Philips 55Oled807 – OLED SUR TV, Philips test 55Oled807: our full opinion on this TV

Philips 55Oled807 test: Excellent TV, perfectly equipped for a “cinema” image and gaming

He benefits from the sixth generation of the Philips P5 AI processor for the processing of images, taking care in particular of the scaling of non -UHD content. As on the OLED937 series, this function is extremely effective offering a very high level of details for programs, films and series that are not suitable for the best definition. The SOC also supports the brightness sensor installed on the front of the screen. This allows you to adapt that of the screen according to the room lighting conditions (ocular protection function). As on all OLED TVs, the viewing angles are very wide. However, they remain less extensive than the vision angles offered by the Sony A95K and Samsung S95B models using a QD-LED panel manufactured by Samsung Display Unlike White-Oled slabs offered by LG Display for all other models currently available on the market whose market this one.

Philips’ OLED807 series succeeds the OLED806 series from last year. It is equipped with an OLED slab which returns extremely deep blacks, several home cinema -oriented image modes, with an ability to display sequences with an ultra HD definition and benefits from the integration of the latest generation processor for Optimization of the display.

She ultimately has little to envy the highest-end models if it is perhaps her more complete audio system if we do not forget her skills for video games with the presence of several HDMI 2 entries.1 Supporting the latest optimization technologies for PCs and consoles, all sublimated by the Ambilight system, here present on the 4 sides. Available in 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches, we were able to test the 55 inch model of this 4K TV.

Philips 55Oled807 Design: a very fine foot which allows you to rotate the screen

The Philips OLED807 series offers a design that is based on a large place made to the image, but also on a chrome foot which presents itself as a large bar which perfectly maintains the screen a few centimeters from the furniture on which it is placed.

This chrome bar which does not support that the fingers are placed on it at the risk of leaving fingerprints measures 57 cm in width. Count on a depth of 24 cm with a part that exceeds 9 cm before. This configuration makes it delicate the installation of a soundbar. Indeed, it must therefore be placed in front, 9 cm from the screen, which ultimately requires a piece of furniture deep enough to support the bar and the TV. The screen is raised by about 7 cm which leaves enough to do for a potential soundbar. It should not be too high at the risk of not being able to rotate the screen as we understand it. Indeed, Philips here proposes to rotate the screen of approximately 30 degrees to the left or to the right to face a viewer who would be slightly aside. This is a very good thing and too rare are the televisions that offer this type of configuration apart from Panasonic, for the most high -end summer models at Loewe also.

Regarding an OLED slab, the TV has a finesse always as impressive because only 4 mm at the finest part. The thickest measures 7 cm, at the base of the screen. On the front, count on a black border which frames the image 5 mm thick to which must be added 2 mm of frame to finalize the whole. The model loaned by the brand to carry out this test suffered from no manufacturing defects and presented perfect finishes.

One of the corners with a nice finish.

Like many televisions, the speakers are integrated into the thickness of the screen and directed to the floor. There are also two passive radiators framing a woofer, behind the TV, in a perfectly central position. From back, we actually notice the part that contains electronics, but also LEDs for the Ambilight system, here available on the four sides for greater immersion in the image. At the bottom, in the center, a plastic element comes to clip behind the screen at the level of the foot to concentrate the cables and organize their flight.

In the thickness of the electronic part, in terms of connectors, there is a path that allows wires to find the center. This part can be hidden by a plastic plate delivered with the TV for a perfect organization. However, we found that the system was not robust enough to keep some poorly flexible cables and also point out a pico, used to maintain the plate, which is poorly placed, because just below one of the HDMI sockets among the most useful. This obliges to seriously seam the cable to follow the race provided by the manufacturer. In our case, the plate failed to keep the cables inside having it irretrievably drop.

If you prefer to hang the television, it can completely be fixed to a wall support using a model at the VESA300X300 standard.

Philips 55Oled807 Connectors and Ambilight

Connectors are once again divided into two poles. On the 55 inch version, the HDMI 1 socket can be delicate to use especially if the cable connector is thick and the wire can flexible since there is a plastic cache fixing stud just below. For the rest, there is an Ethernet port, a satellite entrance, a TNT antenna entrance, two HDMI 2 sockets.1 including an EARC compatible, a digital optical audio output and a USB-A socket. Oriented towards the side, there are two other HDMI 2 sockets.0b Arc compatible, two USB-A sockets, a headphone output and a location for PCMCIA cards.

