Our ranking of the best electric cars in 2022
100% electric models have seriously multiplied in recent times. Therefore, not easy to make a choice. We have selected the best models of the moment for you. follow the leader !
Driven by favorable legislation and context, electric cars saw their wings push in 2020, with an increase of 160 % of their sales in France. An absolute value to put into perspective given their low market share before and the chaotic character of the year in question, Spread between a first half -semester under confinement and a resumption of all veil outside to revive the economy to say the least disturbed. However, there is, a real explosion of sales of “zero emission”. An excellent dynamic which continued in 2021, to the point that their market share, which barely equaled 2% before the pandemic, is now close to 10%. But this growing curve is not only due to state aid, which have just been extended for 2022, it is also necessary to mention the increase in the number of models to the purchase. It’s simple, all categories combined and in all manufacturers, there are today almost 70 electric models available on the market. A choice so vast that there is something to seriously hesitate.
Our test and measurement method of electric cars
To help you in this choice, AM sifts a maximum of models throughout the year. As with thermal, in addition to trials in everyday life, We make electric tests and route battery under our Montlhéry battery in order to determine the actual autonomy. Of course, our protocol, however rigorous it is, is not a reflection of all drivers. But our towns, road and highway cycles allow us to make the distinction between these very different uses and to deduce an average. What are closer to reality but above all to gauge all the cars on an equal footing for maximum objectivity. Without forgetting that our figures remain much closer to reality than homologation protocols. Finally, in addition to autonomies, we measure the consumption in kWh of each model, to deduce a cost per kilometer. Again, we often come to numbers above on-board computers, But taking into account the consumption of the battery charger and all the control electronics, we measure the entire energy given in the battery to recharge it. It is this total quantity that you pay on your electricity bill at the end of the month.
Autonomy and energy management are therefore priority criteria in our ranking, even more than the simple driving pleasure. Because despite government promises, recharging electric cars remains a problem for their use.
1.What is the best electric city car ?
The Renault Zoé, from € 32,500

It is natural to find the Zoé at the top of the ranking of the best city cars. If he took a long time to take off the sales of his little electric released in 2013, the diamond has stored a lot of experience. Especially to develop a second generation, in clear progress. If you like its look, the Zoé is indeed an excellent companion on a daily basis. First, its autonomy is comfortable. Note however that the small “R110” engine offers much more in town. At the wheel, we were able to travel almost 400 km before the breakdown while the “R135” is barely 320 km. On the finishing side, the Zoé “2” has nothing to envy to cars a priori more rated. In the little ones, the Peugeot E-208 is undoubtedly its biggest rival. The lioness, with a lower center of gravity, is more fun to drive. But it is however less habitable and its autonomies are less good, which can still disturb daily.
If the wallet allows, you can also eye on the Honda E, Mini Cooper SE or BMW i3, which all three have a singular personality. Special mention to the Honda E whose interior looks more like that of a prototype than a real car. But the Japanese, the Englishman and the German, despite their high prices, are not the queens of autonomy, far from it. Of all small electricity, The Zoé is undoubtedly the best price ratio/services.
Its strengths
- Autonomy in town
- Successful braking dosage
- Softness of operation
Its weak points
- Mediocre charger yield
- Fast load 50 kW Maxi
- Perfectible driving position

Tesla Model 3, from € 43,800

The career of the Tesla Model 3 has something to intrigue. Long promised and expected, the “general public” sedan of the American firm began his career nicely. It was without counting on its restyling and a big drop in the entry -level versions, giving it access, in France, to the maximum CO2 bonus. With a new entry ticket at € 37,800, the “3” therefore has enough to run the heads. Because its autonomies are rather convincing and above all, its performances are above 3/4 of rolling gear in our cities. Add to that a slightly fascinating high-tech side, a mesh of superchargers still a little wide but more advanced than the others and we can easily understand that The American is now the best -selling electric car in Europe. We must obviously accept a manufacturing quality below the competition and a multimedia universe really apart.
In front of the Tesla, the Citroën Ë-C4, Cupra Born, BMW i4 and soon electric megane will try to exist, each in another register. Finally, only the VW ID.3 In its 77 kWh version, seems to be able to compete in the plane of the action department. Because on the driving side, the German is far from the account of the American.
Its strengths
- Autonomy with the big battery
- Unique atmosphere
- Amazing performance
- Driving
Its weak points
- Unworthy finish of the price
- Ergonomics to tame

