Windows 10 ISO: Download a free system image

You need an official Windows copy, to install, reinstall or repair the system ? Download an ISO image directly to the Microsoft website: it’s simple and free !

  • What is an ISO image ?
  • Recover official and free ISO from Windows
  • Download the Windows 10 ISO
  • Download an ISO from another version of Windows
  • Open an ISO image

It is far away when Windows was provided on CD or DVD ! Since these venerable optical supports have practically disappeared from traffic – both for their slowness and their low storage capacity – everything is now going with files. Or, more exactly, ISO images.

What is an ISO image ?

Contrary to what its appellation can suggest, an ISO image is not an image. It is in fact an integral copy, identically – hence the term “ISO”, which comes from “equal”, in Greek -, a disc. This file, decked out .ISO, contains everything necessary for the installation and use of software, a game, a video, or, in this case, an operating system.

The interest ? The simplicity ! Because even if it appears as a single file, an ISO image contains hundreds or even thousands of files, organized in the same way as if they were on a DVD, with folders and sub-folders. In short, it’s an all-in-one file.

How to recover official and free ISO from Windows ?

For a few years, and like other operating systems, Windows has been available in digital, in a dematerialized version, in the form of an ISO file. Microsoft offers ISO images of practically all Windows versions for free download on its servers. The good news is that these iso are free ! Obviously, you must have a valid license key to be able to use a Windows version recovered in this way. But Windows 7 or 8 keys.1 or a version of Windows 10 already installed are valid as soon as we use the new version on the same C.

A practical solution since we can therefore keep an official copy of Windows on a disk or a USB key to serve it if necessary, whether to install, reinstall or repair the system. Microsoft goes even further, by offering a special tool allowing you to download and copy directly an ISO of Windows to a USB key – sufficient capacity -, key with which it is possible to start a PC – we then speak of “bootable” key “”.

How to download the Windows 10 ISO ?

No need for a special code or software to download an ISO image on Microsoft servers: just use a web browser and have enough space on a disk or a USB key to save the file – 8 GB are recommended.

  • With your web browser, go to the special Microsoft page called Download a Windows 10 disk image.
  • If you use a PC already operating Windows 10, Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, we will automatically offer you two options: update Windows or download the Microsoft tool for the creation of media from a USB key or DVD.

To download the ISO of Windows 10 directly, go through a computer operating under another operating system or a mobile device (tablet or telephone), or, better still, make it believe in the server. Manipulation varies according to the browser used.

  • With Chrome, open the development tools with the keyboard shortcutCtrl + Maj + I, pass in mobile mode With the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Maj + M, Select a mobile device, then recharge the page with The F5 key.
  • With Firefox, go into adaptive view with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Maj + M, Select a mobile device, then Recharge the page with The F5 key. To be able to use the form fields, then deactivate the simulation of touching events by clicking on the icon Hand.
  • With Edge, open development tools with the key F12, Then select a Microsoft mobile in the tab Emulation.
  • Whatever the method used, you are completing on a page authorizing the download of an ISO of Windows 10.

Once the download is finished – the duration varies depending on the type of internet connection – you get a file .ISO containing the Windows 10 version that you chose.

How to download an ISO from another version of Windows ?

On its servers, Microsoft only offers the most recent version of Windows 10. But it is possible to find old versions on specialized sites. This is particularly the case of Adguard.Net, which gives access to ISO many Microsoft products, such as preversions from the Windows Insider program or even virtual machines with Windows XP or Windows 7 ! The interface is austere and old -fashioned, but the download is simple.

  • With your web browser, go to Adguard.net.
  • Click on the flag At the top right of the page to pass the interface in French.
  • In the form, successively select the type of product (final Windows, preferably), the version (Windows version 1909, for example), publishing (Windows), language and architecture (32 bit or 64 bit) in The menus associated with the different fields.
  • A link is automatically generated. Click on the button Download To launch the download. Be careful, again, this link is temporary, with a date and an hour of expiration !

How to open an ISO image ?

An ISO image manipulates like any other file. It can be copied and move it to a folder or on a disc with all the usual methods. Be careful however, because the ISO images of Windows-like that of certain software and video games-weigh several giga-cotts. You must therefore be sure you have enough space available on a support to store them. But also check that the file system used on said support accepts large files. Thus, a USB key formatted in FAT32 will not accept one more file 4 GB – which is the case with the ISO of Windows 10, which exceed 5 GB -, even if there is enough space available !

To use an ISO image, nothing could be simpler. With Windows 10, a double click is enough to open it in the explorer. The ISO image therefore appears as a virtual CD-DVD reader-it is said that the image is “mounted” on a reader-and we can and see its content, but also launch the programs it contains, in particular the Setup.EXE which is used to initialize the installation in the case of an ISO of Windows – or another application. On the other hand, one cannot save or move to an ISO, since it is considered as a CD-DVD type disc intended only for reading.

With older versions of Windows, it’s barely more complicated. With Windows 7, for example, right -click on ISO image in the file explorer, select the option Choose a reader letter and go up In the context menu. Then choose A reader letter then click on OK. The ISO image immediately appears as a virtual CD-DVD player with the chosen letter. You can use it as a disc. With Windows XP, you must use special software, such as ISO Mounter, WincDemu, Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools Lite, for example, which perform the same operation.

                  Good morning,
I installed Windows 10 but I have no more changing pictures when I turn on my pc I have no more changing pictures like the image ?
                  Can you put it back
                  Thanks in advance

Personally, I liked the animation of the boot logo under Windows 7. Unfortunately, it is impossible to have an animated logo on the upper versions.

I re-tested the ISO Windows 10 Pro 21:2:2 PM: this time, the hash is correct. But if I am your tutorial to check the Windows version no version by DISM, I get 10.0.19041 (corresponding to a 2004 version) and not 19044 as expected for a 9:2 p.m.
I had downloaded a few days ago the same version of Windows 9:2 p.m. via the Microsoft Media Creation Tool tool: I also obtained in the ISO a 19041 version (it is also the visible version in the properties of ‘tool)
For these two ISOs, I have the same level of service pack (1288), the same number of files and folders. I found an ISO 8:10 p.m., which also has the No 19041 in version, but a lower service version. On the Microsoft Https: // Docs site.microsoft.com/[. ] E-Health/Release-Information
I notice that 1288 is the initial level of service for version 21:2:2. It is also indicated that we can update around version 21:2 am since the 2004 version by an activation package and that the 2004 versions at 9:2 p.m. share a common trunk. From the above, it seems that the version of Windows 10 resumed in an ISO is that of the first version of all those with a common trunk, with the Pack service for the only indicator of change change? Has it always been so or not (I have never used Windows 10 before), or is it a bug ? (which would be quite huge) In conclusion, my ISO is a real 9:2 p.m. or a 2004 ?

Hello, Thank you for the info of hash ..
I downloaded the version 21:2:2 am 64 bit and found a Sha-256 completely different from yours (I recalculated the hash 3 times and I obtained the same result)
                  Addf969a6f4acbd3887fe47c045d47734efa6f79bd4c6653b2b328038517c
Instead of the one you indicate
                  2cc9731EE278666A632BDF5944105FC5F215F59CED98D75AECCF8185BD5BCA3A
My connection being slow (but reliable), it takes long hours to download an ISO of this size (around 5 hours): Could you confirm the SHA-256 before I resolved to renew the download ? thanks in advance
Annex question: Do you know why Microsoft does not give Hash information for ISOs downloaded from the Media Creation Tool tool ?

Hash information is missing for the 21:2:2 hour version, you could add them ? thanks in advance
