The new Renault Scenic 2024 becomes a 100% electric SUV, edge of the Renault Scénic E-Tech Electric (2024): the minivan redefined
RENAULT SCénic e-Tech Electric (2024): The minivan redefined
In a compact template, we therefore have a nice feeling of space and we will just have to ensure that the front passengers come up a little sitting to be able to slide their feet below. The perfectly flat floor allows you to be comfortable at the central place. Here is the main difference with the other scenic and the world of minivan. It is indeed a bench and no longer three individual seats. However, if this prevents its full withdrawal from the car, it is nevertheless foldable in three parts (40/20/40) at the level of the file to load long objects while keeping as many seats as possible as possible. In exchange, the two side places are much more comfortable and here, they benefit from more pronounced side maintenance.
The Renault Scénic makes its electric revolution (2024)
Announced for many weeks, the replacement for the 100% electric scenic was officially presented this morning during the Munich Munich show in Germany which has just opened its doors.

Already seen in the guise of the concept scenic vision concept unveiled in 2022 at the ChangeNow summit and to a certain extent by the H1ST Vision concept a few months ago, the future scenic was officially presented this morning to the whole world. A new scenic very different from what we have known and which really draws a line on the past, while trying to keep a certain heritage. It will be the rival of the Peugeot E-3008.
The scenic goes to the SUV
When we think scenic, we all have in mind the format of the minivan but also the fourth generation that did not work. Logical since since the late 90s, the scenic was a minivan, a very popular format at the time. But in 20 years, consumption methods have transformed.
While the scenic has sold more than 5.3 million units since the 90s, in 2023, only 2,821 units of the famous minivan were registered in France. A very low figure, which represents only 0.2% of the French automotive market, clearly increasing in August elsewhere. It is also true that the scenic range has been reduced to sorrow, and that the model is rarely present in concessions, which does not help sell it. But one thing is sure, the minivan is no longer recipe. Renault has already stopped the production of the short version, to offer only the long version, the time to market the new space and its 7 places.
But although the sales of the scenic, and those of the minivan segment have become almost anecdotal, Renault decided in a way to renew the experience, not without a radical change. Because of scenic, this new version is actually only the name.
This new scenic 2024 therefore completely abandons the MEPO spirit in favor of the SUV spirit so in fashion currently and thus takes up all the codes: high on legs, imposing vertical grille, long horizontal hood, wheels of a generous size ( 19 and 20 ”), curved shoulders.
Without real surprise, he also takes up the design codes inaugurated by the new Clio 5, as well as by the Rafale, another SUV presented recently. We thus find in particular the daytime fires in the shape of half a diamond which come to accommodate on both sides of the shield, a vertical grille which reveals a set of patterns made up of small diamonds, and of course, the new logo from the brand to the center of it.
Compared to the southern, this scenic plays much more the live edges card and a sharp line. The belt is extended to the custom level, a bit like on the captur to give it, despite its “mastoc” aspect a certain dynamism.
Externally, this scenic also innovates in terms of the design of the wheels with a fairly unprecedented, very conceptual and surprising drawing, but which optimizes air flows, just like the rush handles. On the other hand, on the Alpine spirit finish, these prove more classic with a design worthy of an alpine A110.
Only six body shades will be offered to its marketing: flame red, night blue, black star, brilliant shale gray or satin and pearly white.
A 100% electric minivan with reinforced autonomy
Based on the same platform as the megane e-tech, namely the CMF-EV, another notable change is of course its motorization which goes to all electric mode, as did the last megane. This new scenic also resumes its synchronous electric motorization with Rotor Bobiné from 220hp. (160 kW) and 300 Nm of couple that goes from rare lands and which is manufactured in France, in Cléon.
In addition to the 220 hp version, this engine is also offered in 170 hp. (125 kW) and 280 Nm of torque.
On the other hand, on the battery side, this scenic goes much further than the Megane, since it can accommodate an 87 kWh battery, authorizing it a theoretical autonomy of 620 km in WLTP cycle WLTP. Another smaller battery, 60 kWh, which offers a range of 420 km is also offered.
The 87 kWh version consists of 12 modules of 16 cells, each module that can be changed, allowing to reduce maintenance costs. Whatever the battery, it calls on a new chemistry, called NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt).
Four energy recovery modes are possible thanks to two pallets located at the steering wheel, allowing to do without the brake pedal. And to optimize the autonomy, the calories lost by the battery when it heats, are recovered to heat the cabin.
Note that it will not be possible to choose the battery and the engine independently. Only two combinations will be possible. The standard autonomy version will be equipped with the 125 kW block coupled with the 60 kWh battery, while the large autonomy version equipped with the 87 kWh battery will only be available with the 160 kW engine (220 hp.)). The latter will also have a 150 kW DC charger against 130 kW for the less powerful version.
Despite a significant weight of 1,840 kg, the fault of its 87 kWh of its battery, the 160 kW version (large autonomy) realizes 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds against 9.3 seconds for the version of 125 kW.
Inside, space despite its reduced size
This new scenic takes up the dashboard of the megane e-tech and the southern, with the two digital slabs, placed in the shape of the L, which integrate well on Google Automotive whose qualities are no longer to be boiled.
Unlike the Megane, this scenic can be equipped with a solar Bay panoramic glass roof, developed by Saint-Gobain. Equipped with amplisky technology, glass can darken on demand thanks to dispersed polymer crystals. A system that is found in particular in certain planes and which clearly comes to bring great brightness to this interior.
4.47 meters long, this new scenic earns just over 6 cm from the current scenic, in its short version. But by pushing the wheels to the 4 corners of the vehicle, and by offering a wheelbase of 2.78 meters or 10 cm more than on the megane, Renault was able to maximize the space on board by offering 278mm of space at the knee level rear passengers and a roof guard of 884 mm.
Of course, we are no longer in a real minivan. The interior cannot be arranged according to the desire. No more individual seats, the scenic now uses a classic rear seat. However, it has an ingenious central armrest with two removable arms in order to be able to install a phone or tablet on both sides. Note that for those who want to enjoy a beautiful modularity, Renault will present the new 7 -seater Kangoo available tomorrow in thermal and electric which will have 5 independent seats in terms of ranks 2 and 3.
On the chest side, the volume is 545 liters and 1,670 liters with the folded bench.
A price announced by 2024
With its new scenic, Renault adds one more SUV to its catalog. The manufacturer thus completes its offer on the electric C segment which was so far composed only of the megane. An offer that can also appeal to professionals given the advantages granted to them for the purchase of an electric car (TVS, VAT. )).Just presented this morning, Renault has of course not yet communicated on the prices of its new SCENIC SUV. The diamond brand will fold there when its marketing, scheduled for 2024, will be near. But one thing is certain, this scenic will be entitled to the maximum ecological bonus, then that it will be produced in France in Douai.

