Windows 11 Minimum Configuration required
In June 2021, Microsoft officially announced the release of Windows 11. To this end, he even published a program called PC Health Check so that users can know the preparations necessary for upgrading Windows 11 on their computers. Which also shows that Windows 11 has a certain threshold.
After having collected the comments of a large number of testers, Microsoft appropriately softens the restrictions on computer equipment, allowing unqualified computers to execute Windows 11 in the Insider program, but after the official release of Windows 11, The latter will still not be able to use Windows 11.
In other words, if you want to upgrade Windows 11, you must always respond to the minimum configuration required Windows 11, including the processor, memory, storage, system firmware, TPM, graphics card, The instructor, the Internet and MSA connection.
- CPU : a 64-bit (dual-core or multi-core) processor or a system on a chip (SOC) with a frequency of 1 GHz and more is required. If it is an Intel platform, you need an 8th generation or higher heart (some high-end 7th generation hearts are also supported); If it is an AMD platform, you need Ryzen 2 and higher; If it is a Qualcomm platform, you need Snapdragon 7C and more.
- Memory : 4 GB and more.
- Storage : 64 GB and more.
- System firmware : Support for secure starter UEFI.
- TPM : Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
- Graphic card : Direct x12 or superior is required; The WDDM 2 driver.0 and superior is required.
- Screen : 720p high definition display, the diagonal size is greater than 9 inches and each color channel is 8 bits or more.
- Internet connection/MSA : all Windows 11 update versions, downloading and using certain functions require Internet access. The upgrade of Windows 11 Home Edition requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account (MSA) to complete the parameters of the device. In addition, the use of certain Windows 11 functions also requires a Microsoft account.
We can see that the relaxation of Microsoft’s material restrictions relates mainly to the CPU. To be precise, he expanded the support of Intel Core X and Zhiqiang W series processors. At the same time, the Intel Core 7820HQ used by Surface Studio 2 also entered the support list, the only regret is perhaps that the first generation of AMD Ryzen does not appear in the Windows processor support list 11.
Why respond to the minimum required configuration is necessary to upgrade Windows 11 ?
In fact, there are ways to install Windows 11 on these computers that Microsoft identifies as “obsolete”, but this can cause problems with the operation of Windows 11. That explains why you have to meet the minimum system requirements to upgrade to Windows 11. If the minimum Windows 11 configuration is not filled, in addition to affecting stability, will also be affected the safety and compatibility.
◈ Stability : According to the test data collected by Microsoft, force the upgrade to Windows 11 without responding to the minimum required configuration will result in a 52% increase in the number of planks of the kernel of the device upgraded. And the execution of Windows 11 on a device that meets the required minimum configuration can make it possible to obtain an experience without planting at 99.8 %.
◈ Safety : For security reasons, Windows 11 has considerably adjusted the material requirements. In recent years, cyber attacks on a global scale have gradually multiplied. Microsoft collected 8.2 Billion Information on Microsoft threats worldwide. After joining expert opinions such as the National Cyber Security Center of the United Kingdom and the Canadian Cyber Security Center, he improved Windows 11’s default safety configuration to further improve the Windows safety basis to cope with growing security threats.
◈ Compatibility : Nowadays, more and more people use videoconference, production tools and PC games. To ensure that Windows 11 devices can meet these requirements, Microsoft has defined a minimum configuration required to improve hardware compatibility. In other words, Microsoft has established a new reference with minimum system requirements so that you can gently use videoconference, productivity tools and game -related applications as long as your computer can meet the minimum configuration required Windows 11.
If you want to make sure that your computer runs Windows 11 suitably, you must respond to the minimum system configuration required, then how to upgrade a PC that is not yet compatible with Windows 11 ? This is also the question that many want to know. In the following, I will show you how to respond to the minimum required configuration of Windows 11.
What to do to answer the Windows 11 minimum configuration required ?
Windows 11 Required minimum configuration includes 8 aspects: CPU, memory, storage, system firmware, TPM, graphics card, monitor, Internet/Microsoft account, including architecture, compatibility, core number and processor frequency , DirectX + WDDM2, Memory and available disk capacity are key content. We will present each content separately, so that everyone can understand the method of updating the content to ensure that it can respond to the minimum required configuration of Windows 11.