Hyundai Kona 64 kWh, from € 44,100

In this category which has had many arrivals for a few months, it is not easy to see there always clearly. Especially since there are really something for all tastes and budgets. In the middle of this melee, it is the Hyundai Kona which obtains our votes. As often with Korean productions, you have to rent your very good energy management. This is found both from the point of view of autonomy and consumption. Comfortable in addition to being habitable despite a content template, the Hyundai SUV offers really appreciable versatility in this category of vehicles supposed to get rid of everyday journeys as small – or even large – escapades. Obviously, we can prefer his technical cousin Le Kia E-Niro, with very close services, or, in a completely different aesthetic genre, the Kia e-Soul. It is the latter who travels the most kilometers in one go. For these three models, make sure to choose the 64 kWh versions and not the 39 kWh.
If they can be attractive in their presentation, the French Peugeot E-2008 and DS 3 Crossback E-Tense are handicapped by their battery that is both smaller and their less good energy management. Result, a less significant radius of action and a higher cost at kilometers. Difficult to recommend them, even if they have undeniable assets to please you.
Its strengths
- Ray of action in town and on the road
- Obvious handling
- 5 year warranty
Its weak points
- Autonomy on a motorway still just
- Extension

You have finally decided to buy an electric car this year ?
But you are a bit lost among the multitude of new models on the market in recent years ?
No problem, we’ve get your back!
In this article, we have selected just for you the best 100% electric vehicles of the moment.
Volkswagen ID.3

It must be said that the ID.3 is not lacking in assets !
Compact outside, comfortable with leg space for everyone inside: the ideal mix to make this car an excellent companion for the city and the highway. Certainly one of the reasons why the Vereniging Zakelijke Rijders (renowned automotive magazine with our Dutch neighbors) elected the best electric car in the average segment.
So if you are looking for a futuristic and luxurious finish vehicle, the ID.3 may not be for you. But this solid medium -sized hatchback, with a free -free design, guarantees a pleasant driving experience for a relatively attractive price.
On the performance side:
Tesla Model 3

Here is a model that we no longer present, so it has become common to cross it on our roads. In recent years, Tesla has worked hard to produce this smaller and lighter model than the Model S. While the first generation of Model 3 had been somewhat criticized for a finish deemed insufficient, the new version was very well caught up.
The most striking changes ? The original finish with silver details has given way to a version with door handles and satin black details. And the heating system now works with a high energy efficiency heat pump instead of conventional electric heating.
In addition, the Model 3 finally has an automatic start !
We mentioned in a recently article, the Model 3 was the best -selling car in Europe in 2021. With an excellent range and a minimalist and elegant interior, it remains wanted even if more and more competitors worthy of the name arrive on the market
The Model 3 exists in three versions: Standard Plus Range, Long Range and Performance.
Tesla Model Y

Photo by Craventure Media on Unsplasphoto by Cranture Media on Unsplash
Did you know that the youngest model of the Tesla family was baptized there in order to form the acronym “S3xy” when we add the name of the 4 vehicles of the brand ? Nice wink that confirms the atypical identity of the Californian brand and the certain humor of its founder.
The model have a lot of common points with model 3: same kinematic chain, hyper fast recharge, automatic management option, excellent battery. As for the panoramic glass roof, it is a resemblance that he shares with the Model X.
This electric SUV is about 18 cm higher than the 3, with a larger chest and more leg space. Big family ? As an option, you can transform the Y into a seven -seater car, although the rear row may seem a little cramped for some. A tow bar is also available as an option.
Despite its family SUV side, the model develops impressive performance with an acceleration of 3.7 seconds.
Among its other protruding characteristics, note:
You are not a fan of Tesla, but you are looking for a comparable electric car ? Then think of the BMW IX3, the Hyundai Kona Electric or the Kia E-Niro.
Mercedes-Benz EQE

