If you want to control your Mac and your iPad with your keyboard, mouse or trackpad, while the iPad displays its own home screen and its own apps rather than the desk and apps of your Mac, prefer the control functionality universal.
Move a mac window on your iPad
Place your pointer on the full screen button from a Mac window, then choose the option to move this window to your iPad.
You can repeat this procedure for other Mac windows or simply drag them to and from your iPad. To replace a window on your Mac, you can also place the pointer on the full screen button, then choose to replace the window on the Mac.
If you want to copy your mac’s screen to your iPad rather than extend your office:
- Under macOS Monterey or subsequent version, choose a copy option from the copy menu on the screen of the menu bar 1 .
- Under MacOS Big Sur, choose a copy option from the monitor menu of the control center or in the menu bar.
- Under MacOS Catalina, choose a copy option from the Airplay menu ( Or ) of the menu bar 2 .

If you want your keyboard, mouse or touchpad to control your mac and iPad, but the iPad displays its own home screen and its own apps rather than the desk and apps of your Mac, use the universal control.
Move a mac window to your iPad
Move your pointer on the full screen button from a Mac window, then choose the option that allows you to display the window in question on your iPad.
You can repeat this step for other Mac windows or just slide other windows between your Mac and your iPad. To bring a window back to your Mac, you can also move your pointer on the full screen button and choose Return the window to the Mac.
