors and responsiveness, the advantage is rather on the side of Apple – but not much. In terms of digital noise, the results vary according to the focal lengths.
But on the side of telephoto lens, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G the advantage, both in the 72 mm portrait mode and on the scope of its 240 mm equivalent – also usable in portrait, but with a lot of light.
Image quality: Facing the Huawei Mate 40 Pro

Deprived of the Google and latest generation flea services, Huawei is now in the strings – its market share is massively eroding, even in its domestic market. A setback that should not make us forget that Chinese is the master of the photo on smartphone: since the P30 Pro in 2019, Huawei has always been placed 1st of our top 10 photo. And the Mate 40 Pro has sunk this year with greater mastery of colors and a level of details and optical quality that leaves everyone behind – his only real Achilles heel being the Autofocus.
On the exhibition side and autofocus, the advantage is at Apple: the iPhone 13 pro (max) is faster and is less betrayed by the lights – but you can compensate by hand or overexposing. On the other hand, in terms of pure image quality, level of details, noise in low lights and optical precision, Huawei is still far ahead.
Without forgetting that its giant ultra-angle sensor, although endowed with a less wide vision, is simply the best in the world. And that its zoom power is, again, superior.
Obvious software domination, sensors to be renewed
The iPhone 13 Pro (Max) remains a terminal that offers a solid photographic partition. Its autofocus is a reference, its colors and the quality of the ITOU exposure measurement and the software integration is excellent. The arrival of “photographic styles” is a welcome addition to the “photo” application, and we regret that Apple has not yet deployed it on the terminals of the previous generation – even if we doubt that it happens. Progress compared to the previous generation is however only detectable by users who will have intensive use of their terminal.
But faced with Android competition, the iPhone still suffers from a low zoom power. And above all a lack of modeling, depth and wealth of details and a much higher noise level.
In our opinion, the Apple Achilles heel is to be found on the side of the conservatism of the company in its camera modules: its sensors remain too small (especially in ultra large-angle) and blocked at 12 Mpix, even though Several years of competition in 48 Mpix, 50 Mpix, 64 Mpix and 108 Mpix have proven that it is better over-sampling to obtain better shots at 12 Mpix.
With its software mastery, Apple could lead the competition next year if its engineers decide to switch to denser sensors. In the meantime, the iPhone 13 pro (max) remains an excellent terminal, but the Android competition opposite is tough. Except in terms of video, where Apple dominates outrageously, again for software reasons. But this is another story, another test !
IPhone 13 test: progress mentioned very well
Identical to the iPhone 12 outside, the iPhone 13 is indeed a whole new model inside. Apple saw its copy again to correct many shortcomings or approximations of the predecessor in order to make the newcomer an excellent smartphone which does not have much to envy the pro.

Apple iPhone 13
June 08, 2023 08/06/2023 • 03:30
Apple refines its recipe from year to year without trying to bet on “waouh” innovation to boost its product. The firm prefers to focus on the improvements and adjustments of the existing before upsetting everything. This is exactly the mission that seems to be attributed to this iPhone 13, worthy successor on the form and bottom of the iPhone 12. He is not there to play elbows with the pro range to which he nevertheless makes some interesting borrowings in photo without walking on his bedbags.
The iPhone 13 is there to be the right compromise in size (like that of the iPhone 13 Pro), with the minimum necessary greatly improved in photo (still not the telephoto of pro, but stabilization on the main sensor) to satisfy the biggest number. To this is now added a doped autonomy for the happiness of users. The perfect combo for those who want the essentials without making the bill flare ? Response.

Apple iPhone 13 Design
We don’t change a recipe that works. The iPhone 13 takes line for line for the Fresh Design of the iPhone 12, inspired by that of iPad Pro, iPad Air and now iPad Mini. We therefore find a rectangular format with its right sides which give it a more square general look reminiscent of the iPhone 5 of yesteryear.
The iPhone 13 has brushed aluminum edges with color (black, blue, pink, bright or red white). The volume and silence buttons as well as the hatch for the SIM card are positioned on the left. Right, we find the ignition button that also melts in the color of the device. On the lower edge, the Lightning port is always unbeatable, surrounded by microphones and a stereo speaker, the other being at the top of the screen in the notch.