Aboard the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric (2024): the minivan is redefined
It is perhaps only a story of forms that now brings him closer to the essential universe of SUVs but the most famous compact minivan seems to not forget the essential for his fifth generation. The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric changes energy like the megane before it and offers a much less soft profile than its predecessor but advances a sense of welcome which could hit the bull’s eye.
Zapping Autoesews Green Hyundai Kona Hybrid (2023): the second generation of the compact SUV in video
The minivan is dead, long live the minivan ! Well almost. He had launched fashion in 1996 in the compact cars segment and all families had already thought about it at least once for his principle of devoting most of the volume offered by his body to the interior interior. A monovolume shape where the engine had to hold in the least possible space under a short hood and in which the interior was to free from the margin to the head, to the trunk and for the modularity. The Renault Scenic has been able to get essential until the MONOSPACE look is overwhelmed by that of SUVs, deemed more rewarding and dynamic. All the manufacturers who put themselves in the minivan gradually abandoned it. They are today almost nonexistent but Renault still caused its own to 2022, by means of four generations whose last presented itself with 20 inch rims in order to evoke the SUV without converting to it.
The Renault Scenic 5, known as “E-Tech Electric”, arrives despite everything to take over and although the brand has difficulty talking about a SUV concerning it, preferring to evoke an “intermediary” proposal or compare itself to Competitors that she describes as “conventional SUVs”, it must be admitted that the new scenic clearly displays two volumes between the hood and the cabin as well as very clear -sided lines at the front, drawn by the same designer Gilles Vidal, who has passed since the diamond. Is it just a little lower with a sedan ground clearance. In short, we place him in the box that we want while he adapts to the style of his time but it is whatever it is expected at the turn of his interior performances.

Before settling on board, an outside lap of the vehicle highlights a character close to that of the scenic vision concept which announced it, a style that will be noticed in the street. In particular by its 20 -inch rims in forged aluminum whose black branches of mud -shaped shapes are dressed in gray aerodynamic inserts playing reflections for a very conceptual aspect. Depending on the finish, they can be more compact (at least 19 inch) or more airy like on the “Alpine spirit” version. The day in reverse half-losantic lights recall the recent restyled Clio and the grille is not satisfied with a smooth appearance like the 100 % electric passage of this scenic could have allowed it. A black banner as well as a sequence of rolled diamonds inside and below it, more or less contrasting on their contours, form a honeycomb grid which can almost make a thermal model think.
Inevitably, with a more marked hood than before, this new generation measures 4.47 m long, it is about six centimeters more than the scenic 4, a reasonable increase. With 1.86 m wide, it is maintained at an equivalent value but it is lower with 1.57 m under the height against 1.65 m. This is relatively low and it is added to a visually shorter in proportion interior. So how do he come out … inside ?

