Iridium EV: the first 100% electric motorhome sold this summer

In the middle of a boom, the motorhome sector, however, suffers from a polluting vehicle image, more really in the air. Inevitably, the electrification of the motorhome becomes a necessity. The first to benefit from it will be the Iridium EV model.

This ultra-powerful mini electric motorhome has no limits (or almost)

The first images of the adventure 1 of the Canadian brand Potential Motors promise us a small vehicle adorned for travel and adventure as close as possible to nature. The perfect companion of a real motorhome !

Besides “normal” electric cars, we can also see the development of zero -emission leisure vehicles also. This goes through general manufacturers, like Opel and its Zafira e-Life or Volkswagen with the highly anticipated ID. Buzz which will also be entitled to its fitted version. And then there are much more specific vehicles that intend to take advantage of this forced switch to electric to reinvent the trip, like the CampWorks solar caravan.

The latest is called Adventure 1 and comes from Potential Motors, a Canadian firm based in Hanwell, New Brunswick. A compact vehicle, high on legs, optimized for all-terrain, and which, pending its production planned for 2024, is already available to order !

A look that hides large capacities

The cubic and picked up look of this Potential Adventure 1 seems straight inspired by the famous Japanese “Kei Car”, which must not exceed a specific displacement or a predefined congestion, so as not to engorge the traffic of the metropolitan areas of the country of the rising sun. Displaying only 1.62 meters wide, it would pass a Renault Zoé for a Hummer EV !

On the design side, not much to emphasize, it’s very cubic. We still immediately notice the large glass surface, which should especially appreciate from the inside to contemplate the landscapes. Other elements mark its purely all-terrain side, such as its large tires, its marked wheels, its tow hooks or the spare wheel on the rooftop. You will notice the relevant rear wheels that serve as a scale ! And all that is not superfluous when you know that it was designed to venture away from the beaten track.

It is especially inside that the magic of this adventure 1 operates. And there, do not trust his mini-man-garde, it is a real motorhome ! If he can accommodate up to four passengers, two people can sleep there. Double bed, kitchenette with two gas, sink and fridge lights … In addition, a reserve of 40 liters of water and 2,500 liters of storage space are also provided.

160 km of autonomy in all terrain

If Adventure 1 wants to get away from the roads as much, it is that it simply cannot go on the road. At least not on all. Indeed, it is UTV approved, that is to say as a quad, and as an OHV, understand off Highway Vehicle, that is to say that it cannot venture on the highway. But anyway, his autonomy does not frankly allow him to travel far.

Indeed, Potential Motors announces 160 km maximum distance (in all-terrain) on a single load. On the motorization side, the total power of 612 horsepower (604 hp) is sent to two engines to be able to move in four -wheel drive. The couple, important to get out of delicate all-terrain situations, reached 1000 nm.

It was indeed designed with an angle of approach of 40 degrees, a leak angle of 45 ° and a ridge angle (under the vehicle) of 29 °. He spends almost everywhere or ! And obviously, he has all kinds of body protections so as not to risk leaving feathers during extreme outings.

Driving aids are added to be able to explore unknown land in peace, especially with a bone that detects the type of terrain and adjusts car settings as a function.

In very limited series

Even if for the moment Adventure 1 of Potential Motors is not ready, it is already available in pre-order. And it is not given: count 136,600 dollars excluding taxes (about the same price in euros at the current exchange rate) ! It is very expensive, especially for a vehicle which clearly comes in addition to a larger motorhome and which would allow you to escape where the road stops for one or two nights.

As for production, it is not planned before 2024 … for orders honored in 2025. Patience ! But if you are interested, know that there will probably not be for everyone, Potential Motors announcing a very limited number of copies.

Not really sexy, the Iridium EV 7 meters long, 2.3 meters wide and 3 meters high, is however a small revolution in itself. The 100% electric German motorhome is indeed a first of its kind on this type of size. A model that should be delivered to the first customers from next summer or fall, after being presented last January at the Tourism and Camst CMT Salon in Stuttgart.
