Renault draws a line on its minivans. The space has finished its mutation by becoming a real SUV for its sixth generation and the new scenic does the same, a few weeks after the disappearance of the scenic and great scenic of previous generation of the Renault catalog.
The scenic therefore returns in the guise of an SUV for its fifth generation, but it is far from being its only novelty. Thus, while the space offers a hybrid engine, the scenic goes directly to the 100 % electric. Unlike the Megane, the previous generation of which is currently still present in the catalog, the scenic will not know any transitional period and the petrol and diesel versions are therefore abandoned.
The minivan turns into SUV
Two years after the presentation of the megane e-tech, it was at the Munich Motor Show that Renault lifts the veil on the Scenic E-Tech, which targets families. He adopts a new front side with a calendre with diamond patterns that blend into the body, as on the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. We recognize here the paste of Gilles Vidal, the new Director of Renault design, which previously officiated at Peugeot. We also notice new rear lights, very different from the bright headband of the Megane.
The horizontal hood is no doubt, the new scenic is a SUV and no longer a minivan, although it is not as high as some other representatives of the category. Renault, however, avoids qualifying his bodywork, ensuring that he always resumes the DNA of the scenic peceudent and does not betray the acronym of the model SAFETY CONCEPT EMBODIED IN A NEW INNOVATIVE CAR (a safety concept embodied by a new innovative car).

Thanks to the use of the platform dedicated to CMF-EV electric, the E-Tech scenic has a flat floor and a very good habitability/congestion ratio after Renault. Its length reaches 4.47 m, against 4.41 m for the previous model and 4.63 m for the old Grand Scenic, which was available in seven -seater version and for which no replacement seems planned for the moment.
If the glass surfaces are clearly more limited than on the old scenic, Renault offers an opacifying glass roof called Solarbay as an option, as we find on much more prestigious models. The “Ingenius” rear armrest also received special work and incorporates a support for smartphones and tablets. These two equipment is included in the new Heaut -de -range of Renault, the Rafale.
The interior presentation looks like two drops of water to that of the Megane, whose scenic also takes up the very good Openr Link infotainment system based on Android Automotive. Some materials are recycled and no animal leather is used.
The old scenic offered between 506 and 637 l of trunk volume, thanks to its sliding bench. This equipment unfortunately does not appear in the catalog of the new model, the loading volume of which still reaches 545 L.
Over 620 km of high -end autonomy
We do not yet know the complete technical sheet of the new Scénic e-tech, but Renault announces at the top of the range an 87 kWh battery version, like the Nissan Ariya, and with the 160 kW engine (220 hp). Thus equipped, it would display a mixed WLTP autonomy of more than 620 km. It is more than the megane e-tech, which is satisfied at the top of the range of a 60 kWh battery for a ray of action of 470 km at most.
Always assembled in Douai (Hauts-de-France), the new scenic will be marketed from the beginning of 2024. Its prices are not yet communicated. His closest rival will undoubtedly be the Kia Niro EV, although the biggest Tesla Model Y, with very competitive prices, could also shade him.

The Renault Scénic becomes an electric SUV. The model even offers a large 87 kWh battery which finally allows decent autonomy.
Design and dimensions of the RENAULT Electric Scénic
The scenic adopts the CMF-EV platform, initially introduced by Renault for the electric mega. We could consider the scenic as an XL version of the Megane, which Renault classifies as a compact, although it measures modestly 4.21 meters. The scenic, meanwhile, measures 4.47 meters. It benefits from a prolonged wheelbase of 10 centimeters compared to the Megane, reaching 2.78 meters.
RENAULT Electric Scenic engine and performance
The new scenic is offered with two motorization levels (Synchronous engine with 8 -magnetic pole rotor) from 125 kW (170 hp) and 160 kW (220 hp). The smallest engine is associated with the small battery (standard autonomy) and allows you to make 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 sec for a maximum speed limited to 150 km/h. The biggest engine is associated with the big battery (large autonomy) and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 sec with a Vmax of 170 km/h.
A peculiarity of this model is the regulatory sound which it emits below 30 km/h to alert pedestrians of its approach; This sound was designed by the famous musician Jean-Michel Jarre.
Battery and autonomy of the electrical scenic renault
The 125 kW engine is coupled with a 60 kWh battery, offering a mixed 420 km mixed cycle cycle. The major innovation for the diamond brand lies in the 87 kWh battery associated with the 220 hp engine. Thanks to this, Renault announces an impressive autonomy of 610 km.
Regarding recharging, the vehicle is equipped with a 22 kW integrated charger. For quick continuous recharge, the maximum power reaches 130 kW with the 60 kWh battery, and 150 kW with that of 87 kWh. Renault claims to have optimized the load curve to offer a prolonged load tray. A heat pump is standard. In addition, pallets located near the steering wheel offer the possibility of selecting from four regenerative braking levels.
Marketing and prices
The new generation electric scenic will be manufactured in France, in Douai, while the engines will be assembled in Cléon. Its marketing is scheduled for the beginning of 2024. For the moment, Renault has not announced a price.