It is true that we are particularly a fan of the big brother eqs. Difficult to withstand an electric Mercedes-Benz with the appearance of a class S, a maximum speed of 210 km/h and a range of more than 600 km.
Nevertheless, the EQE does not have to be ashamed. Of a length (all the same) of almost 5 meters, it is a very beautiful electric sedan, with aerodynamic design and equipped with automatic doors.
In addition, with 450 liters of luggage in the trunk and which can accommodate four comfortably seated passengers, the EQE has more than sufficient characteristics for the average driver.
While the previous EQB, EQA and EQC electric models were all based on a common model for Mercedes thermal vehicles, the EQS was completely redesigned. Which makes it possible to obtain a more progressive design and a more pleasant driving experience. Here is one of the reasons why we prefer the EQS to the EQB.
On the performance side: ⚡
BMW i4

The BMW i4 is the fully electric replacement for the BMW i8, a successful hybrid car. In terms of appearance and character, the i4 is an almost accurate replica of the BMW 4 Gran Pépé à Pété.
You are more amateur of muscular and curling engines rather than the silence of electric vehicles ? BMW has hired the Oscar -winning composer Hans Zimmer to sound its electric vehicles in order to allow its customers to “live the joy of driving with all the senses”. Curious to listen to the result ? Click here
Two versions are available. EDRIVE40 has a rear traction and a single engine. The M50, more expensive, seduces with two electric motors, four -wheel drive and a towing bar. This makes these two cars of solid competitors for other brands in their respective price categories.
On the performance side: ⚡
Hyundai Ioniq 5

It has a retro look, this ioniq, with a wink reminiscent of the Hyundai Pony from the 1970s.
The first thing that strikes is the amount of space available. Lots of leg and head space and a lot of storage space. And to top it all, a trunk with a capacity of 531 liters. In this car, you will surprise yourself to wait with pleasure during the loading duration, thanks to the adjustable seats that you can easily transform into a lounge chair.
It also includes many gadgets and technical details, all intended to offer the driver a pleasant driving experience. Ideal for those who are often on the road.
Add the optional solar panels to this roof that offer you a few additional kilometers, and you have a friendly electric car with well thought out. In other words, a serious upgrade of the already solid Hyundai Koda Electric.
Interesting detail: the integrated V2L function allows you to load other electrical devices thanks to its reversible chargers. Never again laptop without battery !
On the performance side: ⚡
Nissan Ariya

A nissan leaf crossed with a Qashqai, this is how Vroom.Be described the new Nissan Ariya. Ariya is Nissan’s second entirely electric car.
This new model is built on a brand new EV platform. Buyers will benefit from Nissan’s latest safety and autonomous driving technologies. The car has a fully electric motorcycle group and a maximum power of 218 hp. On the highway, she has the ability to ride independently between the lines.
We believe that this robust SUV, with its dashboard with a clean design, will appeal to many people.
You often drive very busy ? No problem for Ariya, as it is equipped with a towbar which can tow up to 1500 kg.
The European market can choose from five different versions and six color combinations. On the performance side: ⚡
Skoda Enyaq IV

Skoda holds his first entirely electric SUV in him, with an affordable budget moreover.
The first thing that strikes when you are driving Enyaq is the height compared to the road. The car simply drives and easily, even if a more sporty driver will probably be disappointed by his couple. After all, Enyaq is a bit bulky and sensitive to road shocks.
That said, it is a reliable vehicle for you (and your family) in everyday life. Integrated technology and additional safety devices are the guarantee.
Equipped with a 585 -liter capacity trunk, Enyaq also has a very spacious cabin. You also have additional storage compartments throughout the car, including a special umbrella pocket in the front door.
On the performance side: ⚡
Audi Q4 e-tron

