The electric car at 100 euros per month is for very soon, electric car at 100 euros per month: what is the best offer? Which model to choose?
Electric car at 100 euros per month: what is the best offer ? Which model to choose
For manufacturers as well as for the State, at the end of the leasing contract, it should not be a question of being able to buy the car. To lower the rental at less than 100 euros, the manufacturers opt for long -term rental (LLD) and not rental with purchase option (LOA) which costs more. It will remain, that said, how many months the State wants to offer its contract. In the comparison of the best offers of electric cars at less than 100 euros per month that we offer below, you will be able to see that the durations may vary from single to double depending on the manufacturer.
The electric car at 100 euros per month, it is very soon
Promise of President Emmanuel Macron, the electric car at 100 euros per month could become a reality by the end of the year.
If for the moment all the details are not yet known, Clément Beaune, the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, recently said in late July on France Inter that the measure to set up a social leasing ” will be ready in the fall “, While adding that” This is a major measure, no European country has set this »».
Reserved ” to half of French households », Also according to Clément Beaune, this offer at 100 euros per month will only include the rental of the vehicle. To this, it will of course be necessary to add insurance, maintenance or recharging costs.
Ride in Twingo or C3
But then what are the eligible cars ? Once again, nothing is certain yet, but according to our colleagues in capital, two models assembled in Europe would have already been chosen: the Renault Twingo e-tech (and not the Future Renault 5 Electric) and the future Citroën Ë-C3. The first is also currently offered by the French manufacturer at 100 euros per month, but under certain conditions (long -term rental of 37 months, 1st rent of 1.500 euros and after deduction of the ecological bonus of 5000 euros and the conversion bonus of 1.500 euros).
If the Renault Twingo E-Tech lives its last hours (end of production scheduled for summer 2024), the second will only be unveiled until next October. Almost visually identical to the Indian version of the Citroën Ë-C3, this European version of the 100 % electric city car will be entitled to a new platform. Scheduled for 2024, it should be available at entry -level from 25.000 euros, excluding ecological bonus.
The government therefore continues to work on the subject, especially since the first deliveries of these electric cars at 100 euros per month should intervene at the beginning of next year as Clement Beaune said: ” There will be reservable cars from this fall, for deliveries that will start in early 2024 »».
Electric car at 100 euros per month: what is the best offer ? Which model to choose ?
Often mentioned, never presented, the plan promised by the government for an electric car rental offer at 100 euros per month is late. In the meantime, some manufacturers have already released their offer. Our comparison of each, with their total cost, their advantages and disadvantages.
The electric car is expensive. It is only to compare the pricing grid of a thermal 208 with that of its electric cousin. The first starts at 19,200 euros when the second is not less than 34,800 euros. Yes, more than 15,000 euros separate the 208 from the E208 !
If the purchase of an electric car is not within your reach, the solution may be on the side of the rental. Indeed, for six months, the government has been changing an LLD offer at 100 euros per month. Mentioned in March 2022, the project was late and we still have no clear information on the arrival of an offer with a specific model for this second half 2023. Indeed, the state would have all the sorrows to concoct A plan to finance an electric car at only 100 euros per month.
For their part, car manufacturers did not hang out to seize this opportunity. By playing with a long -lasting rental, as well as a supplies with the ecological bonus and the various aids of the State, some have succeeded in ahead of the government. The car at 100 euros per month that they promise to appear large on advertising panels, even if you look more closely at the offer is far from being identical to what President Emmanuel Macron would like to offer.
MG to be boasted in a campaign for his MG4: “Mr. President, we hold your promises »», Behind these jokes, the offers proposed are not as attractive as that imagined by the government and even conceal some traps that it is better to know how to identify. However, it is really possible to subscribe to an LLD of 100 euros/month for an electric car.
If several offers exist, not all of them are. Duration of engagement, mileage, more or less important contribution … The contours can significantly change and vary the quality/price ratio. Hence the importance of looking into each of these electric car offers at 100 euros per month available in September 2023.
