10 applications to download on your phone before a trip

Spawn is a great application to familiarize yourself with a new place.

Skyscanner – Travel offers 4+

When I choose trips I always do this function then I do a benchmark according to the different prices I validate the different tickets which could interest me in my trip
Unfortunately I just miss the fact I can share my different choices with my children and friends with whom we leave for us to decide together after.
Sand I am delighted with the app

Unable to compare direct flights

Still no possibility of comparing on the table the prices of direct flights only. Essential functionality disappeared from a few updates. Following the last update of August 21, still no possibility of comparing the price of direct flights on the graphic . To remedy this concern, it would just be enough to add the “direct flight only” box at the bottom of the calendar and the graphic as on the website. The iPhone/iPad app does not have this box. Thank you again to the developer of Skyscanner. Will soon be the same monthly comparative table of direct flight prices in order to make the best choice as on the site ?which allows you to choose the best price when the app only gives this after the choice of date. THANKS

Developer response ,

/ Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you had this bad experience. It would be very useful to us if you could give us more details about the flights in question so that we can investigate https: // help.skyscanner.net/hc/fr/requests/new. We are waiting for your answer with interest. The Skyscanner team

Some elements to review

The app is rather intuitive, fast and the research system for research is appreciable. However, very often, when you select the price of a flight presented graphically on a comparison (monthly for example), this price is no longer available in detail the flights concerning this day. The cheapest flight presented at € 50 in a comparison can appear at 80 when selecting the day concerned. This is particularly painful, especially since this concern is recurrent. The interest of a price comparator is put into perspective.
And if the price disappears, it is not because there would have been one or more reservations in the meantime and that the price would no longer be available: this happens at any time of the day or night, And time is too short between research and loading in detail of the results so that suddenly the flight in question is no longer available.
Too bad because this remains the most complete comparator among those that exist.

Developer response ,

Hello Kévin! We need the honesty of users to improve, so thank you for your comments – we will transmit them to our development team. Skyscanner works by storing the prices that our users have found in the last 15 days, and using this information to fill the tables and views on the calendars.

10 applications to download on your phone before a trip

Like it or not, mobile phones occupy an important place in our life. We use them to call, send messages, make appointments, find your way around in town, consult your accounts … In short it is difficult to do without it on a daily basis.

And traveling, it’s often the same thing ! Whether it is to give news to his loved ones, find the small restaurant in the surroundings, take photos, our phone is a privileged tool that makes our lives easier at the other end of the world. And to make the most of it, here is a list of 10 applications to install on your phone before a trip.

To make everyone happy, I only chose applications available both on iOS and Android

You need to use your phone abroad ? So go take a look at my article Which mobile plan to choose to travel ?

1. Google applications

Well it will seem stupid to talk about google because I imagine that if you read this blog, you are still a minimum informed on this company. But we really cannot deny that it has many applications that can be very useful on a trip, here are some that I particularly recommend:

    • Google Maps : I no longer present Google Maps, the classic application to find its way whether it is at home or traveling.
On the other hand I can present you a feature that we know less about the application. It is indeed possible to download in advance the cards of the countries in which you go. You will be able to consult the card without the Internet.
You can also add in advance the points you want to visit and classify them in different categories (restaurants, points of view, etc.)
    • Google Translate : When you go to a country whose language you do not know, this application can save your life. First of all because it allows you to translate a few small sentences that will allow you to make yourself understood when you are looking for your way for example. But also because the application has a very useful functionality: the translation of texts taken in photography. This feature served me for example in the various restaurants where I went to the Czech Republic. In the Czech campaign, it was indeed difficult to find restaurants with menus in English or French, with a simple photo I had all the translations.
    • Google Trips : Google Trips is an application that allows you to have your flights, reservations and recommendations in the same place. The application is connected to your Gmail account and detects emails for flights, hotels reservations etc … by updating according to what you receive. It is practical for all users of a Gmail messaging.

    2. N26

For your trips, it is better to find out about the rates practiced by your bank in the country where you go. Most of them invoice card withdrawals and payments. I therefore advise you to anticipate and download the N26 application, an online bank that reduces your bank charges abroad.

It’s been a few years since I discovered this bank and I must say that it is today the one I use for 99% of my trips. Registration is fully online on the application and it is completely free, you even receive a bank card directly at home. Card payments are free and commissions for withdrawals are much lower than in “classic” banks.

I speak to you in more detail about the banks to choose in my article: Which bank to choose on a trip ?

