World of Warcraft (Wow)

World of Warcraft (WOW) is a massively multiplayer online role -playing game (or, in English, MMORPG) developed by the American studio Blizzard Entertainment. This type of game brings together several thousand players on servers in so -called “persistent” universes, because in perpetual evolution and accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Particularly popular, World of Warcraft is one of the most popular MMORPG. Released in France in February 2005, he was a quick success to claim up to 12 million subscribers around the world in 2010 before seeing its population gradually decrease.

According to the PEGI classification, World of Warcraft is aimed at players aged 12 and over, since it contains scenes of violence. Its extensions include dialogues that can strike the sensitivity of the youngest.

The game

Before diving into a fantastic medieval universe populated by elves, orcs, dwarfs and dragons, the player must begin – as in most MMORPG – by creating an “avatar” (character representing it in the virtual universe )). He can then make him evolve according to missions, clashes, explorations or meetings and follow his epic destiny.

As they evolve, this character gains new abilities, becoming in turn emeritus fighting (warrior, mage, thief, priest, druid …), legendary craftsman (engineer, blacksmith, herbalist) or recognized trader. It will interact with its environment (this is one of the main characteristics of MMORPG), create links with players, progress with or against them and have, in particular, the possibility of founding a guild (community gathered under the same standard )).

To know : The activity of World of Warcraft, as for the majority of current MMORPGs, is divided into two main categories: the PVE or Player versus Environment (the player plays against the environment, controlled by the artificial intelligence of the game) and the PVP or Player Versus Player (the player faces characters controlled by other players).

Management of playing time

Designed to encourage the player to always carry out several activities simultaneously, World of Warcraft is an almost endless game … since new missions are always offered before the end of the previous ones. To avoid devoting too much time to this hobby, the player must agree to interrupt his game at previously fixed times, even if he considers still having actions to perform.

The duration of a session is difficult to quantify and varies a lot in the case of PVE activities. It also depends on several factors: willing to obtain a high classification during PVP sessions, hierarchical constraints linked to the position of the player in his guild, without forgetting the attachment he may feel for the other members, called “Guildmates ».

We invite you to dialogue with your child to better know their activity in order to plan timetables and game sessions. You will prevent him from many frustrations ..

Also note that a parental control system is offered in World of Warcraft to help you define the playing schedules and the duration of each session as well as possible ..

Livre rules

Each player begins when he connects, to comply with a final user license contract (or Cluf). Certain practices are prohibited, such as the purchase or resale of virtual currency (gold coins), against money, very real it, through companies Gold Farming. This process consists in harvesting virtual currency in the game, either by eliminating monsters from the chain, or by creating and selling objects. The gold coins thus won are then exchanged, for finance, on certain websites.

The sale of game accounts, the call for services of “powerlevelling”(They allow a character to evolve up to his maximum level, in a minimum of time, and then resell it) are also prohibited. Failure to comply with these rules may lead the publisher of the game to be suspended temporarily or definitively access to the account.

The player is also asked to have a decent behavior within the game. Discuss with your child from his activity, share his experience … You will know better the players he meets during the different sessions. If you notice that some of them use vulgar language or have an attitude that can strike the sensitivity of a young audience, inform the “playmates” (or GM). These are the direct interlocutors of the players for any technical question or relating to behavior contrary to the good practice of the game. A request system is offered in the World of Warcraft interface for this purpose.

World of Warcraft cost

To be able to play World of Warcraft, you must subscribe to a paying (monthly) subscription or buy prepaid cards (they contain a code to enter the account of the player who gets playing time).