Because at present, there is no better. And according to your income and if you have an old thermal vehicle, it is indeed possible to equip yourself with an electric car for monthly payments of 100 euros. This is why we looked at all the offers of the moment in order to make a list. The goal above all: to identify the true from the false behind these prices, and to guide you on the conditions. In the running at the moment for an electric car at 100 euros per month: Renault, Citroën, MG Motor, Fiat and Dacia.
Differences between the manufacturers’ offer and that (likely) of the State
Before looking into each of the offers, let’s talk about the big differences between what the manufacturers offer and what the State would like to offer. Because if nothing is yet available on the government side and the manufacturers already display offers at 100 euros, it is for a clear reason: the offers of the manufacturers do not correspond exactly to the promise of the State in terms of ‘accessibility. Now let’s draw up the two standard portraits of offers and their calculation method to reach these famous 100 euros in monthly payment.
The offer of manufacturers. To lower the bill to only 100 euros per month, there are two conditions. The first is to agree to pay a first contribution, which strongly increases the note. Count between 7,500 and 9,000 euros at September 2023, corrected at 2500 or 4,000 euros taking into account the current ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. The second condition is to take advantage of the ecological super-bonus (5000 + 2000 euros) or the conversion bonus. It is then necessary to a reference tax income per share at less than 14,089 euros (for the super-bonus), or be the owner of a diesel vehicle before 2011 or a thermal before 2006 (for the premium to conversion).
On the side of the state offer, Everything is simpler at least as long as it is theoretical. There will not be a contribution. The first rent for long -term rental will be the same as the other rents: 100 euros. The government will take care of the difference, and will negotiate directly with the manufacturer. According to last year estimates, the system should cost 50 million euros per slice of 100,000 contracts the first year. By doing the calculation, this would come back at a cost of 500 euros per contract. How will the state finance the rest ? That, the Ministry of Finance is careful not to say it and that may be what explains the delay in ignition.
The conditions to know so as not to be fooled
Conditions govern long -term electric car rentals at 100 euros per month. Among them: limitation of mileage, rental time, obtaining the ecological bonus or the return of the vehicle in good condition.
Limited mileage: All leasing offers for less than 100 euros for an electric car have a mileage limit that can be low if you run regularly. Count 10,000 kilometers per year, or 830 kilometers per month. This is equivalent to 27 kilometers per day on average if you run every day. If we start from the principle that there are 226 days worked in the year (as in 2023, with 25 days of paid holidays, 9 holidays and 105 Saturdays and Sundays), the average is then 44 kilometers.
Contract duration: Manufacturers do not allow you to sign for monthly payments at 100 euros with the same duration of contract. Current offers extend from 2 to 4 years. This element must be taken into account as it is also a commitment. Short offers also arrive with their share of drawbacks, such as the fact that the ecological bonus is only available once every three years.
Vehicle return: Aside from wear parts, brands that offer an electric car at 100 euros per month require the vehicle in good condition. As with conventional LLD or LOA offers, penalties can be added in the event of the need for intervention on the vehicle at the end of the contract to restore it to documents that are not included in the parts of wear. For example, bodywork in the event of an incident, or the interior in the event of degradation.
Ecological bonus: Aid under condition threatened
Obtaining the ecological bonus is also one of the conditions to avoid having to pay a substantial contribution. But it is not available so simply, and it will evolve. Indeed, the State only delivers it once per three -year slice. If you have benefited from it for the purchase of an electric car or for another long -term rental, of two years for example, then you will have to pay fully the contribution during the first rent.
As of January 1, 2024, some models will no longer be affected either, because state aid will be conditioned on environmental criteria, such as the carbon impact of their delivery. For models made on another continent, as in China, the sanction will be immediate. Dacia Spring and MG4 will no longer be able to benefit from the ecological bonus.
Offers at 100 euros per month for an electric car
The list below is up to date in September 2023. We will continue to update it over the months, also taking into account new models and those that stop their production. Some brands have also enhanced the price of their rental, this is the case of Peugeot which offers its Peugeot E-208 to 130 euros per minimum month, and which will remove the city car from its range next year.
