Frequent questions (FAQ)

How does an electric car work ?

Although resembling from the outside to any other vehicle, the electric car finds its singularity under its hood and its floor compared to a conventional car fueled by fuel. Indeed, the tank and exhaust systems, the heat engine, the clutch and the gearbox leave their place to one (or more !) Electric engine (s), a connection connection for recharging and a lithium-ion battery which is intended to continuously supply the vehicle. It will therefore start with the need to recharge the car by connecting it to a domestic socket, or a charging station. For our vehicles, the home installation of a Toyota wallbox to accelerate the load is recommended.

Once loaded, the electric motor can cause the wheels and, therefore, the propulsion of the vehicle. Unlike a diesel or petrol engine that needs the clutch to get there, it is enough to accelerate to move forward and let go of the pedal to decelerate. An on -board computer controls and manages the power necessary for the vehicle to circulate. Note that an electric car recharges itself during the deceleration or braking phases.

Why are electric cars clean vehicles ?

By definition, a vehicle is considered “clean” when its impact on the environment is low or zero. This category thus includes all cars operating with electrical energy, hybrid (rechargeable or not), hydrogen or LPG. If, in practice, no vehicle can be considered to be fully clean due to its manufacturing process until its destruction, which are phases where C02 emissions are issued, electric cars are still in this category of vehicles eco-friendly. Thanks to their integrated lithium battery, all vehicles in the electric range developed by Toyota do not issue any carbon dioxide emissions.

What aid for the purchase of an electric car ?

To acquire a “green” car and therefore a Toyota electric, the state offers several aids. The goal is to support the French to choose more environmentally friendly mobility by reducing their C02 emissions.

Among the premiums proposed, we can count on the “Conversion bonus”. It is a device built for replace its old vehicle with a new less polluting. The only condition is to send to Rebus its old car too polluting. Oscillating in 2021 from 1,100 to 5,000 euros depending on the type of vehicle purchased, it is granted up to a limit of 60,000 euros for the purchase price of the new car.

Another aid, to which the conversion bonus can be combined: the “ecological bonus”. Eligibility for this device concerns the purchase of an electric car, rechargeable or hydrogen hybrid emitting minus 0 grams of C02 per kilometer. This bonus can culminate Up to 7000 euros.

How to drive an electric vehicle ?

Offering great driving comfort because being silent and devoid of a gear lever, electric cars also have the advantage of a clearer acceleration at start -up only a car with a heat engine. As a result, to properly drive an electric car, it will be preferable to adopt an ecoconduite aimed at driving safely and extend the battery life.

Circulate with aModerate and progressive ccelerations will improve driving comfort in the short and medium term, but also The long -term battery life. Conversely, strong and repetitive accelerations will not help to extend the time to use an electric car and the longevity of its lithium battery.

Note that we can find a little battery life during the deceleration and braking phases. This is called “regenerative braking”.

How to choose an electric vehicle ?

In order to choose your electric automobile, several factors will be taken into account. The first of them is obviously the Budget allocated to purchase. Then comes the mode of use of the vehicle and, therefore, autonomy needs. Will the car be used for home-work trips only or medium-long journeys ? The question must be asked and is directly linked to the question of the recharge mode. In the case of short daily journeys, a home terminal will obviously be privileged. On the other hand, it will be necessary to organize to find public charging stations on longer journeys.

Finally, and it is a factor that we often forget, that of “Feeling”. We will obviously choose a model with a design and an interior that will stick more to our expectations to take pleasure in driving an electric car.

Main advantages of an experience

A 100% electric vehicle has the minimum maintenance because it contains much less components than a petrol car. For travel over a longer distance, it requires more management because it must be connected during this same route to continue rolling. You have to know the location of the quick charging stations and take the time it takes to load. Typically, it is 20 to 40 minutes on 400 volts charger depending on the energy to be put, the next step being the destination.

A branched bybride like the Volt, the Clarity, the BMW i3 Rex, contains more components than a petrol vehicle. They have double component. Even if the petrol portion is used less, it still requires an interview: oil change 1 time a year, burn the fuel a little so that it does not age, engine starting in winter to put it in temperature so that he is ready to work when his contribution is required. Despite the most numerous components, the owners of volts do not complain about high or unacceptable maintenance cost. The new Volt generation (2016-2018) offers greater autonomy by a larger battery but there are more small problems that appear than 2012-2015. There was a problem of cylinder head gasket in the first years but it is now resolved. According to your current routes, if you have only one car, a volt, Clarity (which has significantly the same autonomy and some prefer the Honda banner), would allow you to meet all your needs at a cost of use slightly higher than a 100 % electric but with less management. It is often a step that heads us towards a 100% electric.

Some complain that the volt has a charger of only 3 kW when they would like a 6 kW but most of the time the recharges are made on a 240 V terminal at home and the time to make the “full” is adequate even with a 3 kW. The vast majority of 100% electric now have a 6.6 kW charger, some even 7.2 kW (Chevrolet Bolt). Therefore the possibility of potential autonomy in an active day increases much faster in waiting times when connected.

You have to know your km needs well and know the alternatives available to the home to make an informed choice and as profitable as possible. It is possible at JN to rent a car for travel over the frequency depending on the frequency.

Advantages of rolling 100% electric
  • Zero CO2 emission, no required petrol.
  • Purchase of electricity produced locally, renewable and affordable.
  • About 10 times cheaper from km than gasoline. Cost 1.$ 80 of the 100 km in electricity (http: // lc.CX/MR8).
  • Minimal maintenance. Never oil change.
  • Much more efficient electric motor power. Its maximum strength is obtained practically instantaneous.
  • Very not very noisy engine and it does not slam in extreme cold.
  • From the house always full.
  • Growing popularity of Ves.
  • As safe to drive as a petrol thermal vehicle.
Advantages of riding with a branchable hybrid or with a vehicle with a “generator”
  • Same advantages than rolling 100% electric. But the advantage of surplus is autonomy, you can go where you want. The disadvantage is to pay gas when the battery life is exhausted.
  • Branchable hybrid vehicle or provided with a petrol energy extension available on the Quebec market; Ford Cmax Energi, Ford Fusion Energi, Chevrolet Volt, Toyota Prius, BMW i3, BMW i8, Cadillac Elr, etc.
Disadvantages of rolling 100% electric
  • Limited to the battery life of the vehicle
  • Numbers of fast terminals available at the moment (http: // www.plugshare.com)
  • Cost of the higher vehicle although the difference over time decreases and will continue to decrease with the volume of sales like any new technology that enters the market.
