At the beginning of 2023, return to the ranking of new new sold vehicles in 2022 on the French market. If the Peugeot 208 (2nd generation) is still at the top of the ranking, there is above all a top 10 composed of 100 % French cars.
The best -selling cars in 2022
The Peugeot brand supports its domination on the French market by managing to place four of these models in the top 10 new cars most registered in 2022. The surprise of this ranking, we owe it to the Dacia Sandero III. The city car jumps into the podium from 4th to 2nd. It flies the show at the Clio V which occupied this place in the previous two years.
Interestingly, the French like to buy French brands since the 1st foreign car is at the gates of the top 10, in 11th position. This is the Toyota Yaris which can at least boast of being in front of the eternal Fiat 500.

Top 100 best -selling cars in France in 2022
The French automotive market remained disappointing during the year 2022 with a drop in light vehicle registrations (Pins and light utilities) of 10.3% (for a total of 1,877,107 registrations). For the Particular Cars Only the drop is 7.8% (for a total of 1,529,035 registrations). The end-of-year figures, slightly better, still remain negative (-0.1% of private car registrations in December).
Obviously, the energy crisis, to which an economic crisis was added, is strongly responsible for this situation. And the boom in electricity, if it is real, remains confined to a limited part of the population, rather urban and easy.
On the energy side precisely, vehicle registration essence (-15% for 568,880 units) and above all diesel (-31.5% for 239,111 units) continued its drop, while vehicles hybrid (+6.5% for 459,212 units) and electric (+25.2% for 203,121 units) see their workforce increase.
In the Top of the best -selling cars in 2022, The French still buy mainly economical range cars (56%of registrations), ahead of medium (25%), higher (13%) and luxury (7%). As in 2021, the Peugeot 208 II is at the top of the best -selling models, in front of the essential Dacia Sandero III, Renault Clio V and Citroën C3 III. Note the breakthrough of the Renault Arkana (10th position) and the Peugeot 308 III (7th position), while the Renault Twingo III and Megane IV, as well as the Tesla Model 3 have a severe decrease in registrations.
