I have connected a 65qn85b neo qled tv with a q990b soundbar using the earc inputs/outputs on both the tv and the soundbar with a hdmi 2.1 cable. I have then activated the earc (auto) and the atmos (Blue Spot) in the tv sound expert parameter menu.

Now I Am Watching A Movie On Disney+ Using the Application in the TV. I can see the dolby atmos is available from the detail menu of the movie in the disney app.

When I press on the information Button of the Soundbar Remote Control, I can see the following message on the Small Screen of the Soundbar: “TV/Earc” then “Multi CH PCM”. Is this really the message I Should Expect ? I was rather expecting a message like “Dolby Atmos”.

The Samsung Support Told Me that it is normal but i not fully convinced with their ANSWER.

Thank you for your support.

FYI I exchanged with an advisor via the assistance cat who told me that I did not have Dolby Atmos on my TV, but rather Dolby Vision ..

That of disappointment on my part, maybe it is the same problem for you ?

The funniest in this story is that I have the “Dolby Atmos” activated in my expert settings.

Hello, one has an 8K TV 82Q800T model which is connected to a HW-Q990B soundbar. When I watch program in Dolby Atmos (Disney +, Amazon Prime) The bar informs me to be in multichannel PCM. On the other hand, I also have an Xbox Series X console connected to HDMI directly on TV and there, the sound is well indicated in Dolby Atmos on the sound bar. I use the e-arc function. Why with the applications installed in the TV directly the Dolby Atmos sound is not recognized while with a plug -in device in HDMI çà works ? Thank you for your help.

Hello, I have exactly the same concern, well almost.

I have a QE65Q95T TV of 2020, with a HW-Q990B soundbar in HDMI EARC. No worries to decode the Dolby Atmos from Disney+ for example, Dolby Atmos is well displayed on the small screen of the sound bar.

On the other hand, some audio tracks called “Dolby Atmos” are not read, television shows me that the audio format is not supported, however, it is Dolby TrueHD 7.1,48000hz atmos, and I don’t understand.

Ditto with so -called “Atmos” tracks on downloaded MKVs, “audio data not supported” is displayed on the TV, and I don’t understand why.

I contacted the Samsung support, we tried a few manipulation, in vain, in particular forcing TV to Tranféré the sound directly at the helm without decoding it, but without success, because the “Transfer” menu is grayed out on my TV and I Do not know why (Sound / Settings Expert / Digital audio output format (PCM / Auto / Transfer, the latter being grayed) ?

For example, test with this demo:

The Dolby Atmos compatibility option is well selected on the expert sound settings of the TV.

Samsung HW-Q990B

Writing note: 5 out of 5

The Samsung HW-Q990B is a high-end soundbar that promises an immersive cinema experience thanks to its configuration in 11.1.4 and its 22 speakers. Revealed during the CES 2022 of Las Vegas, she was able to arouse the interest of home cinema enthusiasts thanks to her numerous novelties.

The design of the HW-Q990B has been completely revisited compared to its predecessor, the HW-Q950A. The bar is now entirely covered with metal grids for a more refined look and better dust protection. Despite this change of look, the dimensions of the bar remain identical (123.2 x 6.95 x 13.8 cm) for a weight of 7.7 kg.

The HW-Q990B also incorporates new features that facilitate its use. The main of them is the possibility of passing the Dolby Atmos signals in WiFi between the TV and the bar, thus simplifying the installation of the system. This feature is however reserved for compatible Samsung televisions. The soundbar is also compatible with the Q-Symphony 2 function.0 which makes it possible to combine the speakers of a Samsung TV with those of the bar for an atmosphere rendering even more extensive. Finally, the HW-Q990B incorporates the new Space Fit Sound 2 calibration system.0 which automatically optimizes the sound rendering according to the acoustic characteristics of the listening part.

Regarding connections, the HW-Q990B has an HDMI input, an optical audio intake and a USB input. She also joined Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 6 for wireless broadcast of music stored on a smartphone or a connected speaker. The soundbar is also compatible with the SmartThings and Airplay 2 protocols for perfect integration into a home automation system or for the diffusion of music from an Apple device.

The Samsung HW-Q990B will be available from April 14, 2022 at a price of € 1599. If you are looking for a quality soundbar for your home cinema, the HW-Q990B certainly deserves to be taken into account.

Better yet, the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar can also receive the sound of the TV wirelessly, including the Dolby Atmos tracks when associated with a compatible Samsung TV. Finally, the sound of an arc compatible TV can be transmitted to the sound bar using an optical cable or in Bluetooth.

Thanks to its HDMI EARC port, the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar can recover the sound of any program viewed on TV.

Samsung HW-Q990B: Bluetooth and WiFi

The Bluetooth receiver integrated into the Samsung HW-Q990B sound bar authorizes reading music from a smartphone, a tablet or a compatible Bluetooth computer and allows for example to broadcast online music services such as Deezer, Spotify or qobuz.