On the 4 HDMI 2 inputs.1, only two of them support ultra HD signals at 120 frames per second. These are also compatible with VRR and ALLM technologies for, respectively, limit image tears and reduce the late display time to minimum. We can also count on compatibility with the Freesync Premium standards for Xbox/PS5 and G-Sync consoles for game computers. The TV is Wi-Fi (802.11 AC) and also supports Bluetooth.

The Android TV TV, it is compatible with the Chromecast function, but also offers Alexa Alexa from Amazon with a nearby speaker located nearby. Like the other brand televisions, it is compatible with DTS Play-Fi technology allowing you to use television to play music, the same as the other speakers present in the house or a different title, via a function multiroom. Thanks to this functionality, two surround satellite speakers can be interfaced thus reinforcing audio.

The configuration with DTS Play-Fi

Associate other pregnant with the TV

A word on the screen marking which can happen on certain OLED televisions. To overcome this, Philips offers regular maintenance of the slab: the anti-burning system, when it is on standby. Otherwise, the TV automatically triggers an eye -standing image after 2 minutes of inactivity. For comparison, in LG, the principle is identical, but with a period of only 1 or 2 minutes, depending on the version, before the monitoring of the watch screen. At Panasonic, you have to wait 5 minutes to see the watch screen trigger. At the same time, the integrated processor is able to detect the logo display in the image and locally reduce the light intensity to protect the slab and limit the risk of marking.

Ambilight, once lit, impossible to do without it

The 55Oled807 TV offers the Ambilight system on the 4 sides. This function makes it possible to display colors perfectly synchronized according to the content present in the image. This technology is still as effective and allows you to be really immersed in the graphic environment offered by television. With a TV ideally placed 10 cm from the wall, the interface can adapt to different colors of it. It is possible to synchronize the colors with the image, with the sound, to freeze the color or to make the colors of the national flag with the contours of television. If the TV is placed in a room, you can launch the ambiwakeup function to wake up thanks to the simulation of the dawn or use the ambisleep function simulating a sunset to fall asleep. The Ambilight system can be activated or deactivated at leisure but, for us, once on, impossible to part with it.

Light like a flag

Small bonus, when the television is turned off, the system maintains a white color behind the screen for a few seconds, just to find its way in the darkness of the living room or the bedside table to put the remote control. Compared to the previous generation, the Ambilight system is more precise, because it benefits from three independent LEDs for each point of light improve the accuracy of the proposed colors. If you have Philips Hue bulbs, the system can synchronize with them for a completely immersive colorful atmosphere in the room.

Philips 55led807 Image: magnificent sequences, but less bright than the upper series

The Philips 55Oled807 TV is equipped with a WHITE-OLED 10 BITS 100/120 HZ panel capable of displaying an ultra HD definition (3840 × 2160 pixels) provided by LG DISPLAY.

As on the previous series and on the OLED937 models, the compensation of the movements offered here is of a very high level. The scrolls are really perfect and do not suffer from any lack of persistence. The image seems extremely natural. The contrast can be considered infinite here offering perfect blacks in dark scenes and no blooming effect is to be deplored here which represents a significant force of the OLED slabs compared to the LCD slabs. We particularly realize this when viewing the night scenes of the documentary The earth: the night, Broadcast on Netflix where the moon appears very bright without any artifact and with perfect contours.

On the series The Lord of the Rings: the rings of power Broadcast on Prime Video, as on the OLED937 series, the image is extremely realistic and natural. We are entitled to perfectly fluid movements sometimes giving the impression of being as close as possible to the actors.

The very high level of contrast

The very high level of contrast.

Very beautiful mixture of clear and dark tones

Very beautiful mixture of clear and dark tones.

Good black management

Good black management.

When watching our stallion film, Gemini man In ultra HD quality with an 80 Mbit/s video flow, we found that the movements are also perfect with an impression of disconcerting realism. Colorimetry is flamboyant especially during the chase in the streets of Cartagena in Colombia where the colors of the houses are particularly. HDR management is excellent. The very bright explosions sometimes, in this film, are perfectly reproduced with extreme precision and satisfactory brightness while maintaining deep blacks. The OLED937 series, however, offers greater brightness. The bitter is extreme with a very high level of detail.