2022 seems to be the year of the SUV, and Audi does not give his share to the cat with the q4 e-tron.
Technically speaking, this car is almost the same as the Skoda Enyaq and the Volkswagen ID.4. It is mainly the finish and the character that make this car a real audi from start to finish. The interior, for example, was finished until the smallest detail.
Although outside this audi e-tron is smaller than the Audi Q5 and Q6 e-tron, inside it is simply more spacious. Add to that a 520 or 535 liter trunk volume and you get a very practical car. The Q4 also behaves very well on the road and is easily maneuverable.
Relatively large autonomy and the recovery of braking energy allow you to cover long journeys without concern.
Audi also offers an easy use system and clear sound sound speakers. Air conditioning has its own control panel. So you don’t need to scroll through the temperature quickly adjust.
On the performance side: ⚡
You prefer a Volvo ? The Volvo C40 recharging is quite close to the Q4, although it is less economical in fuel.
To monitor
With electrification, the automotive market enters a new era. Technology continues to progress.
More and more car brands are embarking on electric, whether by declining an existing thermal model, or with entirely new electric cars. One thing is certain: new 100% electric vehicles will flood the market in 2022 and beyond. And some of them are already intriguing us ..
Volkswagen I.D buzz

For nostalgic, we would like to mention the ID buzz. An entirely electric version of the emblematic VW bus from the 1960s and 1970s, it promises !
It will come into production this year and will be built on the MEB platform on which IDs are also built.3, ID.4 and the Audi Q4 e-tron. There would be two variants: one for passengers, and a cargo version.
Lightyear One

The startup Lightyear, from the Dutch city of Helmond, will release the “One”, a real solar car with long autonomy, at the end of 2022. This promises an average additional autonomy of 10,000 km per year under our weather conditions thanks to solar cells.
Sono Motors Sion

In Munich, we find another company that presented its own solar car. Their objective ? Offer the greenest possible electric car, at a very affordable price.
The Sono Motors Zion was announced years ago, but we are still waiting for its launch. While Lightyear One looks fairly futuristic, the Sion takes a very different path with a car that looks a lot like a Playmobil bus.
If the tastes cannot be discussed, it will nevertheless be interesting to see what cars like this Zion will bring to the automotive market.
Porsche Macan EV

A new version of the Porsche Macan, this time not for petrol, but to electricity. This compact SUV of Porsche will probably not enter production before next year (2023). So we are still waiting for more details.
Porsche promises good performance and excellent autonomy. We already know what the new Macan will look like, since a test car has been abundantly photographed when it broke down during a road test in winter 2021.
Mercedes EQXX

1,000 km – if it is not an impressive autonomy !? Mercedes unveiled its concept Vision EQXX at the beginning of 2022. EQXX has an appearance that is both retro and futuristic. Mercedes promises an unrivaled driving experience.
The EQXX should get out of the mounting chain in 2024. Precise specifications are not known to date.
Rimac nevera

The rimac nevera – which means “sudden storm” in Croatian – did not steal its name. This sports car reaches 100 km/h in about 1.9 seconds and has a top speed of 412 km/h. To do this, the Nevera has 4 motors, one for each wheel. Apart from that, he is certainly not unpleasant to look at.
Would you like to go to the office in a sports car made by this little Croatian manufacturer ? It will then be necessary to be ready to spend 2 million euros to acquire it. And do not wait too long to order, because only 150 of these cars will be sold.
Tesla Cybertruck

Announced a long time ago, but still not seen. The year 2022 should finally be the year of release, but in the meantime, Musk discreetly withdrawn this date of the website.
Who knows, maybe we will see the angular truck appear by the end of the year. If you wish, you can book your copy for 100 dollars on the website. If you change your mind, you are reimbursed.
Now, it’s your turn to play
Now that we have presented the best electric cars to you, it’s up to you to choose your favorite.
The ever-increasing offer may not make this choice easier. On the other hand, the chances of finding the ideal electric car increases, especially for a professional driver with specific needs and wishes.
And if the purchase seems too risky for the moment, leasing could be the ideal way to taste electric driving
With Lizy, of course !
What are you waiting for ? The electric car of your dreams is already waiting for you !
