These 2022 – Samsung Neo Qled televisions adopt the Dolby Atmos and a 4K 144 Hz mode
Samsung has unveiled part of the technologies integrated into its Neo Qled televisions for 2022. On the menu: compatibility with Dolby Atmos, support for 4K 144 Hz signals for PCs, or image calibration using a smartphone.

For 2022, Samsung has decided to develop its range of Neo Qled TVs very gently. Recall that these devices have an LCD slab will equip a quantum box filter and a mini-LED backlight system counting between several hundred zones to more than 1,000 areas for high-end models, by example. First novelty which will probably be difficult to appreciate, even to measure: the improvement of the precision of the mini-LED backlight system, which is now managed on 14 bits (16,384 levels) against 12 bits before. To this is added a Light adaptive shape process authorizing the finer control of the shape of the light beam sent to the LCD slab using a complex algorithm. Concretely, this should help to further refine the backlight and further avoid the Blooming phenomenon, already very limited on the models of last year.
Dolby Atmos compatibility
If, for several years, the Samsung televisions (Samsung 950TS and Samsung Qn95a) have embarked upwards oriented upwards to promote spatialization of sound, they were not compatible with Dolby Atmos, the most widespread spatialized audio format on the market. We had to be satisfied with the OTS+ house system (Object Tracking Sound+), not very efficient. With the Samsung Qn900b and its system 6.2.4 of 90 W is now ancient history. It will therefore finally be possible to take advantage of the Dolby Atmos sound offered by the different streaming platforms (Netflix, Disney+, etc.), as well as on ultra HD blu-ray.
An ultra HD 144 Hz mode for PCs
Samsung also takes the opportunity to introduce ultra HD 144 Hz compatibility dedicated to PCs. The graphics cards – even high -end – already having trouble with the 4K 120 Hz, this contribution of the 4K 144 Hz remains negligible for the moment. For consoles, Samsung televisions keep HDMI 2.1 4K/120 Hz, VRR and Allm. Support for premium pro freesync is still topical and HDR10+ gaming appears. It remains to be seen whether this format will be used.

Image calibration from a Samsung or Apple smartphone
Very interesting functionality for moviegoers, among others, the smart calibration proposes to perfectly calibrate the image of NEO QLED TVs using a Samsung or Apple smartphone. Basic calibration only requires 30 s with already very interesting results. It is however possible to perform a further calibration – count about 10 min – with, at the end, a result close to that obtained by a professional.
Many little more
This 2022 cuvée takes on a new video processor and its share of new treatment as every year. The multi-intelligent Picture Technology analyzes the image to strengthen the contrast of objects in the foreground, and thus accentuate the depth effect. A brightness sensor is also part of the part in order to adjust the image according to the ambient light. On the sound side, Human Tracking Sound precisely places the sound of the voice at the place where the actor is on the screen. The Q-Symphony to associate the enclosures integrated into a Samsung sound bar is still relevant. Finally, the excellent Slim One Connect case – Preview on the Samsung Neo Qled Qe65qn95a – is reduced by 23 % with a thickness of only 33.2 mm.
The full range announced a little later
This is in broad outline the new features to expect from this new NEO QLED 2022 range. The complete series of televisions will be revealed a little later, for availability in the second quarter of 2022, or even at the end of the first quarter in the best of cases.
