The spectrum of Rolls-Royce announced in 2022 is the first electric model of the prestigious brand which is equipped with a power of 585 horsepower and a maximum couple of 900 Nm, allowing it to shoot down 0 to 100 km/ H in 4.5 km/h. Note the significant weight (2975 kg). It should be able to benefit from an autonomy of 520 km according to the WLTP cycle and a maximum charging power of 195 kW.

Learn more about the Rolls-Royce Specter

In the very elitist universe of prestigious manufacturers, there are few who have taken the footsteps of the 100 % electric car. In reality, Rolls-Royce is the first. Bentley only presented only a concept car that should lead to a standard car by 2025, while other manufacturers, whose orientation is as luxurious as they are sporty, like Aston Martin for example, struggle to launch their first hybrid model.

The most ostentatious of electric cars ?

Rolls-Royce therefore presents its first 100 % electric series model, and as you can see via the photos available, Style complies with the brand.

Some will undoubtedly notice a little family air with the new BMW i7, and this is normal, since Rolls-Royce has gone under the fold of the BMW group since 1998, and the two models share some elements in common even if Rolls-Royce refuses to mention it.

The spectrum does not break with the spirit of the brand, although its grille is wider than ever and now lit by 22 LEDs. At the end of the hood, there is a Spirit of Ecstasy optimized aerodynamically, even if we are not sure that it changes much.

That said, the spectrum is the most aerodynamic model in the history of the brand with A CX of 0.25. The car is 5.45 meters long, 2.08 meters wide and 1.56 meters high. Its wheelbase is 3.21 meters.

A disappointing autonomy

If there is one thing that will not change compared to a thermal model at Rolls-Royce, it is the noise. The models animated by powerful V12 used to make no noise, and this feeling will be similar in the spectrum with the absence of combustion engine.

Instead, we find an electric engine that develops the trifle of 430 kWh, about 585 hp. The 0 to 100 km/h is announced in 4.5 seconds. The truck couple of 900 nm will surely not be too much to move the pachydermal mass of the machine.

Indeed, a thermal rolls is not necessarily light basic, but this electric version beats all records with Almost three tonnes on the scale (2,975 kg empty very exactly), especially thanks to the battery pack which alone weighs 700 kilos.

The brand has not announced the capacity of the battery, but it must undoubtedly be high. Nevertheless, a rapid calculation makes it possible to imagine a capacity of approximately 100 kWh.

Indeed, Rolls-Royce communicates on an autonomy of 520 km Under the WLTP cycle, with a mixed consumption announced (being approved) at 21.5 kWh/100 km. On the other hand, according to the EPA cycle, more severe than WLTP because approaching reality, autonomy falls at 418 km. In any case, this data is quite disappointing for a car with such a battery. A Mercedes EQS claims, for example, more than 700 km, depending on the versions, with a battery of 107.8 kWh.

But with three tonnes on the Rolls balance, it was not necessary to expect miracles. Maximum charging power is announced at 195 kW. The spectrum is based on the aluminum platform “Architecture of Luxury”, a platform that does not date from yesterday since it was inaugurated in 2003. The battery is partly integrated into the structure itself which allows a rigidification of 30 %.

A stratospheric price

This ultra-luxury electric coupe, which replaces the aging Phantom Coupé impresses with its cabin. Like the external aspect, the interior evolves slightly compared to thermal rolls. The spectrum is obviously more technological, with in particular the arrival of a digital instrumentation system. A few physical commands have however been kept to avoid switching to the whole touch.

The Rolls-Royce Specter must arrive on the market in the fourth quarter of 2023 and its price should start around 340,000 euros since the brand announces a price located “Between a cull and a phantom”. With a few options, the price should easily exceed 500,000 euros.

The Rolls-Royce Spectrum is the first 100% electric model of the brand. It announces a range of more than 500 km thanks to its 102 kWh battery.

Design and dimensions of the Rolls-Royce Specter

The spectrum is a two -door and four -seater coupe which extends over an impressive length of 5.45 meters, with a width of 2.08 meters and a height of 1.55 meters. Although this height may seem high for a coupe, the spectrum holds the record for the most aerodynamic car ever made by the manufacturer, displaying a drag coefficient of only 0.25.

Although the spectrum retains the characteristic silhouette of a rolls, it brings a touch of freshness and modernity to the traditional design of the brand. The grip, the widest ever installed on a Rolls, is notable, but it remains of a reasonable height. The light signature is distinctive, made up of a thin strip in height, adding modern elegance. Also at the rear, the spectrum does not hesitate to innovate with a contemporary light signature, reflecting a daring approach to design.

Rolls-Royce Specter battery and autonomy

The spectrum is equipped with a large 102 kWh battery which allows, according to the WLTP standard, a maximum autonomy of 520 km. The luxurious coupe accepts a fast load (DC) of 195 kW, which results in a load of 10 to 80% in 34 minutes. In terms of consumption, Rolls-Royce communicates on 22.3 kWh / 100 km on average in mixed cycle.

Motorization and performance

The first electric Rolls-Royce claims a power of 430 kW (585 hp) and 900 Nm of torque, which allows the 2,975 kg of the car to shoot down 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 sec, for a maximum cruising speed fixed at 250 km/h.

Marketing

The basic price of the new spectrum starts from 340,000 euros, the first deliveries of the model are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023.
