What is the best fiber network in France ?

Several factors are taken into account. In 2022, the ARCEP customer satisfaction observatory, which focused on a survey carried out at the end of 2021 indicates that the main concern encountered by users on fixed networks concerns the quality of service. One in two subscribers said they encountered a problem with his FAI. The raised concerns most often concern disconnects due to broken fibers and an insufficient number of sockets in optical connections (PBO) or mutualization point (PM).

These disconnections concern all operators. And waiting time for repair can extend over several weeks. Subscribers also encounter underwriting and connection problems, concern or invoicing concerns. And to a lesser extent of the problems of fraud and unwanted calls, although not fully attributable to operators.

In general, Orange and Free were the operators best rated by subscribers on a representative sample of 4,000 French residents. The two operators obtained a note of 7.8 out of 10 respectively. Bouygues Telecom arrives in 3rd position with a satisfaction note of 7.3. SFR is last with a note of 6.9 out of 10.

Ftth, fttb, fttla, what is the difference ?

You have surely seen all these acronyms when it comes to fiber optics. Optical fiber is a type of connection based on the transmission of light rather than a digital or analog signal. Therefore, it is much faster than previous technologies, and does not lose intensity over a large distance offering a connection not only faster, but also more stable.

However, all fiber connections are not equal. Here are the different possible connections:

• Ftth, fiber to the home : the optical fiber is directly connected to your home and goes to your box, giving the best possible speed since the whole chain is included.
• Fttb, fiber to the building : optical fiber is connected to your building, but the apartments within it are then connected in copper. Thus, the data is slowed down by the last meters to go through the home, offering a lesser flow.
• Fttla, fiber to the last amplifier : Optical fiber is connected to the nearest stud in your neighborhood, before arriving at your building or copper house. It is it that is commonly called the “false” fiber, since a large part of the data transits in truth on a coaxial cable being far from providing the same speed as fiber optics.

It is therefore better to favor FTTH fiber, not only to have the best speeds, but also be sure to have the technology that will suit you over. We will not recommend the FTTB and FTTLA only in case only the ADSL is otherwise offered to you.
