Wi-Fi calls: call thanks to the WiFi network

Wherever you are in mainland France, at home or outside, take advantage of Wi-Fi calls to make and receive voice calls from a WiFi network, when your mobile does not capture any mobile network.

You don’t need to install an application to take advantage of the Wi-Fi call service. You must, to benefit from it, be equipped with a compatible mobile and activate the functionality in your mobile settings.

All Orange and Sosh packages are compatible with the Wi-Fi calls service.

Once the service is activated on your mobile, all your calls go priority through the WiFi network. If there is no WiFi network available, it is the mobile network that sees the call.

Prerequisites and activation

Prerequisite

Wi-Fi calls are a characteristic indicated in the technical compatible mobile sheet. You can consult your mobile technical sheet in your customer area.

It is necessary to install the latest software version of your mobile.

Find the “Update the software version” procedure by entering the brand and the model of your mobile here: Orange helps you with your mobile (in the maintenance theme)

Activation

In order to benefit from Wi-Fi calls, you must be connected and authenticated to a WiFi network.

You can use the Wi-Fi calls from any type of WiFi network in mainland France: Livebox, Orange WiFi, but also public hotspots and all boxes of other Internet providers.

With the Wi-Fi calls, Orange may have to use smartphone location information provided by the manufacturer to allow the delivery of emergency calls to the right call center.

Once the Wi-Fi calls have been activated, your calls received and issued will automatically make through the WiFi network to which you are connected, without action on your part. From this moment the mobile network bars are no longer taken into account by your mobile to make your calls, it is the quality of your WiFi at home that takes over.

Your correspondent does not need the Wi-Fi calls to receive your calls or join you when you have activated the service.

Use assistance

Here are some recommendations to improve the quality of your Wi-Fi calls if necessary:

  • Update your mobile or restart it regularly.
  • Check that you are both authenticated on a WiFi network and that the Wi-Fi call feature is activated.
  • Test by deactivating bluetooth mode in your mobile settings.
  • The quality of the service is linked to the quality of the WiFi network, remember to optimize your WiFi network at home !
If you are an Orange Internet customer, the solutions are here
  • Test the “favorite mobile network” setting

For some mobiles there are 2 call management methods:

  • Favorite WiFi network: calls and SMS go primarily through the WiFi network
  • Favorite mobile network: calls and SMS go primarily through the mobile network even if wifi is activated on the terminal

“Favorite WiFi network” is the default mode at Orange, but depending on the configuration and level of mobile coverage of your home, the “favorite mobile network” mode can improve the voice quality of your calls.

The selection of this mode is done in smartphone settings, in the same place as activation of Wi-Fi calls. Once the feature is activated, another window appears with the “favorite WiFi network” mode checked by default. Choose “favorite mobile network” (you can always come back to uncheck this parameter if you do not see any improvement). In the event of the absence or loss of the mobile network, calls will then make on the WiFi network.

This parameter is available on a hundred models from the following manufacturers: Samsung, Oppo and Xiaomi.

With SOSH, we call France for free from abroad in Wi-Fi

The Libon app for iPhone and Android smartphone allows SOSH subscribers, connected to wifi abroad, to call for free and mobile in France.

To short-circuit the cost of mobile homelessness abroad when it is called France, Sosh (Orange group) provides a smartphone application for smartphone.

Average a free Wi-Fi connection in the place where it is (hotels, house, coffee, etc.), and downloading the Libon application, available under iOS and Android, the SOSH subscriber can call for free in mainland France And unlimited, ordinary fixed and mobile telephone numbers (in 06).

At the other end of the line, the attached correspondent does not need the libon application concerned. Free SMS/MMS sending from abroad to France is, however, not affected by this offer.

Please note, some free Wi-Fi networks can sometimes block the call that uses, via Libon application, a protocol transmitting voice by package on the Internet.

To call a number located abroad (among the list of eligible destinations), you must have previously subscribed to the option International Billed 5 euros/month offered by the operator for several months.
