Galaxy S22: Discover the crowd of new photo options

With this new GN5 sensor, Samsung will significantly improve the photo performance of its flagships. It has now been several years since the Korean giant focused on the most expensive ultra version, but the two more affordable flagships should finally benefit from an improvement in this field.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra: Photo news

Like the previous generation of high -end Samsung smartphones, the new galaxy are available in three models: S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. On the photo side, some hardware and software new features are there.

Respecting a now well established formula, the Samsung Galaxy family once again offers three smartphones which are distinguished in particular by their screen size – as well as by their template. The Galaxy S22 thus has an AMOLED screen of 6.1 ″ (definition of 2,340 x 1,080 px), while the screens of S22+ and S22 ultra reach 6.6 ″ (2,340 x 1,080 px) and S22 respectively) and respectively) and respectively) and 6.8 ″ (3,088 x 1,440 px).

If all three are equipped with an Exynos 2200 SOC, some other differences must be noted. The S22 and S22+ offer 8 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of storage, as well as a respective battery of 3,700 and 4,500 mAh. The Galaxy S22 Ultra benefits from 8 or 12 GB of RAM, from 128 GB to 1 TB of storage and a 5,000 mAh battery. Ultra also differentiates by the integration of an S Pen stylus, a characteristic which was until then the prerogative of the Galaxy Note range.

Cattered devices do you want, here it is

Regarding their photographic characteristics, the S22 and S22+ share a common technical sheet, while the Ultra S22 is once again rider. On the back of the first two, there is a main camera composed of a stabilized 24 mm f/1.8 stabilized lens and a 1/1.56 ″ sensor with a definition of 50 MP, a second photo module combining a Long stabilized focal length 70 mm f/2.4 and a 1/3.94 ″ 10 Mpx sensor, as well as an ultra-angle module integrating a 13 mm f/2.2 lens and a 1/2.55 sensor ″ 12 Mpx.

On the video side, recording is possible in 8K to 24 I/S, in 4K up to 60 i/s and 1,080p up to 240 I/S. Let us also note the presence, on the front of smartphones, of a device including a 26 mm f/2.2 optics and a 1/3.24 ″ sensor of a definition of 10 MP.

If the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers a configuration made of four distinct cameras, it turns out to be relatively similar to what was offered by S21 Ultra a year ago. Alongside a main module consisting of a large-angle stabilized 24 mm f/1.8 and a 1/1.33 ″ sensor of 108 MP, there are two “teleoblusts” also equipped with a system stabilization: a 70 mm f/2.4 coupled with a 1/3.52 ″ sensor of 10 MP, and a periscopic lens 230 mm f/4.9 accompanied by another 1/3.52 sensor of 10 10 MPX. The table is of course completed by an ultra-angle module: it incorporates a 13 mm f/2.2 lens and a 1/2.55 ″ sensor of a definition of 12 MP.

With video capacities similar to its two accomplices, the Ultra S22 allows recording in 8k to 24 i/s, in 4K up to 60 i/s and 1,080p up to 240 I/s. At the front of the smartphone, there is finally a 26 mm f/2.2 optics and a 1/2.82 ″ sensor of a 40 MP definition.

Among the myriad of methods of viewing and software features praised by Samsung, note the compatibility of the new generation of Galaxy smartphones with the Expert RAW application application. Presented a few months ago and already compatible with some brand models, it allows experienced photographers to access manual parameters (ISO sensitivity, shutter speed, white balance, etc.), and to capture 16 -bit images in DNG format.

Price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ smartphones will be on sale from March 11, 2022. The S22 will then be offered at € 859 (128 GB version) or € 909 (256 GB), while S22+ will have a price of € 1,059 (128 GB) or € 1,109 (256 GB). The Galaxy S22 Ultra will be marketed from February 25 at € 1,259 (128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM), € 1,59 (256 GB and 12 GB), € 1,459 (512 GB and 12 GB ) and € 1,659 (1 TB and 12 GB).