- 3. Store updates
- 4. System firmware update
- 5. TPM Update
- 6. Graphics card update
- 7. Screen upgrade
- 8. Internet connection and Microsoft account creation
1. Processor update
The processor is the central component of a computer, and it is also a necessary condition for upgrading Windows 11. If your computer is Intel Core 6th generation and lower, or first -generation AMD Ryzen, you must update the processor to meet the minimum required configuration of Windows 11. Then, the architecture, the compatibility, the number of cores of the processor and the clock speed will be separated in order to upgrade the processor in a targeted manner.
Architecture (CPU+OS)
64 -bit architecture required By Windows 11 means that the processor and the operating system can process 64 -bit data at once. More specifically, a processor with a 64 -bit architecture refers to a processor with a 64 -bit processing technology.
In other words, the width of data from the GPR (general registers) of the processor is 64 bits, which can theoretically reaching 17 million TO of treatment capacity To offer excellent performance. And the 64 -bit operating system is based on a 64 -bit processor, fully benefiting from its performance in terms of performance to obtain the best multimedia content treatment performance.
Among the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, 64 -bit architecture is a necessary condition. In other words, if the operating system of your computer is 32 bit, you must format the hard drive before you can install Windows 11; If the processor of your computer is 32 bit, you must replace the processor. The required minimum configuration of Windows 11 is only satisfied when the computer processor and OS both have a 64 -bit architecture.
CPU compatibility
We are talking about the CPU model installed on the computer. A few months ago, Microsoft announced the minimum configuration required for Windows 11, including a CPU compatibility list, but after a series of tests, Microsoft made some modifications to the compatibility list. The main target is the Intel platform. Here is a brief presentation of the Windows 11 processor compatibility list.
If your computer processor is a Intel platform, Here are the compatible models with Windows 11:
- Intel Core X series, Zhiqiang W series, including Intel Core 7820HQ
- Intel processors of 8th generation of office and mobiles (Coffee Lake, Whiskey Lake, Amber Lake)
- Intel processor of 9th generation of office (Coffee Lake Refresh)
- Intel processors of 10th generation of office and mobile (Comet Lake, Ice Lake, Amber Lake)
- Intel processors of 11th generation of office and mobile (Tiger Lake)
If your computer processor is a AMD platform, Here are the compatible models with Windows 11:
- AMD Ryzen 2000 office processors (Zen+, Zen)
- AMD Ryzen 3000 and mobiles AMD processors (Zen 2, Zen+)
- AMD Ryzen 4000 and mobile AMD processors (Zen 2)

Different from the X86/X64 architecture used by Intel and AMD, the processor Qualcomm use Arm architecture. Here are the compatible models with Windows 11:
- Snapdragon 850
- Snapdragon 7C
- 8C muffler
- Snapdragon 8CX
- Snapdragon 8CX (second generation)
- Microsoft SQ1
- Microsoft SQ2
Compatibility with Windows 11 is also a strict requirement. The processor of your computer must appear in the compatibility list to be able to be upgraded properly. Otherwise, please update the processor based on the compatibility list.
Number of processor cores
This is the amount of tasks that the processor can manage at the same time. The number of chips that process data on the processor is fixed. This number of physical hearts is also called hearts. Single-core means that the processor has only one heart and dual-core means that the processor has two cores.
Among the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, dual-core and superior requirements must be met to successfully upgrade Windows 11. But don’t worry, there are almost no single-core processors on the market. If the processor of your computer appears on the compatibility list, this means that the processor of your computer must be in Dual-Core or higher. If the processor of your computer cannot really meet the requirements of the dual-core and above, it is recommended to replace the processor directly.
Processor frequency
This is the speed at which the processor process the tasks. The main frequency refers to the processor clock frequency, as all computer operations are carried out in stages under the clock signal control, and each clock signal cycle ends an operation, so that The level of the clock frequency reflects the speed of the CPU to a large extent the speed.
Among the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, it is necessary to meet the frequency requirements of 1 GHz and more in order to successfully upgrade Windows 11. Now there are no more processors with a clock speed of 1 GHz or less on the market. If the processor of your computer is on the compatibility list, this means that the processor clock of your computer must be greater than 1 GHz. If the processor of your computer cannot really reach the frequency of 1 GHz and more, it is recommended to replace the processor directly.
2. Memory update
Memory is one of the important components of a computer, also called internal memory and main memory. It is mainly used to temporarily store CPU calculation data and exchange data with external memory such as hard drives. As a bridge between the processor and external storage, memory affects the overall operating speed of the computer.
Currently, the main memory size on the market is DDR4 8 GB, and the minimum Windows 11 configuration required is 4 GB and more. We can say that most computers will not encounter bottlenecks of memory. If your computer is old and does not meet the memory requirements, you can directly buy 4 GB USB keys or 8 GB after confirming that motherboard memory can increase capacity and install it to meet the configuration minimum windows 11.