If the dashboard is not surprised at the Megane E-Tech Electric and the seats are barely raised by a thicker battery under the floor, the Scénic E-Tech Electric apparently has not forgotten the fundamentals of its lineage. Admittedly, the hood is longer but all the mechanics and the air conditioning system with heat pump was postponed to the maximum forward while the wheels were placed in the four corners of the body, for a space between the front wheels and rear of 2.79 m, directly profitable for habitability.
By comparison, it is 10 cm more than the wheelbase of the Megane measuring 4.20 m outside. But also almost 12 cm more than that of the SUV Compact Renault Austral, however, 4 cm (4.51 m) and almost 5 cm more than that of the last space of 4.72 m in length. And it is by going up in the back that we realize the whole point of this conception. We get more room than in the mega, for the knees but also for the shoulders and the head, especially with the large fixed glass panoramic roof with variable opacity, of constant light but allowing not to be dazzled thanks to the technology of polymer liquid crystals, for the first time spread over several segments in order to opacify only the front or back of the roof at our convenience.
A refocused modularity on comfort
The occupant of the environment is based on a soft and flat seat in order to optimize its decent width. The backrest is not too firm and incorporates its headrest, non-reliable but forming a single block to fall back and create a longer central armrest, incorporating storage, two USB-C ports and two swivel cup holders with Support slits, modular in position, to receive phones and entertainment tablets. Ergonomic and well thought out, these rear seats have nothing to envy to the reception of the previous scenic, they are even more pleasant and better in comfort as in installation.
This could be done at the expense of the trunk but this is not the case. With 545 liters of volume, it increases 39 liters. It is also 45 liters more than the Austral with seats remote to the maximum and only 30 liters less than this one when it advances them. By folding down the files of the Scenic E-Tech Electric bench, we obtain 1,670 liters, as well as on the previous minivan.

For the rest, the presentation follows the recent trend of the Renault with a good quality of assembly and presentation. Although many hard plastics are numerous, they are properly integrated into the whole and have the merit of using a large share of bio-soupped or recycled and mainly recyclable materials, fabric upholstery (up to 100 % from From recycled bottles for the “Alpine Spirit” finish, 79 % on the light colors) in the roof sky via the steering wheel, the dashboard or the floor mats. In all, 24 % of the elements of the scenic are recycled and 26 % concerning the interior.
The 12 -inch vertical tactile tablet associated with the digital instrumentation of 12.3 inch horizontal always uses the highly efficient Android Automotive system from Google, granting the scenic a fluid interface, intuitive and worthy of a high -end smartphone, to the best current market level.
The French manufacturer promises us a road behavior similar to that of the Mégane and for the first time really dynamic for a scenic, which would be oriented towards the pleasure of driving without omitting comfort. Great promises to put a maximum of chance on its side at a time when electric could be a difficult step to take for many potential buyers.
Two batteries and a neat electric ecosystem
On this aspect, the new E-Tech Electric scenic offers two batteries, whose energy density compared to the megane has been improved for gains of weight and autonomy at equal capacity. In any case, there is a useful 60 kWh version, announcing 420 km of autonomy in WLTP cycle, associated with a 170 horsepower engine and 280 Nm of torque for a top speed limited to 150 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h performed in 9.3 sec.
Another more enduring alternative appears to cover wider needs and meet the needs of vacation departures for example. An 87 kWh battery that could cover 620 km. Renault specifies that 370 km on the highway would be achievable in one go to this version. The associated engine develops 220 horsepower and 300 Nm for a speed braded at 170 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 sec.
On the recharges, the smallest battery accepts a continuous power of 130 kW maximum against 150 kW for the largest. By alternating, a 22 kW charger can equip the scenic, in series or not depending on the market, without more detail for the moment.
In parallel, the on-board planner improves its performance taking into account the pre-advertising of the battery and the weather which can influence the autonomy, recalculates a recharge plan on the route faster and can consider the point of arrival at his home or workplace as a recharge point and thus limit stops on the course.
Customers who wish can opt for the “Mobilize Pass” charging card and its network including 500,000 recharge points in Europe, including Ionity stations with the possibility of benefiting from specific subscriptions in order to obtain preferential prices. What also access 200 Renault dealerships equipped with Mobilize fast load terminals (up to 320 kW) located at a maximum of 5 minutes from the highway with dedicated waiting room.
The new scenic has not therefore lost everything from its MONOSPACE principle but still requires some changes in habits. It remains to know its prices before its commercial launch in early 2024, which could place it among the electrical references for the middle families, depending on its degree of competitiveness which will result from it.