Galaxy S22: Discover the crowd of new photo options

The Galaxy S22 benefit from new modes dedicated to astrophotography or even multiple exhibitions. The camera also now offers more creative control.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Smartphones have the possibility of improving from one update to the other. With high -end smartphones, manufacturers sometimes even try to add new features to open the way for the next generation. The Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, which have just been updated to One Ui 5, have just seen several photo new products announced by the brand via A press release. You can already install them if you have one of these smartphones.

First novelty, the Expert RAW application, which gives more control on the camera than the basic app, is added two new modes. The first is a mode dedicated to astrophotography.

At the top right of the interface, a constellation icon allows you to access it. Once launched, the mode displays the constellations in the sky and offers you to adjust the break time.

Another interesting addition, a mode called “multiple exhibitions” allows you to shoot several images in a row to combine them. You will also find this mode at the top right of the interface, with an icon in the form of two rectangles that meet.

The camera assistant

When you take photos on smartphone, you often have the choice between being completely handed or diving into pro mode which may seem a bit complex. Halfway, Samsung decided to add an assistant from the camera to allow you to gain a little more creative control, even outside the pro mode.

To activate it, you will need to go to the Galaxy Store to download the Assistant app of the camera. Once installed, go to the settings where you are waiting for a new under menu containing the assistant.

It contains a total of 8 new settings:

  • Automatic HDR: If you want atmospheric photos without HDR effect, you just need to deactivate it.

  • Soften the photos: You can activate this function to soften the net edges and textures of your photos.

  • Automatic change of lens: You can now deactivate the automatic lens change function, which automatically changes a goal in dark environments or when you get closer to the object to photograph. For example, if you want to continue using the telephoto lens instead of the wide lens to take a photo of the object closer to you, you just have to deactivate it in the menu in the menu.
  • Video recording in photo mode: You can deactivate this function, which allows you to take a video clip by pressing the button in photo mode for a long time, which saves you from accidentally saving a video.
  • Number of photos after timer: You could already automatically take several quick succession photos after the timer count. Now you can also choose the number of photos to take (1, 3, 5 or 7 photos).
  • Faster shutter: This mode allows you to take up to seven photos in a second. This function is very useful for taking pictures of moving objects.
  • Camera waiting time: You can select the duration during which the camera application (preview screen) remains continuously lit for 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes.
  • Clean overview on HDMI screens: Display the preview of the camera without menus or buttons on the screens connected in HDMI.

Galaxy S22: Best photo performance thanks to the latest 50 MP sensor in Samsung

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ promise to be real revolutions for the photo part compared to previous generations. Samsung would have decided to provide smartphones with its latest innovations in sensors.

Galaxy S21

According to information from the Leaker Ice Universe, Samsung will use a new 50 Mp sensor on its next flagships Galaxy S22 and S22+. The Korean giant recently presented a new 200 MP sensor as well as a 50 Mp GN5 sensor, and it is the latter that Samsung will use on its devices.

We already knew that Samsung intended to equip its aircraft with a main sensor of 50 Mp to film in 8K, but we now know that this is the New ISOCELL GN5. This is significantly larger than the 12 MP sensor of the 2021 Galaxy S21, sinceIt measures 1/1.57 inch, Against 1/1.76 inch on the previous generation.

Samsung will improve the quality of the photos of the Galaxy S22

With this new GN5 sensor, Samsung will significantly improve the photo performance of its flagships. It has now been several years since the Korean giant focused on the most expensive ultra version, but the two more affordable flagships should finally benefit from an improvement in this field.

The Isocell GN5 sensor is able to film in 8K at 30 fps and a 4K at 120 fps. It offers individual pixels of 1 micron, but thanks to Pixel-Binning technology, the sensor is able to take Clichés of 12.5 Mp with photosites of 2 microns. This will allow the sensor to capture more light than the previous generation, so we should have better shots in low light.

In addition to this 50 Mp sensor, we know that Samsung intends to equip its galaxy s22 withAn ultra-wide-angle sensor of 12 Mp, as well as a 10 Mp telephoto lens. The latter would allow smartphones to make a 3X optical zoom, against only 1.1x on the Galaxy S21 and S21+.

It would be a major change for the series of smartphones, since This would make the two most affordable models much more versatile. These should therefore be interesting options to consider if you do not need the 10x optical zoom of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Anyway, we had to learn more about it as we approach the launch date in January 2022.
