CMP/E-CMP: the modular and efficient platform of the Peugeot 208
The new Peugeot 208 is built from the latest generation of PSA group platform: the CMP (Common Modular Platform)). Reserved for B and C segments, and shared with the DS 3 Crossback, or the future Peugeot 2008 II and Opel Corsa, this new base complements the offer of the EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform)).
As its name suggests, the CMP platform is modular in terms of dimensions and engines. Multi-energy, it allows the choice to its future customers of the type of traction: thermal (petrol/diesel) or electric.
Efficiency has been at the heart of concerns throughout its development. This new platform contributes to limiting CO2 emissions from the new Peugeot 208 thanks to:
- its reduction (30 kg vs the PF1 platform),
- Improving its aerodynamics (smoothing of the base and use of controlled air entries),
- The decrease in rolling resistance (class A tires and reduction of mechanical friction of trains),
- Optimization of traction channels (improvement in combustion yields, down-sizing, reduction of mechanical friction, elongation of transmissions and generalization of stop & start).
The CMP platform also makes it possible to offer an increased level of comfort and safety:
- Improved acoustic and thermal comfort on board, reduction of vibrations,
- Availability of driving aids worthy of the higher and unprecedented segments on the B segment.