List of electric cars at 100 euros per month (September 2023)
Are not included in the list:
- The Peugeot E-208: its best offer of the moment is 130 euros per month with only 500 kilometers not month
- The Citroën C3: it has an offer at 99 euros per month, but it is a thermal model
- Volkswagen ID.3: Its best offer is 279 euros per month with larger contributions too (4000 euros)
- Hyundai Kona Electric: now, it takes 199 euros per month with a first contribution of 5000 euros
Citroën Friend: an offer at 19.99 euros per month
- Price : 19.99 euros per month.
- Duration of commitment : 48 months.
- Mileage: 10,000 km/year or 40,000 km in total.
- Funding: Contribution of 8,652 euros reduced to 3,652 euros thanks to the bonus.
- Total cost (contribution + monthly payments): 4,612 euros after 4 years.
Let’s start our comparison with the cheapest of all electric cars offers at less than 100 euros: the Citroën Friend. Since its release in 2020, it is the new electric car without permit par excellence with an offer which has always remained below 20 euros per month. The ultra-compact is today available at 19.99 euros per month, with an intake of 8,652 euros reduced to 3,652 euros thanks to the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. The offer goes through a contract over four years, which is not nothing, to ultimately cost 4,455 euros of monthly payments taking into account the contribution.
At this price, this is the “friend friend” version, in other words the entry -level. The city car costs 7,990 euros at new price, and offers a range of 75 kilometers WLTP for a full 4 -hour recharge on domestic socket. The maximum speed is 45 km/h remember, when it is a car without a license. Two people can get on board. The storage space is also very reduced, so it will not be possible to transport large things.
- Advantage: its price, its size
- Disadvantage: it is a car without a license, limited in performance and quality.
Dacia Spring: an offer at 79 euros per month
- Price : 79 euros per month.
- Duration of commitment : 37 months.
- Mileage: 10,000 km/year, or 30,000 km in total.
- Funding: Contribution of 7,500 euros, reduced to 2,500 euros thanks to the bonus.
- Total cost (contribution + monthly payments): 5,344 euros after 3 years.
Throughout the duration of September, Dacia offers an offer at 79 euros per month on its Spring, the electric city car which has already passed in more than 17,000 copies in France over the first six months of the year. For its offer in leased, It is necessary to count on an contribution of 7,500 euros reduced to 2,500 euros with the ecological bonus. If you have a model eligible for conversion bonus of 2,500 euros, you will be able to reduce costs to simple monthly payments. If you are one of the tax households eligible for super bonus, then it will only cost you 500 euros in contribution for a Dacia Spring at 79 euros per month.
At this price, the first 100 % electric car from Dacia offers around 230 kilometers of autonomy, a measure that we had confirmed during our tests. The cheapest of electric cars on the market has a 44 -horsepower engine and a 27.4kWh battery. During our tests, we had been able to discover a slightly Spartan cabin, but with a view to its performance and its price, the offer was clearly attractive and the city car is one of the most attractive long -term rental at less than 100 euros per months while total monthly payments over 3 years will be 5,344 euros.
- Advantage: its price, its contribution
- Disadvantage: Spartan interior, less nice look than a Fiat 500
Warning on the end of the ecological bonus for the Dacia Spring : as of January 1, 2024 and the entry into force of the new ecological bonus policy, the Dacia electric city car will be put on the key. Indeed, being assembled in China, the carbon impact of its routes to Europe will no longer allow it to integrate the list of models that can benefit their customers from the ecological bonus. With the current leasing offer at 79 euros per month over 3 years, it will therefore be necessary to pay not 5,344 but 10,344 euros of monthly payments and contribution.
Fiat 500 electric: an offer at 99 euros per month
- Price : 99 euros per month.
- Duration of commitment: 37 months.
- Mileage: 10,000 km/year, or 30,000 km in total.
- Funding: Contribution of 7,500 euros reduced to 2,500 euros thanks to the bonus.
- Total cost (contribution + monthly payments) 6,132 euros after 3 years.