3. Store updates
The minimum available disc capacity required for Windows 11 is 64 GB and more, which can be reached in normal circumstances, but it should be noted that if you want to go directly from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you must make sure that The free space of D disc is greater than 30 GB. The verification method is as follows:
Use the “Windows + E” key combination to open workstation, you can display the total size of the disk and the available space of the C player.
What if your computer’s C player lacks space ? The problem can be resolved by extending the space of the C player, migrating the system disk and migrating other applications.
4. System firmware update
UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), is a standard that describes in detail a new type of interface and is also a standard micrologie interface adapted to computers.
The goal :
◈ Improve the interactivity and execution of software.
◈ Make the initialization material and the start of simple and fast systems.
◈ Resolve the limitations provided by the BIOS and possibly replace the inherited mode.
Secure starter is a functionality of UEFI which can help computers defend themselves against infected attacks and software. In the minimum required configuration of Windows 11, it is clearly indicated that the computer must support the UEFI secure starter, which also reflects the security of Windows 11.
When installing Windows 11, you will enter the BIOS settings. It would be necessary to modify the traditional start -up of the BIOS inherited to UEFI, and at the same time convert the MBR format to the GPT format (Guid), then perform a secure start to succeed in Windows 11 installation.
5. TPM Update
The Trusted Platform Module (TPM, literally the reliable platform module) is a cryptographic standard for cryptoprocessors (microcontroller dedicated to securing a system by integration of encryption keys into the equipment), on which the implementation is based at the material level of a NGSCB system.
TPM also has a version upgrade. The latest version is TPM 2.0, which requires that the motherboard support the chips TPM 2.0. Among the minimum requirements of the Windows 11 system, TPM 2.0 is a requirement that must be completed. Although there are ways to get around this requirement, it is not recommended to do so for reasons of stability and safety.
If your computer does not support TPM 2.0, it is recommended to replace the motherboard. Currently, the list of supported motherboards announced by the three brands of front line Mother ASUS, Giga and MSI is as follows:
Asus : For the Intel platform, except for the mother cards in the 100 series, all the others support TPM 2.0; For the AMD platform, only Mère Cards in the 300 and upper series support TPM 2.0.
Gigantry : Intel chipsets supporting TPM 2.0 include the X299, C621, C232, C236, C246, 200, 300, 500, 500; AMD chipsets supporting TPM 2.0 include the TRX40, 300, 400, 500 series.
MSI : For the Intel platform, mother cards from the 100 series support TPM 2.0; AMD platform, only Mères cards in the 300 series and more support TPM 2.0.
6. Graphics card update
The full name of DirectX is Direct Extension, which is a multimedia programming interface created by Microsoft. It belongs to an application programming interface (API). The DirectX 12 mentioned in the minimum required configuration of Windows 11 is not a graphics card model, but refers to the management of the graphics card. API DirectX 12.
The full name of WDDM is Windows Display Driver Model, which is the new generation of Microsoft graphical pilot model. From Windows Vista, it supports WDDM 1.0, at Windows 7, it supports WDDM 1.1, at Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, it supports WDDM 1.2/1.3, and Windows 10 supports WDDM 2.0. Therefore, when WDDM is in version 2.0, DirectX 12 can be supported.
In addition to the detection tools, you can also check if the computer supports DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0 depending on the following methods:
Step 1. Press the key Windows + R To open the execute dialog box, enter dxdiag and click on OK.
2nd step. In the contextual window, click on Yes.
Step 3. In the DirectX diagnostic tool interface, click the tab Display And search for ” Functionality levels ” and the ” Pilot model In the pilot section. The functionality levels indicate whether the graphics card material supports DirectX 12; The WDDM version represents the support systems.
Normally, the computers on which Windows 10 is installed should support DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0. If your computer does not support it, simply update the graphics card driver
7. Screen upgrade
Among Windows 11 Minimum Configuration required, some requirements are also defined for display, that is to say a high definition screen (720p) with a diagonal of more than 9 inches and each color channel is 8 bits. This is a necessary condition, but it can be fulfilled in most circumstances. If you can’t, you are advised to replace the screen.
8. Internet connection and Microsoft account creation
It’s very simple, your computer must be able to access the Internet. Regarding the creation of a Microsoft account, simply go to the official Microsoft website, click Create a Microsoft account and follow the instructions to register.
