A hybrid vehicle combines a thermal motor, petrol or diesel, one or more electric blocks, Located on the front train and/or on the rear axle. It can be rechargeable or non-reloadable, the two categories differentiating themselves on many points (technology, price, use, sales volume).
The electrical autonomy of a Non-reloadable hybrid car is limited to a few kilometers of city driving. With a low capacity, around 1 kWh, its battery is generally recharged thanks to the heat engine and a kinetic energy recovery device on braking.
Conversely, the largest battery capacity of a Rechargeable hybrid car, Around 10 kWh, it gives it an autonomy often between 20 and 60 km and a top speed of around 120 km/h. It is only in case of exceeding these values that the thermal engine takes over, knowing that recharging is similar to that of an electric car, through a domestic socket or a charging station.

Hybrid vehicles 2021: what bonus, how it works ?

Before the entry into force of the government bonus of 2000 euros, In early June 2020 and Until the end of June 2021, for the eligible rechargeable hybrids (up to 50,000 euros, more than 50 km of autonomy), no bonus was devoted to hybrid and hybrid rechargeable vehicles in France, on January 1, 2020. Aids were reserved for 100% electric cars of less than 60,000 euros. Since July 1, 2021, The bonus of 2000 euros was half reduced, switching to 1000 euros.
As a reminder, on January 1, 2017, the field of action of the bonus on hybridization was clearly reduced. The financial boost of 750 euros awarded so far to hybrids rejecting 61 to 110 g/km of CO2, and whose electric motor has a power over 30 minutes greater than or equal to 10 kW, had been simply removed. A year later, it was the bonus of 1,000 euros devolved to rechargeable hybrids (21 to 60 g/km) outside diesel that had been abandoned.
On the other hand, a bonus arising from the conversion bonus is granted for the acquisition of a Rechargeable hybrid vehicle. Its amount can reach up to 80 % of the acquisition price in the limit of 5,000 euros for a non -taxable household and up to a limit of 2,500 euros for a taxable household.

Note: for the time being, consumption and CO2 emissions indicated for hybrid vehicles are part of the NEDC approval standard (New European Driving Cycle), which ended on September 1, 2018. He is replaced by a (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure), closer to real values. Hybrid vehicles, especially rechargeable, could be particularly penalized. The tests hitherto practiced allowed the vehicle to move for a long time in 100 % electric mode, considerably lowering the figures compared to road use.

Guide 2023 – All rechargeable hybrids and hybrids on the market, which ?

While electric cars continue to gain importance, hybrid vehicles represent a significant share of the current automotive market. Whether you are looking for a simple hybrid model or that you are part of the followers of the rechargeable hybrid, Caradisiac draws up the list of all cars on the current market. But beware, prices have been well assembled since last year.

Two hybrid models, a Renault Austral and a Hyundai Tucson

In 2022, hybrid cars covered no less than 30% of the total new cars sold in France, an increase of 4% compared to 2021. But depending on hybridization technology, these sales evolve in a very different way: while those of simple hybrids increased significantly (12.4% of the total in 2022 against 8.5% in 2021), those of rechargeable hybrids retreat ( 8.3% of the total in 2022 against 8.4% in 2021). The fault at the total end of the aid for the purchase of new rechargeable hybrid cars and the arrival of new simple hybrid models both reasonably efficient and cheaper.

Formerly kept from Toyota, the category of non-rechargeable hybrids was dominated in 2022 by Renault which positions two of its models at the top of the podium: the Arkana e-tech sold 3,636 copies (or 10% of sales total hybrid total !), in front of Captur E-Tech and its 29,921 copies (9% of the total). Queen of hybrid city citys, the Toyota Yaris finishes only third (28,074 units) in front of the small SUV Yaris Cross (23,576 copies) and the Renault Clio E-Tech which closes the top 5. In total, it sold 332,689 non -rechargeable hybrid vehicles in France in 2022.

On the side of rechargeable hybrids, it was the Peugeot 3008 that came first last year with 10,729 copies sold (or 8.9% of the total rechargeable hybrid vehicles sold in France in 2022). Stellantis dominates this classification since the 308 arrives second (6,655 copies or 5.5% of the total) ahead of the Citroën C5 Aircross and its 6,636 copies (5.5% of the total). He is ahead of the Hyundai Tucson and its 4,775 copies as well as the DS 7 Crossback sold for 4,365 copies. In total, it sold 126,551 copies of rechargeable hybrid vehicles in 2022 in France. Significantly less than simple hybrid models, again ..

Increasingly criticized, rechargeable hybrid vehicles naturally require being recharged as often as possible to drive as much as possible in 100% electric mode and thus justify the presence of their heavy batteries (which affect efficiency once empty). With full batteries, they can generally travel around fifty kilometers in 100% electric mode (or much more on the most luxurious models equipped with larger batteries), which makes it possible to reduce the fuel bill to zero during travel daily. Unlike 100% electric vehicles, they also make it possible to go on long trips without having to plan the journey to recharge the batteries, even if the fuel consumption will then be at a level at least similar to that of a conventional thermal model. Compared to a simple hybrid, the additional cost for purchase is generally around € 7,000 for a rechargeable hybrid. The rechargeable hybrid kia niro, for example, is negotiated at € 39,140 against € 31,940 for the simple simple hybrid niro. The Renault Captur Plug-in, which has just left the Renault catalog, cost € 6,950 more than the Captur e-tech hybrid.

Rechargeable hybrid vehicles also retain a tax advantage for companies: provided they stay under 60 g/km of CO2, they still escape the annual tax on company vehicles.

We have brought together in this file the more than 200 hybrids and rechargeable hybrids available today on the French market by dividing them by category and specified for each of them the most interesting models. Compared to the same ranking last year, prices increased a lot: between 1,000 and sometimes more than € 10,000 depending on the model !

Bonus to purchase and conversion bonus

There is no longer any ecological bonus for purchase for rechargeable hybrid vehicles (now limited to 100% electric vehicles). Whether simple or rechargeable, hybrid vehicles are still entitled to an interesting conversion bonus.

The law provides for a conversion bonus of € 4,000 provided that you send a petrol vehicle before 2006 or a diesel vehicle before 2011. And if your reference tax income per share is less than € 6,359 (or you travel more than 30 kilometers per day in your home-work trips or even more than 12,000 kilometers per year to go to work). If at least one of these conditions is not met, the conversion premium is only € 1,500 (or even 0 € if your reference tax income per share is more than 14,090).