The Philips 55Oled807 TV offers several image modes. At Samsung, the number of modes has seriously been reduced, avoiding users to get lost, which is not the case with Philips. Indeed, you can choose between preferential, Crystal Clear, Home Cinema, Eco, Filmmaker, Game, Monitor, Expert 1, Expert 2 and Calman.

As on the OLED937 series, the home cinema mode corresponds to an image processing orchestrated by the processor which makes it possible to obtain a better definition than the other modes reinforcing the Pique as well as the details of the image. We can therefore seriously restore the broadcast of the House of Dragon Series On OCS which is unfortunately only proposed in HD quality and which would have largely deserved the possibility of an ultra HD viewing … The concern is that this mode tends not to properly reproduce certain details of the image , especially at the contours of objects or characters. The rendering can be very satisfactory on relatively slow sequences, but when the movements are faster, the processing of the image accuses some dropouts and cannot follow completely.

However, it is the Filmmaker mode that allows you to obtain the best results in terms of image rendering immediately at the outlet of the cardboard. Indeed, in filmmaker mode, we were able to measure an average delta e of 2.79, which is less than 3, threshold under which the human eye can no longer make the difference between the color displayed and that which is requested. The most demanding will be able to adjust a few parameters in the menus to obtain an even more faithful result. The gamma was noted at 2.16 with interesting follow -up throughout the gray scale curve with however a tendency to want to clear up the images that should not. The value of 2.16 is a little low against the 2.4 expected for viewing in dark conditions. The average color temperature has been measured at 6214 k which corresponds to slightly redest images than what they should be since the ideal value is 6500 k.

With HDR content, the available image modes are: Personal HDR, HDR Crystal Clear, Home Cinema HDR, HDR Filmmaker, HDR IMAX, HDR game and HDR monitor. There too, it is the FilmMaker mode that allows you to obtain the best results. Regarding color fidelity, we can consider that they are faithful since we have measured a means delta of 1.82, that is significantly below the threshold of 3. The brightness peak in filmmaker mode was noted at 691 cd/m². This is lower than the value we were able to measure on the Philips 65led937 TV and this is one of the main differences between the two slabs.

It is as much less than the brightest OLED TVs that cap at around 1000 cd/m², depending on the model. This television is therefore to be put in a room where the light is as low as possible to be able to take full advantage of the LCD TV which offer a much more important brightness, but are, except exceptions, imprints of blooming effects, halo luminous Around clear objects on dark areas. Finally, concerning the colorimetric spaces, we noted a coverage of 97.70 % for the REC709, 98.70 % for the DCI-P3 and 73.60 % for the BT2020 which is rather satisfactory although these figures are located In the low range of results for OLED TVs, the best in this field being the Sony A95K and Samsung S95B reaching 89 % for the BT2020 and 99 % for the DCI-P3.

Philips 55led807 Gaming: Low input Lag and all optimization technologies on board

With this television, Philips hopes to seduce players and perhaps even the most demanding. Already, blacks are impressive compared to those offered on LCD slabs which is a good point. Then there is a game mode that allows you to activate the AllM function to reduce the late display time. Indeed, this is particularly short since we have measured it at 14.3 ms which represents less of a delay image between the moment when the player presses the button of the controller and the action takes place at the screen, which is excellent. The latest ranges of OLED LG TV can descend up to 9.5 ms as well as the Samsung QN95B which offers a 9.8 ms input lag, for example. TCL 55C635 has a delay in displaying only 9.3 ms, as on the high-end model Panasonic TX-65LZ2000.

For all useful purposes, we must not forget to “unlock” the HDMI inputs in the parameters so that they can deliver all their potential in terms of functionalities (colorimetry and allm). We noted an average delta e of 4.03 in game mode which is higher than the threshold of 3, meaning a colorimetry which is not exactly faithful. We have seen much worse with scores greater than 7 (Samsung Qn95b), but we have also seen much better, especially on the latest TCL C735 or C835 series, for example, which offer average delta e less than 2.