The device is slightly rounded at the angles. The grip is rather pleasant and it holds well, even in the smallest hands thanks to its “flat” format (146.7 mm x 71.5 mm x 7.65 mm)). No soap between your fingers like some devices and it turns out to be a reasonable weight, rather well distributed, but which has been overweight since last year (174 g against 164 g for the iPhone 12). As always at Apple, the finishes are neat and there are no elements that can interfere when it is held.
Like its predecessor, the iPhone 13 is IP68 certified, to prove that it is with dust and immersion up to 6 m under water for 30 minutes. But that should not encourage you to go to the diving at sea with, he does not like salt water. On the other hand, it will perfectly resist the fall of a coffee, a beer or any other liquid substance on its front. A short passage under clear water and a cloth will do the trick.

On the back, the particular coating of reinforced glass improves its resistance and also gives a nice appearance to the whole. It is always compatible with the Qi induction load via Magsafe, homemade magnetic technology. The apple logo therefore remains the only place where you can then admire your fingerprints with its shiny surface.
The photo module always occupies the corner at the top left, but, because of the new sensors (see below), it is more important than last year and almost comes to stall perfectly in the corner. It sports two sensors thicker than their predecessors, but arranged diagonally on a transparent glass base. If it is chosen above all for technical questions, it has the merit of stabilizing a little better the iPhone 13 posed on a table, even without shell. It does not switch if you try to tick it like this.

Bad news on the other hand: with the change of the photo module on the back, you can say goodbye to your iPhone 12 shells which are no longer suitable. You risk losing a bit of the bottom photo sensor if you still insist.
Apple iPhone 13 screen
The screen is always OLED (2532 x 1170 pixels, 460 ppi) – or Super Retina XDR as they say at Apple – and keeps its diagonal of 6.1 inch. This positions it level level at the heart of the iPhone 13 range, tied with the iPhone 13 Pro, but smaller than the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and larger than the iPhone 13 Mini and its 5.4 inch diagonal.
Finally a reduced notch
The great novelty is the decrease in the size of the notch that loses 20 %. It thus occupies much less space on the top of the screen (slightly more in thickness) without losing its main interest: the presence of the TrueDepth camera which allows ultra-secure facial recognition with its thousands of infrared points that will scan your face to better identify you. This is also where the facetime camera hides for selfies. To achieve this sleight of hand, Apple has in fact raised the speaker as close as possible to the upper edge to reposition all of the four sensors below when they were before on both sides of the loud speaker.

The screen is covered with the Ceramic Shield coating which provides him with any shock resistance to all kinds of shocks. But we have noted that if he does not succumb to the slightest fall, the screen more easily took the small daily scratches in your bag. Not enough to see anything on your screen anymore, but it marks more easily.
Overall, the touch screen remains of excellent quality. It is even brighter than last year and announces a maximum standard brightness of 800 cd/m² (against 625 last year) and up to 1200 cd/m² in brightness peak hdr. The contrast is the same as last year at 2,000,000: 1.
It is felt in particular outdoors and when you are in the sun. It is easier to read or watch video content. It must be said that the very effective anti -reflective coating is also very effective in addition. In addition, we take advantage of True Tone technology that adjusts the colors as a function of the ambient light. The function can be activated or not from the device control center (menu that lowers from the top). Some will tend to find the colors pulling too much to yellow, others to find them warmer. In the evening, the iPhone offers Night Shift mode (which can be activated even by day) to limit blue light on the screen.

No 120 Hz, no problem
Unlike the 120 Hz of iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 13 must be satisfied with a screen with the traditional refreshment rate at 60 Hz from Apple. It becomes rare to have such a low figure, but the apple brand has been able to optimize it to make navigation fluid. This is felt in particular when you cross the interface.
Note that compared to last year on the iPhone 12, many more applications have learned to manage the presence of the notch on larger screens. There are more rarely truncated displays. Call of Duty Mobile has learned to adapt your information to the screen and many games are not embarrassed. Netflix, like other streaming services, have chosen to add black bands on both sides.

Apple iPhone 13 software
Ah, iOS 15 ! Year after year, we keep praising the merits of the Apple interface that shines by its fluidity, its speed and its functional simplicity, even if everything is not free from certain reproaches.

