How to share / send the heavy photos and videos of your iPhone

iOS 12 has introduced a lot of new features. And a small addition to the Photos Application can considerably change how you share your photos and videos. Instead of sending photos and videos by SMS or e-mail from your iPhone, you can send an iCloud link that recipients can use to view and, if they wish, download what you have shared.

Here’s how it works:

First make sure that iCloud Photos is activated. Open Settings, press your Apple identifier at the top of the screen, then go to iCloud> Photos and make sure that iCloud Photos is activated.

With iCloud photos activated, you will see a new option on the sharing tab. Select a photo or video (or more photos and videos), then press the Share button. You will see a new button in the lower row titled “Copy the iCloud link”. A link will be copied in your clipboard. You can then stick it in a text, an email or a message.

Share photos and videos with the iCloud link

In the Photos Application, you can also press the header of a photo group. Press the button with three points at the top right, then press “Share the photos”. From there, you can deselect the photos you don’t want to send. Press Next to add people to the recipient list.

If you use the Messages app, you and your recipients will see a pretty preview of the photos or videos that you share. The iCloud link expires after 30 days. When someone shares an iCloud photo link with you, press the miniature link or overview to open the Photos Application. From there, you can view photos or videos without needing to download them beforehand.

To download shared photos or videos, press the Blue button Add everything. Or you can press select under the button.

Block a link

The iCloud links expire after a month, but you can revoke access at any time. Press a shared album to open it, press the button with three points at the top right, then press Share Sharing. Access will be immediately deleted.
