Samsung Galaxy S10: Notice, Price and Complete Technical Guide

While Android competition has intensified in recent months, the Samsung Galaxy S10 was expected at the turn. The Korean brand took advantage of a conference in San Francisco to unveil this new reference smartphone in 2019. Available in 3 different versions – the Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10E – This new phone offers all the latest features for an Android phone. Below, all the details for Give you this Galaxy S10 Samsung Galaxy. We will see the price, power, camera or reverse recharge – but also even more advanced technical characteristics. We go around.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Design

While the giants Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Google released at the end of 2018 a series of new smartphones under the Excellent Android OS, Samsung had to answer with a new smartphone, still more complete. The Korean giant generally takes advantage of the mobile world congress at the end of February to formalize its latest smartphones.

After the Galaxy S9, this is now the Samsung Galaxy S10. This is in line with previous models, but it turns out to be much more complete. As you will see in our opinion on this Samsung Galaxy S10 below, and as you can also see in the comparative table of prices opposite, the price for this new flagship remains very far from its eternal Apple Apple.

Galaxy S10 at the best price basic price: 759 €

Before entering the details of this opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S10, you should know that the Korean brand has imposed itself over the years as the number one world manufacturer with more than 20% market share on smartphones. He positioned himself in front of the Chinese Huawei who exceeded Apple in the last months of 2018. His expertise, he readily shares it with other actors like Apple who uses Samsung screens for his iPhone. Let’s now come to the technical characteristics of the latest Galaxy S10.

Design of the Samsung Galaxy S10

Size and performance of its screen

If the Samsung Galaxy S9 was quite close in terms of the design of its predecessor, the Galaxy S8, the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 offers this time a very different style as we promised one of the big managers of the group. With this new smartphone and this new aesthetics, the Korean group wants to go to a new stadium and take the opportunity to get to the standards of the moment. The image below in our Galaxy S10 review, the different sizes of the different S10 models available.

Samsung Galaxy S10E VS S10 VS S10+

The Korean firm is renowned for the quality of its AMOLED screens, and this new Galaxy S10 shows once again the exploits it is able to make. The new Galaxy S10 offers a 6.1 -inch screen against only 5.8 inches for the previous model. What is the most impressive is that the Screen-to-Body ratio (screen surface compared to the size of the case) climbs to 87.54% against 84.51% for S9, or 82, 9% for the iPhone XS.

If the Samsung electronics giant has managed such a feat, it is thanks to the photo sensor placed directly on the screen of the Galaxy S10 (similar to the Galaxy A8s or Honor View 20 on the competitors) as well as thanks to its very Beautiful “Infinity Display” screen which occupies the maximum of the screen.

Note that the larger version, S10+, offers two photo sensors at the front, which partly justifies the price difference. Samsung has used us there, and this is again the case: the screen of the Galaxy S10 is always curved to allow a screen almost without edge.

At the size of the Galaxy S10 case, we are on 7.04 x 14.9 x 0.78 cm – which corresponds to a slightly finer smartphone than the old (0.85 cm), but a little larger (the S9 was 14.7 x 6.87 cm). However, it remains a little smaller than the Galaxy S10+ which is 7.41 x 15.8 x 0.78 cm.

We will also appreciate that the manufacturer Samsung remains faithful to the 3.5 mm jack on all its new models of smartphones – which many of its competitors have decided to put aside. Now let’s go into our opinion on this galaxy S10 to the fingerprint sensor which is distinguished from competition because it is by ultrasound.

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor

In addition to offering a facial recognition system, Samsung has decided to slightly adapt its fingerprint sensor which has so far been at the back of its smartphone. For the new Galaxy S10 and the S10+, this imprint reader is placed under the screen directly, which is reminiscent of the last Huawei Mate 20 Pro or the OnePlus 6T.

Samsung, however, uses an ultrasonic detection method (unlike the others that rely on an optical reader), which makes some fear of compatibility with protections that are placed on the screen. In parallel, such a system makes it possible to operate the sensor even in case of high light. It is therefore an advantage as a drawback.

On the other hand, this sensor remains on the side of the S10E screen, the manufacturer’s entry -level model. This scenario is possible on this phone given the fact that it does not have a curved screen, and that there is room on the edge for such a system. The image below illustrates our opinion on the Galaxy S10 and this ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Color of the new Galaxy S10

While the Korean has long accustomed us to his colors black, Corail and Mauve, he decided to change his style in a fairly drastic way on this last model since the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be officially available in black, white or green. According to some rumors, a Gold version could see the light of day later.

