Handing: a little air of Galaxy A53 5G

At the unpacking of the Galaxy A33 5G, we were taken with a doubt: Wouldn’t we have already tested this terminal without remembering ? The answer is no : It just looks a lot like the Galaxy A53 5G, Passed in our hands a few months ago. The two devices are really similar: same matte plastic shell, same black outline, same presentation of the photo block and a similar thickness.

The dimensions of the two terminals are also the same, a few tenths of millimeters: nothing that is really perceptible to the naked eye. The Galaxy A33 5G is lighter by 3 grams on the scale, which is also anecdotal.

Unlike the Galaxy A53 5G, The Galaxy A33 5G sees its SIM card hatch installed on top of its outline, and not below. On the left side are the ignition button and the volume setting. A speaker and a USB-C port take place on the slice below. No auxiliary socket on this smartphone, which is also equipped with a fingerprint sensor under the screen. It displays an IP67 sealing index.

A Super AMOLED screen that feels good

If the predecessor of the Galaxy A33 5G had an LCD slab, this new model is equipped withA 6.4 -inch Diagonal Super Amoled slab. Inevitably, the difference is notable, especially since it is possible to opt for a refresh rate of 90 Hz Instead of the Simple 60 Hz.

The device displays Full HD+ 1080 x 2400 pixels definition, which allows you to enjoy a beautiful image in all contexts. The fluidity is there and the colors are beautiful. The experience is therefore satisfactory and it must be admitted that it is difficult to take Samsung in default on the side of the screens of its smartphones. Some settings are available in parameters, in particular with regard to visual comfort, fluidity or the possibility of manually adjusting the white balance.

An air of already seen on the performance side

The Samsung Galaxy A33 5G shares a little more than its design with the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, since the two devices have the same SOC, namely a Exynos 1280. This processor was also inaugurated by this range of smartphone: it is a model engraved in 5 Nm and with two Cortex-A78 to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 to 2 GHz side, CPU side, and an Arm-Mali G78 GPU.

Benchmarks highlight limited performance despite good stability. No surprise if you have already read our Galaxy A53 test, the results obtained are similar.

Little gourmet games, that operate on a mainly fixed basis, run well On this Samsung smartphone. On the other hand, the situation is less good when it comes to playing PUBG, Fortnite or GENSHIN IMPACT (for this one, it is a bit of masochism) the performance is disappointing, and it is not particularly surprising.

In a use that can be considered to be moderate, that is to say to surf the internet, play small games, use daily applications (bank, social networks, GPS) or to watch videos, The Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is honorably. You just have to not ask him too much.

A well -established interface

The interface of this Samsung smartphone posted A combination of Android 12 and one UI 4.1, Or the manufacturer’s “traditional” proposal for its entry and mid -range devices this year. Nothing new under the sun, since we find the now well-known personalization features of Android 12, to which are added options related to safety, accessibility or even digital well-being.

Samsung’s software overlay is more or less present depending on your desires. If you do not log into your Samsung account at the first launch of the device, you immediately deprive yourself of certain features offered by the manufacturer. That said, they are completely optional, so unless they have other devices present in the Samsung ecosystem, You can do well.

A satisfactory experience on the photo side

The Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is equipped with four photo sensors at the back:

  • A great angle of 48 megapixels
  • An ultra-angle of 8 megapixels
  • A macro sensor of 5 megapixels
  • A depth sensor of 2 megapixels

To this is added a front sensor of 13 megapixels For selfies.

Generally, This model is a little less well served than the Galaxy A53 5G, But his proposal turns out to be completely at the level of what is expected of a mid -range 5G smartphone. During the day, the terminal is doing really well, in particular thanks to effective work of the software part developed by Samsung.

We note, however, that Ultra Grand Angle tends to distort the subject enormously, which forces the smartphone software to do a lot of work after shooting. It somewhat harms details of the shot and the general dive is average for this reason.

The digital zoom goes up to X10 and even if it is not the worst that we were able to meet during our tests, It is nonetheless frankly limited.

At night, the photos are drinking, with A clear advantage for the 48 megapixel main sensor. The shots, however, quickly become blurred and capturing a moving subject is difficult. It’s a bit of the black point of the photo side on the photo.

Finally, in terms of selfies, the objective is achieved without transcending the subject. Samsung offers some entertaining filters for lovers of quirky portraits.

More convincing autonomy than loading

With a battery ofA typical capacity of 5000 mAh And average performance, the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G has everything a great candidate for high autonomy. In daily use that is described as standard, it easily holds the charge for 24 hours. Intense use of energy games and applications allows you to use it for 16 to 18 hours. Finally, if you request it little, it can reach 48 hours before passing under the 10% battery mark.

Loading side, Samsung provides only a USB-C cable in the smartphone box. The charger is sold separately. In practice, with a load of 25W supported as much as possible with the device, any model can do the trick. Count about 1:10 to get the battery from 0 to 100% with a sector connection. There is no wireless load offered.

Conclusion

Strong points

  • Nice design
  • An appreciable passage to the amoled
  • Good autonomy
  • Correct photo part

Samsung A33 Test

The Galaxy A33 is the worthy successor to the Galaxy A32 from last year. For a recommended sale price of 379 euros, you will buy a good mid -range smartphone with a very nice screen, an IP67 certification, a big battery of 5000 mAh and a camera of 48 Mp with optical stabilization of the image. The fact that the other sensors of the quadruple photo module are not as convincing, that the exynos 1280 is not an SoC for gaming and that the charger is not provided, does not particularly harm the whole.

