To access your account, you must prove that you are indeed the person you claim to be. This can be done in 3 ways or with 3 factors:

Use two factory authentication

Authentication with two factors or “Two factor authentication” (2FA) is a simple solution to better protect your accounts. Thanks to two -factor authentication, you can prevent unwanted people from accessing your account, even if they know your password. Use two -factor authentication wherever you can. It’s simple and safe.

What is two factors ?

To access your account, you must prove that you are indeed the person you claim to be. This can be done in 3 ways or with 3 factors:

• With something you alone know (your password or your PIN code),
• with something you alone (your phone or token),
• with something you are (your fingerprint, your face, your iris. )).

Generally, you use one of these factors, often a password, to prove who you are, but it is better to use 2 or more factors: we then speak of authentication in two or more factors (2FA or MFA )). You can for example insert a password and send a code to your mobile phone, or use your fingerprint and an application to access your account.

Authentication with two factors is difficult ?

Identification with two factors for Apple identifier

The identification with two factors is designed to ensure that you are the only person to be able to access your account. Discover its operation and how to activate it.

The identification with two factors provides additional protection for your Apple identifier. It thus ensures that you are the only person who can access your account, even if someone else knows your password. When you connect for the first time with your Apple identifier on a new device or on the web, you must provide your password and the six -digit validation code which is automatically displayed on your trusted devices. Since your password is no longer enough to access your account, the identification with two factors considerably strengthens the security of your Apple identifier and the data that you store with Apple Apple. The identification with two factors is the default safety method for most Apple identifiers. Certain services and certain Apple features, such as Apple Pay and connect with Apple, require identification with two factors. We recommend that you use two factors identifying and protecting your device with an access code (or a connection password on Mac) and Face ID or Touch ID (if your device supports these features). Activation of two factors identification for your Apple identifier

• On your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch: Access Settings> [your name]> Password and security. Touch Activate two factors. Then touch continue and follow the instructions on the screen.
• On your Mac: Choose the Apple menu > System settings (or system preferences), then click on your name (or Apple identifier). Click on password and security. In view of the two factors identification option, click Activate, then follow the instructions on the screen.
• On the web: go to Appleid.Apple.com, then connect using your Apple identifier. Answer security issues, then touch continue. Touch continue when you are invited to upgrade account security. Then touch upgrade the security of the account and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you already use two factors identifying with your Apple identifier, you cannot deactivate it. If you have inadvertently activated it, you can deactivate it within two weeks of registration. In this case, your account is less secure and you cannot use features that require a higher level of security.

First connection with your Apple identifier on a new device

When you connect for the first time with the username and password associated with your Apple identifier on a new device or on the web, you will receive a notification on your trusted devices indicating that someone tries to Connect with your Apple identifier. The notification may include a card indicating the approximate location of the connection attempt. This is based on the IP address of the new device and can reflect the network to which it is connected, rather than the exact physical position. If you are the person who tries to connect, but you do not recognize the location, you can always press authorize and display the validation code. If not you, press not to allow to block the connection attempt.

When you enter the validation code on your new device or on the web, you confirm to trust the device on which you log. You may also be asked to enter the access code of one of your devices to access any encrypted content from end stored in iCloud.

The validation code is only required once for each new device, unless you disconnect entirely on it, erase your data or change your password for security reasons. When you connect to the web, you can choose your browser. The validation code will no longer be asked for this computer for 30 days.

If you don’t have a trusted device

If you try to connect and do not currently have a trust device that can display validation codes, you can touch “you have not received a code ? “On the connection screen and choose to send a code to one of your confidence phone numbers. This SMS may include an additional domain validation line which contains the symbol @, the name of the website and your code (for example, @icloud.com #123456 %Apple.com). You can also get this code via the settings menu of one of your trusted devices.

About phone numbers and trusted devices

With two factors, a trusted device or phone number helps you confirm your identity when you log into a new device or a new browser.

What is a trusted phone number ?

To use two factors identification, you must provide at least a confidence telephone number to receive validation codes. If you have a phone number that is not associated with your trusted device, we advise you to add it as an additional phone number. If your iPhone is your only trust device and it is lost or damaged, you will not be able to receive the validation code required to access your account.

To display, add or modify your confidence phone numbers:

• On your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch: Access Settings> [your name]> Password and security. In view of a trust number, touch modify.
• On your Mac: Choose the Apple menu > System settings (or system preferences), then click on your name (or Apple identifier). Click on password and security, then add or delete a confidence phone number.
• Access the Security section on Appleid.Apple.com.

What is a trust apparatus ?

A trust device is an iPhone, an iPad, an iPod Touch, an Apple Watch or a Mac on which you have already connected using two factors identification. It is a device identified as you belonging that allows you to receive a validation code to confirm your identity when you access your account via a new device or browser.