Regarding the other variations of his smartphone, Samsung has decided to standardize the colors since the S10E and the S10+ are also available in black, white or green color. Note that the most premium version that is S10+, a black ceramic model is also available for purchase. Below, an image taken during the conference where the Galaxy S10 was revealed.

Weight of this Galaxy S10

Samsung is also up to weight since its new Samsung Galaxy S10 weighs only 157 grams, against 163 grams for the S9, but especially 177 grams for the iPhone XS. Compared to its big brother, the S10+, it remains much lighter since the latter still makes 175 grams. Now let’s move on in our Galaxy S10 opinion to the technical part.

Technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S10

Exynos 9820 SOC performance

While smartphones always require more power to run the applications, Samsung has formalized last November a new house chip called Exynos 9820 with an 8nm engraving that took over from its Exynos 9810 processor.

It is this which is integrated into all smartphones for Europe (including France), while the rest of the world has the right to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip 855. Samsung, however, made sure that performance will be quite similar from one chip to another, and that the user would see no difference. Compared to the Galaxy S9, Samsung has improved performance in a substantial manner: a 29% CPU more efficient than the previous one, and a 37% more efficient GPU. This allows you to run the latest most popular games even faster.

The performance of the Galaxy S10 vs that of the S9

It should also be noted that the Samsung S10 has 8 GB of RAM (the S10+ can go up to 12 GB of RAM) to improve the system speed. Samsung explained that he also integrated an artificial intelligence algorithm which allows us to understand the behavior of users of the Galaxy S10 to then optimize the battery and the performance of the smartphone. Now let’s go into this opinion on the Galaxy S10 in the photo offer.

Camera and image processing

Triple photo sensor on the back of the Galaxy S10

The Samsung Galaxy S9 was already very recognized in the environment for the quality of its photo sensor (however, there was only one), both in low light and in strong light. With its new model, the Korean firm has decided to replace itself in the face of the competition by offering a triple photo sensor at the back of its Galaxy S10, also with a flash. It is as much as on the S10+ and one more than on the S10E. Below in our Galaxy S10 review, an image that illustrates all the sensors of the new phone.

Triple photo sensor of the Galaxy S10

The first main sensor made 12 Mpx (opening f/1.5 – f/2.4), while the second offers a wide angle (f/2.2) and the last one is none other than a telephoto lens sensor With an optical zoom x 2 (f/2.4) which we do not find however on the S10E. When we know the quality of the S9 on the image, we have absolutely no doubt that the Galaxy S10 will be really excellent on this point. Samsung even says that this is a “pros camera that can be used by non-pros”.

What further strengthens our positive opinion on the Galaxy S10 is the fact that the smartphone also now incorporates an optical stabilization system (in CAM action mode), a scene optimizer and a very professional framing system for sound Triple photo sensor. The brand has also offered a quick launch system to facilitate taking photos on the spot.

Among the new features, Samsung also announced a version of Adobe Premier Rush CC adapted for Galaxy smartphones. The Korean wants to facilitate the publishing of videos directly on phones, without even having to go through a computer. He thus wants to simplify the sharing of content on social networks.

Only one camera on the front of the phone

While the S10+ has a double sensor at the front, the new Samsung Galaxy S10 offers a single sensor at the front which allows you to have an even larger screen surface. In terms of quality, it is a 10 Mpx sensor with an f/1.9 opening, an even more effective autofocus system which can be activated by voice control. As always, it is the screen that will serve as flash if necessary (but ineffective). The front camera is also able to record UHD for videos. An “Instagram” mode directly allows you to post the selfie that has been taken on the social network, with the default publishing tools available on Instagram.

Samsung Galaxy S10 camera

Samsung has also published an SDK that allows mobile applications to have the same photo quality as on the classic photo application of the Galaxy S10. In other words, taking a photo via Instagram or Snapchat for example (partners unveiled during the event), it is possible to have the same quality of picture on if we had directly taken a photo from the application.

Telephone autonomy and recharge

Samsung has accustomed us with its previous phones to a fairly substantial autonomy – at least more interesting than its Apple Rival. Smartphone recharging can be wireless, and it is also compatible with the fast charging system. In terms of duration, the new Galaxy S10 smartphone can last more than a day (without knowing the number of hours) thanks to a powerful 3400 mAh battery. Compared to the Galaxy S9, autonomy increases by approximately 25% according to figures announced at the conference.

Battery of the S10 vs that of the S9

This year, the firm has decided to bring a novelty that allows you to share the load with another smartphone. This is a system that we already find on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro: just come and place a Qi compatible smartphone on the Galaxy S10 so that it operates a wireless, wireless transfer. This is the principle of reverse wireless recharging. In our opinion, the Galaxy S10 is seriously leading to the iPhone XS, and Apple will have to answer with a similar solution for its next phone. Some rumors go in this direction. Now let’s move on in our Galaxy S10 review at the apparatus of the device.