The Galaxy A33 also scores points with the bone, because on the one hand it runs on Android 12 with the Oneui 4 overlay.1 and the other, he benefits from the Samsung update policy. The only real problem of the A33 is fierce competition in this price category, even at Samsung!

Samsung Galaxy A33 – Design and finish

Samsung has not changed things too much in terms of design. But it was not necessary either, because the Galaxy A33 with its mixture of plastic on the back and Gorilla glass at the front knows how to please. Thanks to a good finish, the smartphone really gives a feeling of quality, and the A33 scores points with its IP67 certification.

I loved

  • Quality finish
  • IP67 certification
  • The right handling
  • Mate finish

I did not like

  • The fairly wide chin
  • The absence of headphone jack

Samsung will certainly not win the Nobel Prize for Innovation with the design of the Galaxy A33. But it was not necessary either to change such a successful design. Design, including the photo module with its transition to the case, is inspired by other Samsung models. On the Galaxy A32 5G, the camera sensors were still visible without this photo module.

I also like the matt finish, but I have already left several traces of my fatty fingers there. On the facade, we notice that the chin is wider than the forehead. The edges around the screen protected by the Gorilla Glass 5 glass are therefore not symmetrical.

BLICK AUF Rück- und unterseite of A33

The back is plastic, but does not give the impression of being cheap. In general, the smartphone is very well in hand, but it can be different for people who do not have my huge hands. It is interesting to note that the Galaxy A33, with its 159.7 mm in length, the A33 is slightly longer than the A53, whose screen diagonal is also slightly larger.

Regarding IP67 certification, I really appreciate that Samsung gives this sentence each time or pays for this price. Certifications are definitely an important factor in the purchasing decision and those who complain about too expensive Samsung models should keep this in mind! Xiaomi and others often spare these costs, even for their flagships!

Maybe some of you will be disturbed by the absence of headphone jack. Personally, I only use wireless headphones for years, but at least I wanted to point out.

Screen: Samsung convinces as usual

The screen here is also the favorite discipline of Samsung. Full-HD+resolution, AMOLED technology and 90 Hz refresh rate, it is a convincing set for this price category.

I loved

  • The superb Amoled screen with bright colors
  • The refresh rate of 90 Hz

I did not like

Die Obere Hälfte des Galaxy-A33-Displays Mit Blick Auf Die Notch

Once again, we applaud Samsung for its beautiful screen. Admittedly, unlike the Galaxy A53, the refresh rate is not 120 Hz, but in this price category, the 90 Hz are also very good. This refresh rate is unfortunately not adaptive, but you can switch to 60 Hz. What should be known about the screen? That it measures 6.4 inches and that the FHD+ slab is focusing on Super Amoled technology. I do not find the notch in the shape of a very beautiful, I would have preferred a punch in the screen.

The screen convinces by its bright and brilliant colors and its high contrast. As often in Samsung, the colors are quite saturated, which may not please some anyway, me, I like it! The fingerprint sensor located in the lower part of the screen reacts quickly and reliably.

Performances and OS

Exynos 1280 is doing pretty well on a daily basis. But Samsung’s 5G SOC loses speed when the tasks to be performed become more intensive.

I loved

  • Completely acceptable performance
  • 5G compatibility
  • Software support

I did not like

  • The demanding games are jerky.

In his Galaxy A53 test, my colleague Rubens also looked at the new Exynos 1280 which also equips the A33. Unlike him, I had difficulty playing human impact. I noticed a clear overheating (but not disturbing). And even with low graphic settings, the game is still relatively jerky. High graphic settings make the game look like a foloscope.

But other than that, the exynos 1280 is a “correct” SoC, with which average users should not encounter any daily difficulties. Applications start quickly and operate without problem. But I would not recommend the Galaxy A33 to gamers. You can see it in the table below: the performance of the exynos 1280 of the Galaxy A33 are very close to those of the Exynos 1280 of the A53.

In the updated table below, I listed the performance of the A33 of last year as well as those measured today. You will also find the results of the benchmarks of the Galaxy A34 (test) of the Galaxy A53.

While the 3dmark Wild Life test has hardly changed, the Geekbench 6 test experienced a significant increase. But this can also be due to the new version (Geekbench 6 instead of 5), which is supposed to assess a little differently and more precisely.

In any case, using the Galaxy A33, I did not notice any sensitive improvements that could have been made by the OS.

BLICK AUF Die Kamerainsel of the Galaxy A33

As usual, you have to look closely at what is hidden behind the sensors, especially for affordable smartphones. The camera is worse than that of the Galaxy A53. It is a completely exciting fact because the two smartphones are sold at very similar prices on certain shops. The Ultra Grand Angle camera allows you to take photos usable by day, but there are slight color differences with the main camera. Overall, the ultra -wide angle photos seem a little paler.

Added to this is a 5 MP camera for macros photos and a 2 mp depth sensor. Do not expect miracles from the macro sensor. Finally, there is a 13 PM selfie camera at the front. In general, the configuration of the camera on paper is exactly the same as that of the predecessor, if we disregard the optical stabilization of the image of the image. It also means that there is only a digital zoom again. X2’s zoom is accepted but I strongly advise against zoom x10.
