New Renault Arkana: SUV-Coupé, the best of both worlds
In Europe, Renault is the first general manufacturer to offer a coupé SUV. Dynamic, the design of New Arkana mixes the pleasant visual attributes of the universe of SUVs (200 mm ground clearance, a belt high box, wheel passage protections, front and rear skis) and that of coupes (line of fleeting roof and moderate height of 1.58 m). It displays a length of 4.57 m and a wheelbase of 2.72 m.
In R version.S. Line, new Arkana is recognizable by its specific Orange Valencia shade, its double exhaust outlet of chrome appearance, its front and rear skiing and its F1 blade of dark metallic color color. Inside, the R finish.S. Line is notably identifiable by a mixed leather-suedine upholstery, aluminum pedals, a speed lever of the “e-shifter” type (without mechanical cable) and R badges.S. Line.
Arkana’s interior is high-tech. The dashboard is adorned with two screens: the 10.2 -inch dashboard color screen and the 9.3 -inch central touch screen. On the connectivity side, the equipment includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility, recharging smartphones induction at the central console and four USB sockets (2 at the front and 2 at the rear).
Despite its cut appearance, new Arkana is indeed a family vehicle. The occupants of the rear seats enjoy a knee space of 211 mm and a height under flag of 862 mm substantial for such a design. The trunk, generous with its 513 liters (480 liters in hybrid e-tech version) and easy to access, allows you to load all luggage for the holidays without worry.
Economic hybrid motorization
The 145 hp hybrid e-tech engine is made up of a 4-cylinder petrol 1 heat engine 1.6 of 94 hp and two electric motors-an “e-engine” (36 kW) and a high voltage starter of the HSG (High-Voltage Starter Generator) 15 kW 15 kW. The engines are capable of operating independently or in concert by directing their energy towards the wheels or the battery. The driver has nothing to do: the e-tech system automatically manages the 15 operating combinations between the different engines and the reports on the gearbox. In use, changes in modes are almost imperceptible. In town, battery recharging at deceleration and braking is optimized.
Thanks to the benefits of this hybrid e-tech motorization, new Renault Arkana circulates up to 80 % of time in town in 100 % electric mode, for a reduction in consumption up to 40 % compared to a traditional thermal engine. On the road, electric motors assisting the heat engine in need of power. Fuel consumption is therefore limited, even in sport mode. Behind the wheel of Renault Arkana E-Tech Hybrid 145
The driver benefits from a great softness of use because starting is always done in 100 % electric mode. The front axle is precise and the damping efficient. Arkana therefore offers dynamic behavior, without being athletic, while pampering its occupants. Thanks to the multi-sense settings it is possible to adapt the engine mapping, the steering assistance, the light atmosphere and the configuration of the digital screen which replaces the counters. Three modes are available, including a fully customizable.
Driving is facilitated by latest generation technologies, including the motorway and traffic assistant that combines the adaptive cruise control (with stop & go) and the centering assistance function. It is almost autonomous driving and it brings security and serenity for example in traffic jams.
Laurent Hongon’s opinion
Laurent Hurgon has been a Alpine Cars pilot-essayeur since 2004. Specialist in ground links and the development of sports vehicles, emeritus pilot, he is the author of numerous records including that of the fastest tour of the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring behind the wheel of the Megane R.S. Trophy-R allowing the latter to once again delight the title of the fastest standard traction “.
Thanks to its hybrid engine and its efficient chassis, Arkana shows its great versatility of use. Comfortable and habitable, it is a real family car with attractive design. At ease in town and on the road, thanks to its e-tech motorization that is both economical and dynamic, this Renault Arkana would suit the greatest number including families. I had a lot of fun at the wheel .