Reverse load on the Galaxy S10

Welp of the Galaxy S10

The Korean smartphones manufacturer has always attached great importance to the waterproofing of its models. Again, there are characteristics quite similar to the previous model since the Samsung Galaxy S10 is always water resistant (IP 68 standard) and it is also resistant to dust. These are two standards that are found in most large manufacturers of Android smartphones today. Last point in our opinion Galaxy S10: the price !

Price of the Samsung Galaxy S10 (vs the S9)

While some actors like Huawei have decided to significantly increase the prices of their new smartphones (even if it means lowering them later), the Galaxy S10 has a price that is in line with its previous models. So there is no real surprise on the latter, although it remains at the top of the Android smartphones fork.

You should know that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is available in two versions: 128 GB or 512 GB. The first is available at an official price of € 909 (€ 50 more than the old model) and the second is sold at € 1159. For comparison, the iPhone XS of 512 GB is sold at € 1559 – the price difference is therefore quite colossal. As for the S10+, the basic price is € 1009, 100 € more than the Galaxy S10. Note that a micro SD port allows you to add up to 512 GB of additional storage.

Regardless of the color of the Galaxy S10, the price will remain the same. Below, you can see the price of the Galaxy S10 at the various merchants. The new Samsung smartphone is available everywhere since March 9, 2019. The table below displays the best price in real time: as you can see, its price has dropped largely since.

Galaxy S10 at the best price basic price: 759 €

With these reduced prices, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is above most of its competitors such as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the Honor View 20 or the Mi 9 of Xiaomi. The Korean brand has, however, a premium side and a finish for its smartphone (both in terms of design and on the camera) that others have not necessarily. This therefore justifies this price level for the Galaxy S10. However, he still remains very far from his great Apple rival.

Here is now our final opinion on the Galaxy S10.

Conclusion: Opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S10

In recent months, we have really seen arriving a convergence between all Android phones. This new Samsung galaxy S10 completes the previous version to which new features it was missing: additional photo sensors, inverted wireless recharging, deletion of the notch, fingerprint reader under the screen – so many features that largely justify The evolution of the price between the S9 and the new S10. On the other hand, this new smartphone does not come with a new major innovation that we would have appreciated seeing. It will then be necessary on the side of the Galaxy Fold (which costs more than 2000 €) to find a real change.

Nevertheless, it must be recognized that this Samsung Galaxy S10 is now one of the new references on the market, and no need to specify that it will once again sell itself. In total, more than 2 billion “galaxy” smartphones have already been sold around the world. The brand has recognized expertise in the photos, but also on the quality of its screen as well as on the battery of its smartphones. For those who want the phone with the Android bone that rivals the best with an iPhone from Apple, it is to this Galaxy S10 that you have to turn.

And you, what is your opinion on this Samsung Galaxy S10 ?

Test of the Samsung Galaxy S10: an excellent smartphone… with the ass between two chairs

Samsung Galaxy S10 test: an excellent smartphone. With the ass between two chairs

The Galaxy S10 (909 euros) is the cadet of the range, stuck between the Galaxy S10+ (1.009 euros) and the Galaxy S10E (759 euros). Given the minimum differences in prices, dimension, camera, performance and autonomy, we have often wondered why this smartphone exists and to which it is exactly.

Samsung assures that there would be no S10E or S10+ without the S10 which is the keystone of the range. It is also a little smaller, therefore ideal for those who want all the power of the S10+ in a more compact format. Anyway, for us, the S10+ and the S10 have an audience and very clear value proposals, while the identity of the S10 is more blurred.

And yet it would be a mistake to ignore this model because it is an absolutely great phone. This is not surprising if it is considered that it is only a clean version of the excellent Galaxy S10+ which is already among The best smartphones of 2019.

The S10 shares the same basic characteristics as the S10+, in particular the design, the quality of the screen, the triple rear camera, the possibility of loading another wireless device by putting it on the back of the S10, etc.

But there are still some differences:

  • There is only one front camera instead of two, but that doesn’t take much away;
  • The screen is slightly smaller (6.1 inches against 6.4 on the S10+);
  • The battery life is a little shorter (a little more than 18 hours during our test against 21 hours for the S10+);
  • There is no storage option of 1 teraoctet;
  • There is no ceramic back option as is the case for the Galaxy S10+ of 512 GB and 1 To.
