2022 marks the return of Samsung to the laptop computers in France. The opportunity for us to test the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360, a PC 2-in-1 of barely 1 kg equipped with a 12th generation Intel processor and an OLED screen.

Presentation

During the MWC in Barcelona in 2022, Samsung unveiled its range of PC Galaxy Book2 intended for Europe. It is made up of three computers: the Galaxy Book2 360, the Galaxy Book2 Pro and the GalaxyBook2 Pro 360. It is the latter that we are testing here in a high -end version 13.3 inch equipped with an Intel Core i7 and sold 1600 € when it is released, this PC also existing in 15.6 inch format for 100 € more. You will find two commerce colors, an anthracite gray and a fairly original burgundy red. With a very small kilo on the scale, an OLED screen, a 12th generation processor, and an Intel Evo certification, the PC has serious assets to assert, but will he get the note ? Answer…

Construction

In terms of construction quality, Samsung succeeds with a sleek design, an anodized aluminum chassis and impeccable finishes. Please note, the hood, however, holds a lot of fingerprints. As the name of the PC indicates, its hinges rotate 360 ​​°, which allows it to be used as a display or a touch pad. With this model, a stylus (s Pen) is also provided, which is very appreciable while other brands sell their separately.

Effective and sensitive to pressure, it has the advantage of not having to be recharged since it does not have a Bluetooth connection, and does not consume any energy. Its features are however very limited and the lateral button is only used in drawing applications, in order to use gum in particular. Magnetic, it sticks easily to the hood of the computer.

The touchpad is very fluid, but sinks a little too much under pressure at the front; As for the keyboard, it prides itself on good responsiveness although the delicacy of the keys is a little confusing at the beginning. The backlight is powerful and adjustable on four levels and a fingerprint reader acting as a on/off button is located at the top right of the keyboard, which is very practical to unlock the computer quickly. Not having an infrared module, the webcam cannot however offer this functionality of Windows Hello.

This films in 1080p, a good thing in theory, but the image quality is frankly average, very rough even when the light is sufficient. In the dark, the result is – as always – well worse.

In terms of connection, the PC is so fine that Samsung has only integrated three USB-C ports: a Thunderbolt 4, a microSD card reader and a mini-jack socket. It will therefore be necessary to obtain a hub to add USB-A or HDMI in particular. WiFi is in 6th grade, the latest and fastest standard, and Bluetooth in 5.1.

The four puciform chassis screws are hidden under rubber feet. Unlike other manufacturers who stick the feet of their PCs, Samsung had the good idea to install removable models, really practical to access the components. If the RAM is united, we can however change the SSD M.2, simply covered by an adhesive, as well as the battery fixed by a few screws.

Ventilation blows from time to time, especially when using demanding software, but remains very light: we have barely raised 33 db on cinebench. The only fan therefore turns quite slowly, but coupled with the finesse of the chassis, this leads to a significant heating of the computer. Above the keyboard, the metal is mounted at 44 ° C, while the keyboard center exceeds 39 ° C. Nothing dangerous of course, and this is only valid.

Performance

Our test model is equipped with an SSD of 1 TB (even if the marketed version caps at 512 GB), 16 GB of RAM DDR5 and the brand new Intel Core i7-1260p processor that we are testing for the first time. Clocked at 3.4 GHz and 4.7 GHz in turbo, it incorporates the hybrid architecture of the Alder Lake generation with 12 cores in total: four cores performance and eight efficient cores.

He obtained a performance index of 91, higher than the Core i7-1165g7 found in many ultrabooks, but ultimately at a Ryzen 5600U of AMD. Amply sufficient for office automation and most tasks, but nothing dazzling. The chip also seems not to be expressed completely, other laptop computers equipped with the same processor showing for example 18 % faster – we think in particular of the Asus ZenBook OLED 14.

This is explained by the choice of a fairly limited thermal envelope (TDP) in this case: if it is 28 W, we can see that during long treatments (more than 28 s), the TDP is confined to Only 20 W only, which is not the case with the Asus. Samsung therefore voluntarily broken the processor so that it does not heat too much, which is understandable in a particularly fine chassis. An assumed choice.

We also tested the SSD, which reaches 2.3 GB/s in sequential reading and 1.2 GB/s in writing. Nothing very stubborn. Finally, a word on IGPU’s abilities: it allowed us to play Diablo III graphics on “high” at 26 i/s and Overwatch Set in low quality at 37 i/s. Enough to have fun with old titles or games that are not very gourmet, but not much more.

Screen

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is equipped with a 13.3.3 -inch AMOLED Full HD screen screen. This one displays beautiful characteristics overall with infinite contrast and zero persistence thanks to the OLED, in addition to a barely 1.5 delta e. Its color temperature of 7140 k is a little cold, without however moving away from the video standard (6500 k). The slab fishing by its very large reflectance of 53.7 %, which will only be partially offset by a brightness at 392 CD/m2, correct, but without more. On such a high -end PC, we would have appreciated an anti -reflective treatment of the slab. Finally, the screen occupancy rate is 80 % “only” because of the 16: 9 format of it and the black band which covers the space in the lower part.

1. Link to windows – Application Your Phone
Supported on the models of the S, Z and note series with the One UI 3 version.1.1 or later and Windows PC 10 8:1h (2004) or subsequent. The characteristics and availability of the application may vary depending on the country. The Your Phone application requires being under Windows 10 or a later version.
