How to install a SIM card for my 4G or mobile wifi router wifi
Still discreet on the market, LTE –M routers are appearing (like this French manufacturer), therefore dedicated to low -rate IoT uses.
SIM card for 4G router: which to choose ?
The router is the access point for all the device’s device. When it comes to offering a connection to several users in a place little (or not) covered by a fiber or ADSL line, a SIM router is a simple and quick solution to implement.
In the same way as a conventional router (a box), it offers a wifi internet connection or secure cable.
What is a SIM card for 4G routers ?
There Router SIM card Allows it to connect to the cellular network (2g, 3g, 4G or 5G depending on the model and network coverage). The SIM router constitutes an alternative or insurance against the vagaries of the adsl or fiber networks. A 4G SIM (or 5G) router largely surpasses the fees of the ADSL or even in some cases of fiber.
Mobile by nature thanks to its SIM card, the SIM router allows you to be moved and to meet needs:
- Punctuals (site, professional show, event);
- Outdoor or difficult to access (photovoltaic panels, refuge, extended industrial installations);
- criticisms, such as the back-up of video surveillance and alarm systems.
It can also completely replace a wired internet connection if it is not sufficient. This is often the case outside of large cities without fiber optics.

Anatomy of a router with the SIM card
A router with SIM card consists mainly of two parts:
- The modem (for modulator/demodulator) which accesses the internet network via the SIM card;
- The router itself which distributes the connection to the terminals connected in wifi or wire (RJ45) when it is provided with physical connections.
Added to this is the power supply or even a battery on small models, which allows even more mobility: the movement of a class in an educational farm, a working group in a mining installation.
Operation of a 4G router with SIM M2M card
Regarding the entry level of SIM M2M routers, they have a fairly basic operation. This is to insert the SIM card, set out the router and copy the WiFi safety key.
For professional models like that of Wireless Logic, advanced configurations are offered such as the Port Forwarding, Lan IP Address, DHCP Range, Lan Subnet Mask…
Why opt for the multi-operator SIM card to connect its router ?
The router equipped with an M2M SIM card will automatically connect to the available network offering the strongest data signal. In France as abroad, you are sure to have the best possible connection. In the event of a breakdown or cut on the main network, the card will look for the second best network available to ensure continuity of service.
Some routers are pre-equipped with a SIM card. This is the case of the IoT Wireless Logic router . In this case, the router is preconfigured before commissioning which limits the installation to the simple connection.
Which cellular networks are compatible with a SIM router ?
The majority of SIM M2M routers currently on the market are designed for use under 2G, 3G, 4G networks, and connect to the most efficient network available.
The 5G routers start their marketing but it is hampered by a network of antennas still being deployed. In addition, the 5G which offers flows significantly higher than those of 4G is on the frequency of 3.5 GHz.
If Orange focuses on this frequency for its new antennas, this is not the case with other operators. You can therefore have better 5G reception and lower flows depending on the operator.
Still discreet on the market, LTE –M routers are appearing (like this French manufacturer), therefore dedicated to low -rate IoT uses.
What type of subscription to choose (shared, pay-as-you go, prepaid) ?
As with SIM Telephone, several subscription formulas are offered for SIM routers.
- The shared package: the entire SIM card park connecting all the routers (and other terminals) is governed by a single subscription offer. This offer optimizes its package according to its sector of activity and its uses. This also allows you to have an overview of your park with a single interlocutor and a single invoicing.
- The PAY-AS-YOU-GO package allows you to pay only the data consumed. It is suitable for occasional uses, such as a professional show, an event.

- Find the SIM card slot on the rear panel.
- Get a SIM card (micro or nano) that adapts to the location.
- For a location for micro SIM card:
Trick : With the SIM card adapter and the sticker provided, you can convert a Nano SIM card to adapt it to a micro location.
- For a nano sim card location:
Noticed : Only a nano sim card can adapt to a nano location, so no SIM card adapter or sticker is provided.
- With golden contacts downwards, insert the SIM card into the slit until you hear a click.
- When you insert a SIM card, make sure the SIM card is in the right direction. Do not insert at an angle or do not use strength.
- Do not insert an empty card adapter in the card slit. Otherwise, the card slot could be damaged.
Scenario 2: Install a SIM card for a Wi-Fi mobile
- Remove the rear cover and find the SIM card location.
- Get a SIM card (standard or micro) that adapts to the slit, then install the card.
Attention : When inserting a SIM card, make sure the SIM card is in the right direction. Do not insert at an angle or do not use strength.
- For a standard SIM card location:
Trick : With the SIM card adapter and the sticker provided, you can convert a micro or nano sim card to adapt it to a standard location.
- For a location for micro SIM card:
Trick : With the SIM card adapter and the sticker provided, you can convert a Nano SIM card to adapt it to a micro location.
