Upcoming models / Jeep and Fiat: new SUVs on PSA base in 2022 and 2023

The FCA factory in Tychy in Poland will produce 3 new SUVs for Fiat, Jeep and another brand of the Stellantis group. Will it be Alfa Romeo ?

The Stellantis group has endorsed the launch of the production of 3 new small small format SUVs based on the CMP platform (ex-PSA) for Jeep, Fiat and a third brand which should be Alfa Romeo. These models will be produced in the Tychy Polish factory, currently in charge of the Fiat 500 and the Lancia Ypsilon. The Jeep model is scheduled for November 2022 and its Fiat counterpart for April 2023. Will the third thief be the Alfa Romeo Brennero or a first SUV Lancia ?

3 Small SUVs

The three models that will be produced in the former FCA will all use the CMP platform designed by PSA and will therefore become technical cousins ​​of DS3 Crossback, Peugeot 2008 and Opel Mokka, among others. For Jeep, it will be an addition to the current range, which will place a notch under the renegade, becoming the smallest model of the American range and, at first glance, the first to not offer all -wheel drive on At least one of its versions, but could benefit from a 100 % electric variant … Will Jeep sell his soul to the devil on the altar of profitability ? This new Jeep will come into production in November 2022.

For Fiat, this new little SUV-Crossover should strongly draw inspiration from the Fiat Centoventi concept, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. It should make the link between the current Fiat 500 x and the Fiat Panda Cross, here too without the possibility of all -wheel drive, but with the prospect of an electric version.

The third model should be stamped Alfa Romeo and it would then be Brennero, a model announced under the tonal. No confirmation has yet been provided in this regard by Stellantis. But it is the most plausible and likely track. 300.000 vehicles produced

The objective of the Tychy factory – which would benefit from an investment of more than € 200 million granted by the Polish government – will be to produce 300.000 vehicles per year, distributed at the rate of 130.000 Jeep, 110 Fiat and 60.000 Alfa Romeo (or Lancia, given the much “premium” volume). However, the site would have an extensible capacity to 400.000 annual units.

Petrol, hybrid or electric motors

In all likelihood, the small JEEP SUV would start its commercial career with a petrol engine at the end of 2022 before the arrival of a soft hybridization version in February 2023 and a 100 % electric engine in early 2024. A “reverse” programming of its Fiat counterpart, also launched in petrol thermal before seeing the electric version arrive in May 2023 while the mild hybrid would wait early 2024. As for the Alfa Romeo, his career would start in 100 % electric 2 -wheel drive before widening to a hybrid front traction model also in the first trimester 2024 and an iteration with all -wheel drive in the next quarter, equipped with an electric motor on each axle. A technical option which would constitute an exclusivity within the family of small SUVs “stellantis”, but which would be logically found on its cousin Jeep.