We have concocted an article to you about the interface and the news provided by iOS 15, given in particular by a user who discovers the iPhone. There is a large part there on the protection of privacy and personal data if dear to Apple, but also the concentration mode which allows you to settle your availability and the possibility of joining yourself according to the moment of the day of the day. Live Text will allow you to translate any image, writing or indication, and even copy and paste it in a document more easily or to extract the image. This is added to the widgets introduced last year and refined with the last bone.
Several small operating tips are welcome, such as the possibility of reaching the upper part of the screen while holding the device in one hand. The haptic touch functionality provides rapid interactions with the different apps while keeping your finger pressed on the icon, on the lock screen as on the home page. You will be able to obtain contextual menus and therefore very practical shortcuts to functions that you frequently use in certain applications.
Apple iPhone 13 Performances
Once again, Apple put the package to offer the ultimate in its latest iPhone. Here is the A15 Bionic chip engraved in 5 nm with its 6 CPU cores (2 high performance, 4 efficiency) and its 4 GPU cores. Added to this is the famous Neural Engine which allows real -time adjustments of the iPhone thanks to its hundreds of thousands of billions of operations in the second and its machine learning even more efficient. He has 16 hearts capable of shooting like so many brains that multiply actions simultaneously to have almost always a step ahead of your expectations and wishes for. Its interest is felt in particular in the best management of the battery, the adaptation of the iPhone to your habits, the improvement of the text-to-Speech of Siri or the reactivity of.

Apple has never ceased to proclaim that its flea would kneel competition and it is not far from being true. It is obviously much more powerful than the A14 chip and ensures that its CPU can manage even more demanding tasks such as real -time recognition of an action. This makes it possible to follow the statistics of a basketball player, golf or tennis in real time by juggling between what the camera will enter as information and the translation by the A15 chip which will calculate in a flash all the compiled data. For example, it will be possible to know how fast a ball has been struck and where it fell.
In all our tests, augmented reality to furnish your living room with gourmet mobile games like Asphalt 8+, Sayonara Wild Heart or NBA 2K21, At the viewing of video, quick assembly on iMovie of 4K videos, opening of several applications, never the iPhone flanked. There is clearly the margin for more professional and demanding applications in resources than those that the majority of users will use.
The iPhone 13 also sees its storage capacity double and it’s not too early ! It is now available in 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB. All without changing the starting prices (from 909 euros).
Apple iPhone 13 Photo
This is one of the significant changes of this 2021 vintage, which earned it to be called iPhone 13 and not iPhone 12s. It may not be seen especially on the outside-even if the photo module takes a little thickness-but inside, Apple has done a little upheaval.
As we explained to you, it was now the high-angle and ultra-angle sensors that we found last year on the iPhone 12 Pro Max that appeared on the iPhone 13 as the iPhone 13 mini. Necessarily larger sensors (photosites of 1.7 µm) and which benefit from more light (Apple announces almost 50 % gain). Suffice to say that the GAP is substantial for the entrances to the high -end of Apple thanks to brighter and more detailed photos. The 0.2 mm of difference of thickness between the last two models are nothing on the sheet, but much more in the results.
There are now two sensors positioned diagonally, with stabilization directly on the Grand-Angle sensor as for the iPhone 12 Pro Max:

- A large 12 Mpx angle with an opening of f/1.6;
- an ultra-angle (x 0.5) of 12 Mpx with an opening of f/2.4 and a field of vision of 120 °;
- At the front: Camera TrueDepth 12 Mpx with f/2.2 opening.
The device also has a laser autofocus and an improved computational photography dose with the A15 Bionic chip to refine the image signal processor offered. In summary, the AI will learn how to photograph you to constantly adjust its results, with the help of the Smart HDR4 (extended dynamic range) and especially Deep Fusion (compilation of several shots taken simultaneously to assemble the best portions and merge). This year, the neural engine of the chip also manages to identify and separate in treatment the elements of your photos to better value them. It is quite striking as soon as you have several people whose faces come out in a brighter way, without betraying the overall light of the photo if some are a little more in the shade.

The AI of the iPhone is also noticeable in photos of people in movements or objects like a flame of candle that moves and will be captured “on the spot”. The iPhone knows better than any other to capture the moment of a person, an animal or an object in motion.

Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 13 better manages the backgrounds which tended to be often “burnt” if they were brighter. We have more details in the landscapes, which can now also be wider with the ultra-angle. So certainly the iPhone still tends to focus on your subject in the foreground to come out as best as possible and to “forget” a bit of work on the background. This is how some skies can not be really clear or the sun will burn everything.

There is still not a telephoto lens on the iPhone 13. It is therefore necessary to be satisfied with the passage x1 to x 0.5 for the ultra-angle. The rocking from one to the other is faster and more fluid than before with the presence of two buttons to do it instead of one on which it was necessary to type twice to change. The digital zoom up to 5x is possible, but qualitatively, you will quickly lose in the details.