Let us continue the study with a city car who doubles the power of the Dacia Spring: the Fiat 500E. We then go from 44 to 95 horsepower with the Fiat electric car which offers a long -term rental contract at 99 euros per month, over 37 months, for a contribution identical to that of Dacia: 2,500 euros by deducting the ecological bonus. As the offer is also 3 years, its only distinction with the Dacia Spring is its higher monthly payment. In the end, it will cost 6,132 euros to take a Fiat 500E for a long -term rental, or 788 euros more than a Dacia Spring.
Classified fifth most sold electric model last year in France, the Fiat 500E seduces mainly with its aesthetics. For its leasing offer at less than 100 euros per month, it is necessary to count on the version with the small battery of 23.8 kWh, which offers a range of 190 kilometers (a 42 kWh version authorizes 320 kilometers). Before bonus, its price is 28,400 euros. In one year, Fiat has reduced the cost of its leasing offer, but it is obviously limited to the most basic version of the car. By adding a few options or by going to the version with the biggest battery, it will be necessary to count more than 200 euros per month immediately.
- Advantage: its look
- Disadvantage: its price, its autonomy
Renault Twingo E-Tech: an offer at 100 euros per month
- Price : 100 euros per month.
- Duration of commitment : 37 months.
- Mileage: 10,000 km/year, or 30,000 km in total.
- Funding: contribution of 9,000 euros reduced to 4,000 euros thanks to the bonus.
- Total cost (contribution + monthly payments) 7,600 euros after 3 years.
Above the Fiat 500E and the Dacia Spring, there is the Renault Twingo e-tech. Its leasing offer is currently at a price of 100 euros per month, for a first rent of 9,000 euros reduced to 4,000 euros with the ecological bonus. In the past, Renault offered this long -term rental offer at a lower price. Today, it remains much higher than that of Dacia or Fiat, at more than 7,600 euros in monthly payments in total over three years. Renault, on the other hand, makes it possible to add the interview, 24 -hour assistance and the warranty for the duration of the rental, for 1 euro more per month.
At this price, Renault provides the “Authentic” version of the car, which costs 20,250 euros with the ecological bonus deduced. The WLTP autonomy of the French city car is the same as that of the electric Fiat 500 in its small battery, namely 190 kilometers (which is realistic in summer, less in winter or the autonomy is rather tutorialing the 110 kilometers). The power of the engine is 81 horsepower. We still regret the weakness of the endowment, which does not include air conditioning for example. Even the Dacia Spring does better.
- Advantage: its maintenance at 1 euro/month
- Disadvantage: its autonomy, its contribution, its lack of air conditioning
MG4: an offer at 99.99 euros per month
- Price : 99.99 euros per month.
- Duration of commitment : 24 months.
- Mileage: 10,000 km/year, or 20,000 km in total.
- Funding: Contribution of 9,500 euros reduced to 4,500 euros thanks to the bonus.
- Total cost (contribution + monthly payments) 6,899 euros after 2 years.
At MG Motors, the offer of electric car at 100 euros per month of the government was a real inspiration. In order to take the lead on the State, the brand now belonging to the Chinese group Saic Motor launched an offer at 99 euros per month for an MG4. With an intake of 4,500 euros, which is quite substantial. The offer differs from others by spanning only two years. A problem while the state does not issue the ecological bonus to consumers only once every three years. This is the price to be paid to be able to equip yourself for monthly payments similar to small electric city cars such as the Dacia, Fiat and Renault with a better equipped car.
Because the MG4 does not run in the same category with a 350 -kilometer WLTP autonomy. For the leasing offer, we are entitled to the smallest battery of 51 kWh, but which still offers a much more important load. It is also possible to stop on the fast charging stations and reach 88 kW of power. The power of the engine is 170 hp. Add an endowment to this again, with an adaptive regulator or the automatic highlights.
- Advantage: its autonomy, its engine, its equipment
- Disadvantage: its contribution, its limited duration of contract
Warning on the end of the ecological bonus for the MG4 : as of January 1, 2024 and the entry into force of the new ecological bonus policy, the compact sedan of MG could be put on the key. Produced in China, the carbon impact of its routes to Europe would no longer allow it to integrate the list of models that can benefit their customers from the ecological bonus. With the current leasing offer at 99.99 euros per month over 2 years, it will therefore be necessary to pay 6,899 euros but 11,899 euros of monthly payments and contribution.
