On the road either, this lioness has not aged. Once it is not customary, it is even more fun to drive than its descendant, thanks to an even more direct direction and a less locked rear axle, giving it a player character that is no longer found in current city dwellers. All without forgetting a certain sense of comfort.

Peugeot 208 1: Five reasons to melt on occasion
First model with I-Cockpit at Peugeot from 2012, the 208 “1” will remain, whether we like it or not, except in the Large Lion family. After having led a very good career until 2019, here it is now represented on occasion. If this little lioness is in your viewfinder, do not hesitate, because the reasons for choosing it remain numerous. Here are five.
1.Prices that have become very attractive
Withdrawn editing channels from Poissy (Yvelines) and Trnava (Slovakia) in September 2019, the first generation 208 saw its damn coast on occasion. We do not recommend the first models around € 3,500 because they are often busy cars that have traveled more than 200,000 km. This mileage is not unacceptable but it is no longer a risk -free purchase. What’s more, these fleet cars are diesel, not very recommendable by time running. For a petrol model of less than 100,000 km, prices start under € 7,000, which remains an acceptable budget for a versatile city dweller in the caliber of the 208. At less than 10,000 €, the choice remains large and you will find shoe at your foot, including with fairly powerful petrol engine.
2.Services always in the blow
The look is a matter of taste but it must be recognized that this 208 has not aged too much. The second generation is so different that it has not got out of its elder. Inside, the small steering wheel and the raised meters, magical ingredients of the “i-cocpkit” potion, always make recipes. The multimedia screen, which did not shine with its responsiveness, seems a little dated, but the ergonomics – which is still played with real buttons – is no less good than in the current generation.
On the road either, this lioness has not aged. Once it is not customary, it is even more fun to drive than its descendant, thanks to an even more direct direction and a less locked rear axle, giving it a player character that is no longer found in current city dwellers. All without forgetting a certain sense of comfort.
The height of irony, the first 208 is more habitable than the news when it is still shorter of 10 cm (3.96 m). The difference is made mainly at the back, with a width on the shoulders and the upper elbows, making the journey more pleasant.
3.Overall satisfactory reliability
The seeds have not spared it, but the first 208 reports a satisfactory mechanical reliability. Very represented on occasion even if it is not the cheapest, the 1.2 PureTech 110 has experienced serious distribution problems, going as far as breakages. But a massive reminder in early 2021 logically had to correct the concern. Just make sure the model you choose has made a detour to a Peugeot workshop. We must also ensure overconsumption of oil from the engines 1.6 THP. Diesels, for their part, not knowing too much of a problem out of the eg EGR valves during too urban use.
The elements to be monitored outside the mechanics
- Electronics: whims of tactile interface and GPS. Electrical windows. Failing.
- Aerodynamic noises: between 130 and 150 km/h or trimming on bumpy roads.
- ABS/ESP: Reminder in July 2012 (hydraulic block on 697 ex.)). Handbrake sometimes badly calibrated.
- Hood: Reminder (safety hook).
- Gearbox: sometimes catchy and/or hard. Casses before 2018.
- Coque: non-compliance with the engine cradle welding on 331 models of 2013. Replacement.
- Clutch: skating on 1.0 VTI of 2012 and 1.4 HDI until May 2013. Quick wear on all models.
- Rolling trains: Reminder in 2014 for control and possible replacement of the Susp triangles fixing screws. in 2013. Clock of AV shock absorbers and arched pivots. Wear (very) premature shock absorbers.
- AR lights: diodes can make the soul quickly.
4.A choice of various engines
While only two engines – 1.2 PureTech and 1.5 BlueHDI – make up the catalog of the current 208, its elder offered a wide choice. The 3 atmospheric (1.0 or 1.2) are to flee, because their modest power (68 or 82 hp) makes use on tedious highway. After which you are free to turn to the excellent but rough Puretech 110 (3-cylinder 1.2 turbo) or 4-cylinder 1.6 atmospheric 120 hp with appreciable sweetness. More removed driving enthusiasts will have to choose between the THP 155/165 already transforming the 208 into a discreet bomber or, at the top of the range, the GTI variant and its 200/208 hp. Let us emphasize the “collector’s” character of the latter, which is none other than Peugeot’s last “GTI” city car since the current generation will never be entitled.