    3. Headpace

The trip is the discovery of new cultures, unexpected meetings, magnificent landscapes etc … But it is above all to have time for you. Get out of your daily routine and work to finally do what we like. And to help me recharge the batteries, I recently discovered an application that should please you: Headspace !

An application that allows you to learn the basics of mediation. It includes a wide variety of programs available according to the objectives you want to set yourself (fight anxiety, reduce stress, be more concentrated, etc.). The goal is to create a routine during your trips of just 10 minutes that will help you refocus on yourself, on your ideas, on your body … it seems nothing like that but when you think, how long you Go really think of yourself and your body ?

    4. Trout

Who has already made a trip with friends and was snatched from the hair by doing the accounts at the end of the trip ? Everyone ! (If not, you can go to the following app )

Tricout is the perfect way to solve this invoice problem ! Once you download the application, you enter all your common expenses, you indicate who paid what to whom. At the end of the trip, the application calculates what are the people who must reimburse expenses and especially to whom. No more puzzles on a sheet of paper and the impression of having paid half the holidays of your friends.

    5. Xeurcy

This application allows you to have an idea in real time of the exchange rate of all the currency in the world. It can be very useful to simply calculate local prices and estimate them in euros. But it can also help you when you go to a exchange office: you can see if the exchange rates they practice are completely disconnected from the real or not rate.

Believe me it can be useful to have this kind of application when you find yourself in front of your distributor in Vietnam and that it offers to withdraw 1,000,000,000 dongs in the greatest calm

    6. Hopper

Hopper is the application to prepare your trip par excellence ! It brings together flights and hotels and above all allows you to be able to create alerts to wait for the best price before booking. The application gives you an estimate of the privileged moment to reserve your ticket on a specific destination. Enough to save !

    7. Babbel (payable)

When traveling to a foreign country, knowing some basics of the local language can be useful ! First of all because it will prevent you from ordering anything in the restaurant but also because saying “hello” or “thank you” to a premises in your language is a good way to show it that you are interested in its culture. Believe me, in most cases they will be delighted even if your accent is not at all.

To have these bases, you can go through the Babbel application, which allows you to learn nearly 13 foreign languages. Whether it is to know a few words or really take things seriously and discover a new language. The application is paid but by clicking on the article link you have 3 free months to test it

I talk about it in my video in my video on Lisbon that you can see here:

    8. Happycow

This application is simply pure happiness for vegetarians like me. A bit like TripAdvisor, it allows you to identify restaurants well rated around you, but it only focuses on vegetarian and vegan establishments.

And it’s also a good opportunity to taste vegetarian cuisine if you are traveling

    9. HIDE MY ASS (VPN)

Censorship is a common practice in certain parts of the world and it can also affect the Internet and its content. This may concern Facebook or Google but also more harmless sites like Wikipedia. In order to counter this censorship you can download an application of VPN (Virtual Private Network). It will allow you to surf the net with an IP address in another country, you can therefore consult all the content accessible from this country. And this in a completely anonymous way. You can for example use it to watch the replay of a program whose content is blocked in the country where you are.

It is also a way to secure your connection because by hiding your IP address and making your connection more anonymous you prevent your research on the web be tracked. You can thus shop online (to book a hotel for example) in a much more secure manner even on public WiFi networks.

There are many applications that offer this service and I recommend one in particular: Hide My Ass. This is the one I use on a daily basis and I can recommend it to you for a particular thing: its ease of use. You change your IP address in 2 clicks without any visible change in connection speed. It’s just perfect when you travel a lot and often connects to unknown networks.

You can test the application for 7 days, it is then paid but you have a satisfied or reimbursed guarantee of 30 days.

    10. Avast

Again on the theme of security, I advise you to download Avast, the classic and free antivirus. I insist on this subject because when traveling we are often brought to connect to new public WiFi networks (to give news to loved ones for example) which are more or less safe. To avoid doing too much concerns about this, Avast is a simple and effective solution. The product has also been elected Best IT security software in 2018.

    And in addition it’s free

    (Bonus) WhatsApp

WhatsApp is an essential application when you go on a trip. I know that many of you already have it on their phone (that’s why I put it as a bonus) but I still recommend it. This is the best way to stay in touch with your loved ones, you will just need to find an internet connection to send messages or make calls.

Also be aware that WhatsApp is largely popular in most countries in the world. If you meet young people in South America, there are chances that they ask you for your WhatsApp to stay in touch. Likewise in countries like Russia where Facebook is not really popular and it will therefore be difficult for you to use Messenger with the locals.

I hope May this list have helped you find useful applications to best prepare your trip. Do not hesitate to give your own recommendations in the comments