Verdict: What are the best offers ?
As you can see, currently in France, five models are available in leasing to monthly payments of 100 euros or less. Among them, the most classic offer requires a contribution of 2,500 euros to the first rent, after deduction of the ecological bonus. Generally, the contract lasts 3 years. But several models are different, like MG Motor which offers its MG4 with more strict conditions: a larger contribution and a shorter contract duration. For the Citroën Friend, the monthly payments are much lower, but the contribution is substantial and the model remains a car without a license limited to 45 km/h.
Best cheapest offer: If you rely at the total cost you will cost you one or the other of its long -term rental offers, the Citroën Ami is clearly the cheapest, at 4,612 euros over 4 years. Otherwise, you must choose the Dacia Spring, at 5,344 euros over three years, which is the cheapest of the cars available at less than 100 euros per month excluding car without a license.
Best offer in terms of contribution: The Dacia Spring and the Fiat 500 electric won the match. Both are available at 2,500 euros, the lowest contributions you can find on the market. They can be funded by an ecological super-bonus or by a conversion bonus. The advantage of the Dacia Spring, facing the Fiat 500, is its maintenance included for the duration of the contract. On the side of the Fiat we will prefer the power of its engine and its look.
Best offer according to the rental period: Citroën Ami is ahead of its competitors. She is the only one to offer 4 years of contract, or 48 months. All the others, except the MG4, are limited to 3 years. Recall that by offering only 24 months, the MG4 can put you in difficulty at the end of the contract because you should wait an additional year before you can again claim to buy or rent an electric car by benefiting from an ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. On condition, of course that the state’s boost is still in force at that time.
Best offer according to the model: Difficult to do other than advise the MG4. Of course, equipping itself with a compact sedan is not everyone’s wish and perhaps you are looking for only a city car for urban journeys, but MG’s Chinese offer is still well above in terms of equipment, autonomy, engine power and space on board. It is one of the best electric cars on the market. And with the upcoming disappearance of its ecological bonus, it will not be competitive for purchase for a very long time.
Electric car at 100 euros per month: here are the first two eligible vehicles
The government is struggling to find electric models for its famous social leasing at 100 euros per month. Citroën will come to its rescue with the new electric C3.
The electric car at 100 euros per month, it’s been a while since we’re talking about it, but obviously the measure is not easy to set up. Latest news, the system should be activated at the end of the year. As a reminder, only the most modest households will be able to benefit. The eligibility criteria were not communicated at this stage.
Finding the cars that will constitute the offer of this social leasing is a complex challenge for the government, engaged in long discussions with manufacturers and rental companies. A first selection was nevertheless arrested and, according to information collected by capital, the new electric Citroën C3 is one of them.
A Citroën Ë-C3 which checks all the boxes
The future electric C3 (or Ë-C3) will be inspired by the concept Oli. It should fully register in the new positioning of Citroën, halfway between general practitioner and low-cost. With a starting price below € 25,000 (at least that’s what’s expected), this electric city car has everything to please the government, which can only set up its social leasing with affordable models.
The Citroën Ë-C3 will be produced on the old continent, and more precisely in Slovakia. This point is essential because the executive does not want a vehicle made in China. It is for this reason that the Dacia Spring will not be able to integrate the device, unless Dacia relocates its production.
A Renault also retained, but not the one we expected
In addition to the electric C3, a second model would already be selected: the Renault Twingo e-tech. A somewhat surprising choice, since this vehicle produced in Slovenia will retire in the summer of 2024. The new electric Renault 5 would have been a more sustainable option over time. It is also possible that it appears one day or another on the list of eligible models.
The electric C3 and the Twingo e-tech would be the only two models retained in the current state of things. Like the R5, the Peugeot E-208 is also a plausible candidate, even if her higher price does not plead in his favor. In general, the choice is not huge: there are indeed not many electric cars that are really affordable and produced in Europe.