We must not forget the diesel, in particular the 1.6, whose power varied between 75 and 120 hp depending on the vintages. We advise you, if you can, the 100, 115 or 120 hp versions, with very good performances and with a very measured appetite. 1.4 hdi, fairly represented on occasion, is not recommendable because it is lacking in power to get out of the city.
5.No traffic restrictions
Years are passing and the problem of the Crit’Air sticker grows for used purchasing. If the table of classifications has not yet changed, the big metropolises are gradually banishing the oldest macaroons, without worrying too much about motorists that cannot change cars. One thing is certain, this 208 “1” is not yet in the viewfinder of the authorities. Marketed from March 2012, it benefits from the “1” sticker as long as it turns to petrol and “2” for diesel versions. For total serenity, we obviously recommend a petrol model, because diesel will for example be prohibited in Paris from 2024…
Peugeot 208 II Used: our opinion, from 13,000 euros
This second generation of Peugeot 208 is one of the best small versatile markets on the market. Which version to choose ? Is it reliable ? Our guide.
Zapping Auto Moto Peugeot 2008 restyled vs Renault Captur: First static confrontation !
Launched in October 2019, this second and current generation of Peugeot 208 remains, with the Renault Clio, one of the two most broadcast models in France, and one of the most successful in the category of “small versatile”. She was elected European car of the year in 2020. It is therefore very logical that it finds itself in large numbers (several thousand offers, but only a few hundred in electric version) on the second -hand market where prices start from around € 13,000 in basic version (1.2 puretech 75 hp), of € 14,000 For a 1.2 PureTech 100 hp or a BlueHDI 100 hp diesel, from € 19,000 for a 130 hp purtech, the most powerful petrol version, and € 22,000 For an E-208, its most expensive electrical variation.
In addition to its versatility and compactness (4.05 m), this small 5-door appeals above all for its Modern and very personal design, typical of contemporary Peugeot, which is distinguished in particular by its protruding forms and elegant light signatures. She enjoys a behavior could not be more rigorous offering a particularly pleasant and precise road touch. His interior, characterized by its famous i-cockpit with its miniature steering wheel and its countertop block, which can be digital in 3D is also much appreciated. Just like its comfort, despite a relative firmness of damping, offset by excellent seats. Some users blame him for certain plastics and assemblies that are still quite any as well as a fairly sound diesel engine.
In terms of engines, the choice remains fairly limited with three blocks :: The small 3-cylinder 1.2 liter purtech, Available in version 75 hp basic, the most affordable but also the most sluggish, a more toned 100 hp, access to Eat 8 reports Automatic transmission efficient or finally the most powerful and expensive 130 hp, exclusively available in high finishes, with the car gearbox. An engine that remains very sober, between 5 and 6.5 liters per 100 km, depending on the version and driving. Only diesel, the small 1.5 liter BlueHDI 100 hp, combines honorable performance and camel consumption (between 4.5 and 5.0 liters per 100 km). Finally, the most expensive Electric version E -208 – delivering the equivalent of 100 kW (136 hp) in sport mode (109 hp in standard mode. ) – is acclaimed for its driving pleasure, its silence and its performance more than for its price, its consumption (between 14 and 23 kWh), its autonomy (from 140 to 240 maximum) and the touch of its brake pedal, hard to dose. Small meanness, the Type 2 charging cable is not delivered as standard.
In short, if no version is to be excluded, our preference goes to 1.2 PureTech 100 & 130 hp, associated with the auto box.
Reliability: 4/5
- Engine 1.2 PureTech : possible fragility of the distribution belt which, by fraying, obstructing lubrication, hence serious risks for the engine which, at the limit, can break (belt to be replaced);
- BlueHDI engine : possible deformation of the adblue tank that may block the aspiration of the liquid towards the exhaust.
- E-208 : rare problems of electrical traction, under warranty; converter breakdowns, making recharge impossible; Electric beam – whose ducts are in corn starch – nibbled by rodents !
- Braking : sometimes noisy at the back.
- Speed regulator that can disconnect.
- I-COCKPIT : opacification and tasks appearing on the glass block glass, to be replaced.
- Finishing : fairly fragile painting; Rossignols in the passenger compartment.
